Yeah it’s a red under current rules.
Whether you like the rules is a different argument.

No worse than Kompany last week
Refs a caaaant
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No it isn’t. The rules never seem to be applied evenly between the top teams and the lower sides though.
It's a red for sure but if had been onder of there's they'd have have been warned not to be naughty first
I think it was red but anyway there was no need for Boly to make such a challenge in that area of the pitch. Harmless situation no need to be diving in
What's Kompany got to do with it, he wasn't playing?
So refs are advised that in a follow through tackle it should be red if the foot is above the ankle and only yellow if it is bellow the ankle.
Boly's foot was definitely below the ankle.
PS. And please, no smart ass comments suggesting a foot would likely be found below the ankle in 100% of situations
Went to the local boozer to watch the game and my considered opinion is that Man City are a class above. The first goal was pure class but then they degenerated into play acting.
The red card wasn't and I sincerely hope that Wolves appeal it.
The penalty wasn't thanks to the serial diving little shat that is Raheem Sterling (I hope the fleas of a thousand camels infest his a hole for the rest of his life) and then we gift De Bruyne an own goal.
So as far as I'm concerned Man City won 1-0 which is a fantastic result for a newly promoted team playing away against one of the best teams in the world.
Also I have to say that they inflicted on us our heaviest defeat of the season.
But we only has 10 men and they had 12.
Anyway, whatever, for the remainder of this season I will be a Liverpool supporter!
Sorry Gem, but that was a straight red. You cannot jump with two feet into a tackle. he missed the ball and got the player. Probably Saiss to replace him on Saturday, as he plays there for Morocco.
Stop jabbering on Wolfe, and get the league table up

He tackled one footed and did get the ball. I think it might be Dendoncker at the back as he did well there tonight.
Other than that I agree with you.
It wasn't a red, Clattenburg has cleared that up, above the ankle red, below the ankle yellow. very clearly below the ankle.
Now was it a stupid challenge? Yes, it wasn't necessary to do what he did and you run the risk
I guess the question as to who drops into defence will hinge on whether we set up in a 3-4-1-2 or a 3-4-3.
The former and we will see Saiss and Dendoncker likely starting and both can play in defence so who does Nuno prefer there and who has more impact in midfield.

He gave the ref a decision to make with a tackle he didn’t need to make which was committed in a manner that the ref might deem as endangering an opponent.
The frustrating thing is had it been the other way round, the ref probably would have only issued a booking. There is a good still going round of Kompany’s challenge last week and Boly’s tonight side by side.

I’d go 3-4-3 personally.
Rui
Bennett Coady Dendoncker
Doherty Moutinho Neves Jonny
Traore Jiminez Jota
Could be anyone of Costa, Cav or Adama in that third role as all have struggled when starting. Gave it Traore though as I think he is at his best when in the right.

Every slow motion has shown Boly reaching the ball before any other contact. I shake my head reading rubbish like this from Witless - making me remember why I blocked him.
I hope we keep to the 352 now. We are better with Jota pushed up in support of Jiminez. And in midfield I hope we stick with Dendoncker who is more positive than Saiss and covers more ground. Saiss hasn’t really impressed in defence so far but this could be the first time he has had a chance on the left which is where he needs to be
How come Fernandiho assaults Jota, did not go for he ball, was no where near it, gets a yellow. Pundits say takes one for the team.
Wily clearly wins the ball, not even going through the player, who then stretches out a leg for the ball and gets caught.
Until refs treat all teams equally then it will never be a fair game.
Don't get me started about Sterling, who falls over as soon as he can.
I think there is an argument for saying Boly was unlucky as he played the ball and then caught the player on the follow through. But he was silly to dive in studs showing in a meaningless area of the pitch. He gave the ref a decision to make and it went against us.
After that it was a painful game to watch with City completely in control and us having only scraps of possession. Patricio saved a heavy defeat. A game to forget and move on
Dive in two footed and you're asking for trouble, yes he clearly got the ball, and it wasn't high, but it was a potentially dangerous tackle for me, he launched in from quite a distance. And totally unnecessary too.
Sterling on the other hand, goes looking for penalties. I would call it cheating, but pundit and referees seem to have legitimised his (and others) actions so I honestly dont know how rules are meant to be interpreted these days.
City play some mesmerising football, their passing is telepathic, much like Chelsea when they won the league two years ago, only better, I hope they go on and win it now. If you take away Salah, Van Dyke and possibly Milner, Liverpool look like also rans to me. City are a complete team.
Body wasn't unlucky at all. He knew what he was doing and got punished for it. He may well have got part of the ball, but to lunge in from a distance, both feet ff the ground and follow through the way he did, is dangerous.
Clattenberg can sugar coat it all he likes, but the ref on the night got it right. Very similar tackle that got Batth sent off a few years back.
I don't think Clattenburg did sugar coat it, he just explained what referees are told to do, above the ankle = red, below the ankle = yellow, it was below the ankle.
Not that easy to see in the speed of the moment perhaps and those tackles never look pretty when you throw yourself in though.
Just another example of using video to settle big decisions in a game
Just seen Callum Wilson priced at 75 million Madness!!!
Agree with your comments about Liverpool oldgold. Their first 11 is excellent and if they stay fit they could win the league. But it wouldn’t take many injuries to make them come up short and Salah and Van Dijk are so important to them. Man City meanwhile have over 20 top class players and can cope with injuries to anyone, as showed by how close they are to the top despite De Bruyne missing so many games. When you look at the ‘reserve’ team they sent out against Burton even that team would probably be champions league contenders
On balance I suppose, no disgrace to lose 3-0 with 10 men to one of the finest groups of players this country's ever seen. That's what I'm going to keep telling myself today anyway.
For me we need to concentrate on the winnable games, starting on Saturday. 7th place has to be the realistic aim now and a superb base to build from. Catching Man U and Arsenal looks beyond us but picking up points from the teams around and below us and finishing top of that mini league would be a very good first season back.
