A Good Thing Frank is not Wilfully Blind

I like and admire Keogh for his attitude and have learned to accept his shortcomings. Bottom line is that he is an honest pro and a very decent, though not outstanding player. I noticed also last night that it was him helping his fellow "Irishman" Shane Long, not one of Long's own team mates when Long was injured.

Keogh put himself in the firing line by taking that penalty and fair play to him for that!

However, to counterbalance, Jermaine Jenas did express his surprise that we let Keogh take a penalty, so clearly his reputation goes further than just 666!

Like I said Peeder, Good thing Frank is not blind.

And Frank has much more at stake than Jermaine Jenas and knows him better

posted on 17/1/19

I suspect jenas' surprise was more that we were letting a central defender take the deciding penalty instead of a more attacking player.

I saw that quote as well ramdini. Frank said a lot more in terms of praising Keogh.

Harps ... you may well be right! I was surprised Waggie took one, he was shot to bits.

According to reports By local and Sporting media Ashley Cole will be joining us in the next 48 hours. I’m not sure about this one with him being 38🥴

Retired

HITC the source by any chance Wassa.

If true though, I've no problem with it, even at 38 he's still better than Lowe who has found his level as in the Scottish league.

Thank ferk for that. Yes a wing back will be signed of that I'm certain.

Cole would be great to have around the club. I'm sure he will only be a backup player, but in his pomp he was the best left back in the world, what a player to have to impart that knowledge onto the others, and I'm sure he could still do a job in the championship if needed.

posted on 17/1/19

Wassa, you are correct old pal. Lowe not the answer at all. Lampard knows that and has clearly seen enough to let him go back to Aberdeen.
Cole was the best player in that position I have ever seen. Who can't say that singing him can only be positive for Derby. Imagine what he could do for the club.

No complaints about Keogh’s penalty, although choosing to shove away Kelle Roos to milk the celebration for himself speaks more to his captaincy credentials than I ever could.

Maybe the comeback and subsequent shootout glory was in his plan all along and that’s why he channeled Claude Davis for the Saints’ opener and then went ten yards ahead of the defensive line for their second, in addition to his magnificent towering header to clear the danger from Southampton’s box from our cornerkick.

Or perhaps he’s just crap, and folks are going over the top because he managed to score from a penalty, as do the vast majority of competent footballers when called upon to take them.

The sooner summer comes and he signs for Forest, the better

Saints' opener was Wilson's fault - knocked off the ball too easily and fell down looking for a foul rather than try to win it back. The second was too easy for them - no pressure on the passer and Redmond wasn't watched closely enough. Neither goal had anything to do with Keogh of course.

Credit to both Lawrence and Keogh for the penalties - both have had a lot of criticism from fans and both would have had all sorts of abuse had they missed, so it would have been easy to hide away from it, especially Keogh as nobody really expects a centre-half to be one of the five penalty takers. I thought Keogh and Tomori played well defensively in both matches.

If you add on the penalties we have scored more goals in 4 games against Premier league clubs than Huddersfield have all season.

I really wasn't bothered about the result of this game until the idiots cancelled Bryson's perfectly good goal. Thought all the back 4 had a decent night, unlike the nightmare they had at Leeds, but that was only the two wing backs.

There was a lot of bull talked on here about leaders a few months ago. Well if volunteering to take the final penalty isn't showing leadership I don't know what is. A real "the buck stops here" gesture.

I'm not a Keogh fan at all, I've never know a central defender playing for any club drop so many major clangers over a season

Hats off to stepping up for a penalty though, it was brave and did show leadership, if he'd missed it and Derby would have gone out he would have had some serious flak

It was nice what Lampard said about Keogh. Any player would appreciate comments like that from his Manager.

It was also nice to see Keogh grab his 11th goal in 312 appearances for Derby.

666 If he is useless as you say - it is simply a matter of difference of opinion - 666 and Frank Lampard (and many other Rams supporters. So whose opinion carries more weight?

posted on 18/1/19

666's obviously. About 200kg more.

One thing worries me just a bit. Rumours of our signing Ashley Cole. I know once he was world-class. But, when he played for Chelsea at Derby couple of years ago in that FA Cup round he did very poorly, I thought.
I am 100% sure Frank knows better that I do BUT :- I can't deny my current opinion.

Agreed Ramdini re Cole, personally I'd rather get Nish back.

P.S. We miss Forsyth, he is a good left back and I hope all those fans who were so rude to him apologise.

They won't VC!

Forsyth always seems like a very pleasant chap, but is a player who hasn't improved at all since signing for us.

He is very "average".

I cant be ar5ed to slate him, but you I wouldn't rush him back either. Malone is far better, has more energy and thrust about his game.

Cole, if he signs, will just be back up. And probably good for younger players to learn from

Roy McFarland scored 44 in 434 appearances (just over 10% of games).

Captain Fantastic has scored in 3.5% of his games.

I do admit that the comparison is like that of a thoroughbred v's a donkey.

posted on 18/1/19

Richard Keogh is not as good as Roy McFarland was. Well hold the front page. Igor Stimac scored 3 goals in 84 games for Derby. That’s the same goals per game rate as Keogh. Go figure. We have had a gazillion defenders since Roy Mac who weren’t as good as Keogh, yet we choose to compare him to one of the best centre-halves who England has ever seen. Go figure. Peter Crouch was once compared unfavourably to Lionel Messi in terms of his stats for goals and assists. To his credit he Tweeted the facts, along with the line:”Peter Crouch in not as good as Lionel Messi shock news”.

Go figure.
