The issue we will have with the likes of Fellaini and Lukaku are the inability to offload those wages onto a lesser club, and no club of equal stature will want them.

......................

It will come down to the player taking a wage cut or not playing football. I know exactly what the vast majority of players will do, and it does not involve sitting on the bench.

People really need to get rid of this notion that you cant move players on if they are on high wages.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You usually can move players on but when the player is heading for a lower salary, their agents usually ensure that the selling club at least meets them in the middle in terms of settlements. In this situation, the obstacle isn't just the player's willingness to move, but the financial implications of writing off a lot of the player's value as implied by their contract. It's why we so often get very poor transfer fees on players we no longer need. I suspect we'll get peanuts for Fellaini and Mata, not because they are worth nothing, but because they aren't worth substantially more than the gap between value of the current contract and their next contract. Lukaku may be in a different boat as he still has an impressive track record and is entering his prime years, but even then I'd be pleasantly surprised if we recouped our original fee.

Clear out is needed.

Lukaku, Fellaini, Valencia, Sanchez, Smalling, Jones and even Young can all be jettisoned for me.

..............

We will not recoup our original fee, quite simply because it was about 30-40 million more than what he was worth.

It’s funny because Lukaku is the fastest player we have -
**************************************

No robb, he's not the fastest. Neither is it funny to be honest.

He's this close to becoming the next Benteke.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He's probably the quickest in full flight but he's so big it takes him so long to get into full flight so it's almost irrelevant.

Finances aside I'd keep Mata and Lukaku if they are happy to be primarily used from the bench

Fellaini just get rid asap

Yep.

Young I would hang on to because he is experienced, dependable, fit, versatile and homegrown. Useful player to have in the squad.

If Lukaku is happy to rotate and will play from the bench, I would keep him as well, at least until we can acquire a player who is willing to do the same whilst (as close as is possible) offering the same kind of goal threat. We need a striker in the squad of quality, with experience and who offers the threat of a traditional nine.

Although where you get one of those cheaply, I do not know.

I`d keep Rojo. Injuries aside, i really like him. He`s got that little south american bar steward air about him - i`ll kick you full force and laugh at you, but catch my boot laces and i`ll go down like i`ve stood on a land mine!!

Young, ok experience i get that, but it depends who and what the Ole/next manager wants. Would he be satisfied on the bench and playing games here and there??

Too early to decide who to keep imo.

Some players look very different under different managers. A good new manager will give it a year to decide who he can work with before making wholesale changes.

I don`t know. Some players have been stealing a living since Fergie was in charge. Some should never have been signed to start with. They need to make way for better players

Rojo is a rubbish defender. He's got the worse trait of Smalling, Jones and Bailly.

Absolutely, there'll need to be some obvious changes... just not wholesale changes imo.

Depends on what the new manager wants. We`ve got some real dross in the squad.

Just got to see i guess

I guess, but I'm always keen to give players a chance under a new system.

As an example, look at the effect that Poch had on Danny Rose. He used to be a bit of a laughing stock to me.

Rubbish as in at the top level.

This ^

If the aim is to get back to being serious contenders these players need to be moved on regardless of who gets the job.

We have a lot of players who aren't up to it. Some are decent back ups but that's in. I'm giving Bailly and Lindelof a pass for now as they're kind of new and have shown glimpses of talant as well as being young. But the older players that have no place need to leave.

On defense, Valencia (age), Darmian (contract), Rojo, Jones and Smalling need shipping out over the next few Windows.

Midfield, Fellaini needs to go. Mata I would probably keep for another season. We either need to give Perreira some game time or let him go. Get in an upgrade for Matic (who can be kept as a he a specialist DM and we only have one of them). Get Herrera signed up.

Attack? If it weren't for his wages, I'd keep Sanchez. That and if he was happy to be a sub/rotation type player. Same goes for Lukaku, except its his fee as well. Need to sort out Martial's contract, too.

Welbeck’s out of contract in the summer.

Ole

That quote means the end of Lukaku, he's gone for me. Lingard walked off the pitch after 80 minutes dripping in sweat, Lukaku replaces him and starts heavy breathing after walking into position. He offered nothing to alleviate the pressure, the ball just bounced off him again. Get rid!
