Ravel Morrison
Saido Berahino

In both cases it's to do with their attitude rather than talent.

Because, quite simply, it is impossible at 16 years old to know whether a kid is going to become any more than an average professional.

There are countless examples of kids who looked like nailed-on world-beaters at academy level and went on to have very average careers.

Conversely, there are kids who looked very average at academy level who went on to have stellar careers.

That's just the nature of the beast.

Didn't get near to the hype surrounding him when he broke through.

Was expected to be a world beater. Became a very good PL striker.

Never got 30 goals in a season. Never scored 20 PL goals in a season.

Then those who were incredibly average as kids who went on to become superstars:

Didier Drogba
Ian Wright
Luca Toni
David Beckham
Di Natale
Miroslav Klose
N'Golo Kante

Apparently, even Zidane often looked distinctly average until his last season at Bordeaux. I think he was 24 or 25 when he joined Juve.

I thought Barnes would have been a great addition to our team when he was ripping it up at Derby.

Talent and desire was there but suffered badly with an assortment of injuries.

Mind in the same period I wouldn't have also minded signing Michael Kightly as a squad player when he was at Wolves. Old school winger. Another who had a hard time with injuries.
