Scottish icon ffs. Gutted for the laddie but he'll goo down in history as the only double Olympic champion
A shame it has to end this way. But an all time Legend of the game! Wish him all the best. Great Champion.
Not surprised to be honest.
He’s been an outstanding athlete and will go down as one of the greatest in Britain.
I hope he can make it to Wimbledon for a farewell.
Sad that its injury that's brought the curtain down on his career but what a career! In the age of Federer, Djoko and Nadal he did amazingly well.
Never really had any time for tennis but when he won Wimbledon and nearly forgot to hug his mum.

Great champion, nice guy, it's a shame, but he done superbly well to win during and era of great champions.
Tbh I'm glad he's retired because he was only going to do himself further permanent damage.
He's more than earned the right to put his feet up, although he must be devastated as you can tell the hunger to play is still there.
Hope he enjoys a long and happy retirement with his family
It's frustrating as fook when you still have the 'fitness'and desire to play, but an injury puts a stop to it.
I could've been a contender.
I felt like he probably had another couple of grand slam titles to win if it weren't for injuries. He will still go down as a legend.

Best days I eve had at Wimbers was when he came back from two sets down to win 3-2 in the quarters one year and when he won the thing.
Superb athlete and I’m sure there’ll be a national role for him in the sport. Along with all the well paid speaker and motivational talk events he’ll now be able to do.
Then there’s the book too.
I know that doesn’t in any way replace the actual taking part but he will still have a full career and life in his sport.
Made me cringe when he said " I can feel the bones crunching as i hit the ball"

I spoke about that yesterday.
Absolutely horrific.
really tough news. Guy is a legend. Him and his brother won that davis cup on their own pretty much.
With what he has already done though he surely goes down as one of britains best.
Even 1 wimbledon would have done that but add the, other 2 slams, olympics and davis cup and its remarkable.
another thing worth noting is the reaction in the Tennis world and wider sports world. Very highly regarded by athletes
No doubt the minority of haters will be loving this.
You know the ones.... the sad sacks that have achieved feck all themselves.

Amazing career and managed to turn the dislike people felt for him around after being set up by the press, he wanted England to losethats 99% of scots ffs
Amazing Olympics and first Wimbledon title
A retirement well earned
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well put
Gutted tbh
I got into watching Tennis because of him.
I always watched Wimbledon but the day this young Scottish boy got through to the second round before collapsing with cramp I was a fan. I loved his anger and desire to improve. It was a world away from the view I had of tennis players being all kind and gentlemanly at all times
I’m on holiday first two weeks of July so if he does play Wimbledon (which I doubt) then I’ll be unlikely to get to go watch
It was expected. It was just a matter of how much more he would put himself through before calling it a day. Being the person he is, he will need to find something else to really focus on, as playing tennis at a high level has been his whole life. I don't think punditry will satisfy him.
