Arnautavic, can understand it. Stay playing for West Ham in a good league but never win anything, and never be in a decent team. He probably won’t get a move to a club in the prem who can win things, so might as well earn a fortune in China.

I don’t blame him.

Go to China, earn about £100m in three years, you're set up for life.

Can 100% see why players, especially those with no connection to Europe would do it.

He was looking mustard at Inter, but injuries cost him place and eventually fell out of favour. Then ended up at Stoke, and even worse, West Ham...

He's a great player to be fair. He should be aiming higher than just surviving relegation every year.

Easy ride in China. Can pull up trees against weak sides and earn an absolute fortune.

Yup, he’s Austrian so it’s not like he plays for West Ham because he has a connection to them. He’s a mercenary, like 90% of the premier league. Mercenary’s go where the pay is best

Earn 5x as much for doing half as much. No brainer.

For what it's worth, a friend of mine met Arnautovic once. Apparently he's an absolute cυnt.

So if you took a job elsewhere because they offered you more money, are you a mercenary?

Or is this just life?

People seem to attach different values and expectations to footballers.

Why should a footballer, who is basically an employee, show any more loyalty to their employers than you or I ?

And who would forego £20m additional wages for the sake of loyalty?

Do you want Ozil out of your club. Would you like him and his massive wages off your books? If so, where's your loyalty, or is it a one way thing?

Great article . I agree most fans are not loyal to players and expectations are not realistic on them.

So, if you want a player out because he's not good enough, that's fine.

And if a player wants out because the club are not good enough, then he's a disloyal mercenary?

Or are you accepting that you have no loyalty to your players and are generally fickle in this respect?

WTF are you on about?

The premier league is as good as it is currently because it is full of foreign players with no connections with clubs who came for money. Sure some form a connection with clubs over years, but there’s next to no real passion from the majority of players for their clubs in the Prem.

That’s the price of quality. So to then expect loyalty as well is a nonsense.

Stop making up stuff, who did i call a disloyal mercenary?

I said 99% of players are mercenaries, which is probaly true. They are all in it to earn as much as they can and if a better offer comes along, most of them will take it. What's hard to understand about that?

Which makes us all mercenaries? or is it just life?

If someone offered me 3 times my wages for an easier job, i'd be off and my employers of 19 years & clients would probably understand.

Seems hard to band around the term mercenaries for footballers when their behaviour pretty much reflects that of the majority.

Yes, Arnautovic wants the "challenge of a new market and to win titles"

Nah! He wants the bucks. Don't blame him. But be man enough to admit it. This sort of BS is what will annoy fans more!

You called 99% of players mercenaries on a thread about loyalty.

Mercenary by definition implies no loyalty or allegiance to anyone but themselves in achieving their primary goal of making money.

get over it!
