Why doesn't Ace learn though? And is there a more annoying term than "banter" in the 21st century. Literally everyone hides behind it. Saw some people on it crying about freedom of speech. Read the rules. He was making light of domestic abuse and drink driving. Not unreasonable to think that someone reading it has been impacted in some way by either of those things. Then someone compared it to a stand up comedian. The difference is, if you want to go and watch a cretin like Frankie Boyle, you know what you're getting and you either go and or don't go. Your choice. You don't get that on a forum, especially one that has been created with specific rules in place which means that those kind of topics shouldn't really be "joked" about at all.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Frankie Boyle got a fare share of complaints and surely they are all people who havent seen him. Because the people paying to see Frankie surely wont complain about his jokes.

If you have been in a situation of domestic violence best is to unsubscribe from the news paper, do away the TV, shut off internet and never leave your bed again. Otherwise there is a great chance you might run into a comment here or there.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Not really the same is it...unless he media is advocating domestic violence and drink driving or making light of it, which is wouldn't do.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I wasnt talking about media, I was talking about running into people with an opinion which might be offensive.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yet you mentioned the newspaper and TV?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, there are opinions being shared in news papers and on TV, you know.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That don't promote domestic violence or drink driving. Sigh.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You are missing the point

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I think you are. My point is solely around Ace's views on here not being comparable to views that are aired in situations you have control in being in.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You can filter people here. Problem solved, you can control your environment here. This is the thing the modern "liberal" doesn't understand, or more likely does understand but does it anyway; it's not enough to block out things they don't like, the thing they don't like must be silenced to everyone else too. Well that shouldn't be your facking choice to make.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
"it's not enough to block out things they don't like, the thing they don't like must be silenced to everyone else too"

Neither side of the snowflake spectrum seem to see the hypocrisy in them saying this. If you see a child wanting to be gender neutral, you'd be the first to say that they are a boy or a girl. There are both right and left wing snowflakes, and you are both equally as offended.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Look at this centrist snowflake.

Rule #1:

JA606 has a zero tolerance policy toward offensive, abusive and threatening language. Witty debate is actively encouraged, but we will take a dim view of profanity filled slagging matches that will lead to the related content being removed.

Clearly Ace is trying to be funny, whether you find him funny or not, so would fall under the 'witty debate' part rather than the constant slagging matches, aka wumming which happens all the time and ruins articles.

Rules #13 and #14:

JA606 reserves the right to remove user generated content that is likely to disrupt, provoke, attack or offend others.
JA606 reserves the right to remove user generated content that is racist, obscene, sexist, homophobic, bigoted, sexually explicit, abusive, discriminatory, menacing, harassing or otherwise objectionable.

The question that needs to be answered is, is sexist content that is clearly a joke actually sexist?

When Frankie Boyle says something on prime time TV that is hugely offensive, is it actually ok because he's joking?

Most people are fine with Boyle, but some people complained to Ofcom about him. Most people are fine with Ace, but some people complain.

Also there's a lot of hypocrisy here. People complaining about Ace don't compain about themselves when they offensive things...things that are "likely to disrupt or provoke" others. On that measure I think most users should be banned.

I think culturally we have left much of this type of humour in the past. Some might see it as PC gone mad, but it is toxic to varying degrees. Jokes about, rape, murder, poofs or smacking women just aren't OK now. Gillette's horrendously crass advert yesterday makes it pretty clear. In reality there is a good chance at least s handful of posters have either been the victim of domestic violence or from a home with a history of it. To force them to lighten up or laugh it off snowflake is to overlook a horrendous reality for a lot of folk.

Ace makes some excellent contributions to the site and I've always asked him kindly to leave his 90s lads mag humour back where it belongs. If he could do that I'd happily have him on here and I'm sure most other posters would agree.

A lot of people don't seem to understand that freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom of consequences.

As much as I agree with your post admin, you haven't been consistent at all.

Stretty used to post some appalling stuff and he was only recently banned.

Matth has posted racist and homophobic videos that have stayed up.

They're just 2 examples. You have to be consistent with things like this.

Matth's conduct on YouTube is something that if offensive should be reported.

I think we have had 38,000 complaints and nearly 20,000,000 comments. I do not for one moment doubt I have been inconsistent hundreds of times, despite my best efforts. But at 6.40am to be awoken be a complaint, consider the grievance, read the comments around it, and objectively act on it, will result in variance some of the time. For that I'll hold my hands up

It's toss of a coin stuff, if I hadn't implored with Ace many many times via some lengthy time consuming emails, I might very have. I think "if memory serves" in the last email, i asked him to preview comments then consider any potential upset that may be caused and temper his words. Hardly being unreasonable given his history on the site.
