MON to Nottingham Forest

Howe isn't going to leave Bournemouth unless it's for the top 6 or Everton.

Benitez would be a good shout but he's put in so much time at Newcastle feels like he's found a home and waiting for the club to be sold so he can give it a real crack.

The guy fresh in at Southampton might be worth keeping your eye on, they've had a good bounce and he done very well in Germany.

Brendan Rodgers will be looking for an exit soon i'd imagine so he could be a possibility and at least you'll be entertained while your defence falls apart.

Would have thought Daniel Farke at Norwich would be worth a look. Done a great job there this season. Same with Chris Wilder from Sheffield United.

It will be interesting to see how MON gets on at Forest. It's a big risk for him to take that job, and I'm struggling to wish him well!

I don't think we need to panic about Claude, I'd prefer to see how we get on over the next month or so. He's shown he's not completely rigid in his thinking and I like very much how he's willing to give our younger players an opportunity. Unless we have a catastrophic collapse I can see a review about his position in the summer.

As to potential replacements, that depends who may be available at the time, it would be depressing if it was just the usual suspects. We need to look wider like other clubs have done.

It's a big call to change the manager and the next appointment needs to be the right one; hopefully it won't be necessary for some considerable time which means Puel being successful!

Complete dinosaur more interested in listing his previous achievements and having personal vendettas with the local media.

I would go for Frank Lampard. An intelligent young manager with a future at the top level.

To be honest, at the moment the tea-lady could do as good a job as Puel. Three DMs against Southampton and love him or hate him, surely CheesyNacho should have come on at 0-2 to play up front with Vardy.

I am really concerned now that if Vardy has had enough of chasing shadows, he will want away. Replace him with another defensive midfielder and say goodbye to Premiership football.

Wouldnt want O Neill here, had his time.
Just want Top to put Puel and the fans out of their misery and get rid of the third worst manager we have had.
This whole sorry business is dragging the club and the fans down, it is far more important than Brexit !!!!

Third worst??? You haven’t been around very long then!!
Maybe turgid football but how many in the last 40 years have kept us in the top 10 of the top flight and how many have seen us relegated?

3rd worst?

Off the top of my head I can think that: Peter Taylor, David Pleat, Martin Allen, Ian Holloway, Craig Levein, Gary Megson and Paulo Sousa might have a good argument to be included there.

Interesting question Joby and one that raises some interesting feelings.

I think you’re right - MON is yesterday’s man now, and that’s exactly the manager I want us to avoid. Warnock, Allardyce, Hosgson, and don’t laugh but even mourinho would fall in to this bucket for me now.

Personally, I’d want to see a younger manager at the club who is a keen student of the modern game and wants to do a good job. There’s a balance though - I want one with experience so Gerrards and Lampards can go get their experience before applying.

So who is in this category of young experienced managers I’ve just made up? For me it’s Howe, but the question does remain whether he’s now too big for us. I would argue strongly that we offer just as much as Everton currently, but we can’t compete with the top 6.

If not then you look to the lower leagues or Europe. I’d love to see someone in who has had success in their division, and who’s ideals align to the foundations in place. Develop youth, but unlike Puel, maximise the current squad.

As for who that is, I don’t know. Hopefully the club have time to do more research than me!!

Thorney, I doubt if Claude's even 30th worst.

MON, NP, CR no thanks
Warnock and Allardyce – suitable metaphors fail me.

Doubt we'd tempt Howe away, which leaves Rafa as the most capable UK based option available.

Lampard, Farke and Wilder have all done well but not really proved themselves yet, so would be a big risk.

Agree that it's best to sound out a replacement first. I can't remember who (dunge?) suggested on another thread trying to bring someone in with a few games left before the end of the season so they can bed in a little before the summer and maybe some influence on any transfer activity.

I hope MON does well at Forest, but fear it may end in tears.
At least it will make 'dugout watch' entertaining...

Puel is currently sitting with his lowest win percentage of his career to date and has the second worst win rate of any permanent manager over the last 10 years. In fact, if you on managers who have had a season at least (or certainly more than 12 games in charge) his record is currently the worst in the last decade.

Based on his last calendar year and last 38 league fixtures, of permanent managers who have been in the job for a full season or least over half, he is either the 4th or 5th lowest for win ratio in the last 23ish years I believe.

Probably a bit of a false stat in some ways I guess and I think he has a way to go to be 3rd worst. Managers of that quality (or lack) simply don’t get as long these days to get that bad

Marcelo Bielsa. The only person I think we should be going all out for. Wanted him before he went to Leeds. Can’t believe he went to them.

The guy is the father of modern day football - quite literally. Poch studied under him, Pep loves him and he would suit Leicester to a Tee

Intense high energy pressing, controlling the space with a 3-3-3-1 formation (yes really) and very good on the ball. Unfortunately he might be clinically insane but it’s a risk I’d be prepared to take

Under no circumstances is Puel anywhere near 3rd worse. Think of all the rubbish managers we had in the decade outside of the PL, or in the 80's and pre O'Neill 90's. Also, comparing Puel to other managers this decade is grossly unfair when we won three league titles and spent half of that period outside of the PL, therefore at a much lower level. You can't compare oranges with apples.

What I want from the next manager is someone who will build on the good things that Puel has developed here - bringing through youngsters with a clear route to the first team, attacking full backs, better quality signings, a winning style of play against top teams - but who can improve on Puel's weaker aspects - not utilising the better players, random tactics and substitutions, not fully combining a passing game with our counter attacking strengths, a losing style of play against the weaker teams.

Is there a manager out there that fits this criteria? Maybe. Would they want to come to Leicester? I'm really not sure. We have ambitious owners, a decent infrastructure with huge improvements on the way and a good if not spectacular squad. But we are still a mid ranking club that has not built any kind of legacy after the title winning season and have fans who are rarely satisfied even when we're winning. I'm not sure any manager can achieve success at a club when nobody can agree on what success actually looks like.

If I had to narrow it down, I'd definitely be looking at Howe. Hughton would be a decent if unspectacular shout. Maybe Nuno from Wolves if the money dries up there. For outsiders, I'd have a look at Wilder and maybe Graham Potter at Swansea who has a good reputation.

Who wouldn't I want? Any old school Brit who's been around the managerial carousel. If we're going to move on from the Puel Project we need to do so in a progressive manner and not go backwards to the Mike Bassets of the world. Oh, and any managers currently struggling at the bottom of the Belgian second division, though thankfully I doubt we'd ever stoop to look at such amateurs....

Pearson without Walsh and Shakespeare is like MON without John Robertson. They aren’t the kind of managers that can do it on their own

Or Bungle without Zippy and George

David Wagner sacked. Hmmmmmm.

As incredible and brilliant a job Pearson did at our club, ranking as potentially our greatest ever manager, even most Pearson supporters would agree that his time here is over. Certainly as a full time manager anyway.

Wagner has left Huddersfield by mutual consent. It’s well known and has been reported several times that Jon Rudkin is a big Wagner fan and wanted him when Shakespeare was sacked.

Leicester were set to make an approach but Wagner indicated he wanted to stay at Huddersfield at the time

Rather keep Puel.

I saw a while ago that Warnock claimed he was offered the job at Leicester, not sure if it was post Ranieri or Shakey but that doesn't bode well for the kind of manager we'd look for.

Yes but in fairness you read the daily star...

Wasn't that years ago? Mandaric era and the fans protested about it so either Mandaric retracted the offer or Warnock turned it down?

posted on 14/1/19

Sounds like Wagner may have had enough of being manager for the time being. If that is right he's hardly likely to want to come to us at this time.

Is Wagner any better then Mr le our?
what has gone wrong at Huddersfield?
