Does anyone know what happens to police or military dogs when they retire?

I'd imagine with all that trained aggression they might find it hard to re-home them

Thing about Westies, is that although they are quite small, they wont back down, or really show any fear toward much bigger dogs.
She has a habit when big dogs approach her, of laying down, chin on the ground, the owner of the other dog has a smug look on their face, like our dog is being submissive, (its really an invatation to play), then, when in range, she launches herself at said shocked big daft dog.
She's a proper fruitcake.

Sounds like she has a deathwidh.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Most dogs don't show real aggression, and look bemused/amused by her.
Wouldn't let her off her lead when there are other biggest dogs around.
She just wants to play all the time.
You only have to catch her eye at home, and she runs of for her ball.

I hate cats and I’ve always been allergic to dogs so in her wisdom the wife got the kids a Miniature Schnauzer “low allergy apparently”

I walk it, I feed it!

I think it’s a homosexual to.

I used to live near 2 gay guys that had french boxers, would walk by them with no acknowledgement for months, then we looked after my sis in laws toy yorkie (great wee guy, loads of personality) I took him for a walk, walked past the two gay guys " oh hiiii...good morning!"

I've a rescue dog, Paddy, and he's a cross between a Mastiff and German Shepherd (think there may be a Staffy in there somewhere too).

He's a great character and we wouldn't be without him even if he is a pain in the backside sometimes.

To be completely honest as well there's only a handful of people in my life that I'd be more upset to lose than him.

I think a lot of police handlers take them as pets.

Appreciate they have an element of aggression but they're so well trained that I doubt it's an issue.

The family Beagle just turned 19.

My dad wanted to get a new pet to celebrate the new millennium.

I used to live next to an old boy when I was a kid who would take his Siamese out on a lead.

Show Cocker. Black coat, 6 years old and still looks like a puppy. He is a really good looking dog too, looks like he should be the hero in a Disney film.

One of my favourite things about walking him is all the compliments he gets - the 'he's gourgeous' type ones. I always pretend they were for me and thank the person who said it. It really winds the missus up as she says it makes every dog walking social situation awkward.

Love that. Funny how dogs are a conversation starter for so many people.

It's also great how two strangers feel compelled to say hello if they both have a dog!
