P.S i will be speaking to RL about their negativity

posted on 4/2/19

Wow Nev, where to start!

I think you may have lost a few vey valid points in your rant, but I’ll tey and pick them out.

1. Toxic. Yep, it certainly is toxic. Who’s fault is this? The players, the fans, the owners, or the manager? Well, for me it’s the manager. It is he that has the job of uniting the players and team. He has lost the fans.

2. Booing. I’m with you, hence my article. This has come about due to point 1. Toxic. It’s not very nice down at the ground at the minute and the fans and team are breaking up. This is a horrible situation. The main feeling at the games currently? Apathy. Literally it was like a friendly yesterday. Fans couldn’t hardly be bothered to sing. So when a sub is made and the passions are stirred, they are negative. It’s sad, and I was disgusted by the treatment of Ghezzal. A man who has done nothing but try. Disgusting.

3. Vardy and players. Oh nev, why bring the foreign card in. Stupid. Let’s tey and ignore that (you really need to let your prejudice go). Vardy missed a couple of chances yesterday. Half chances. Probably through shock that he had a chance. But why aren’t fans on his back? Well, we all know what he’s capable of when you play to his strengths. He’s a top striker. Of course we won’t blame him. We really would be idiots then. What is a major concern though is whether Vardy’s relationship with puel is beyond repair. If it is, who do the owners back? They risk alienating 3-4 top players, but something needs to be done to evolve the team. We’re in a quandary.

So, in the main, I agree it’s now toxic and I think it’s complex as to what the cause is. However, like it or not, beleive its the right decision or not, the easiest way for the owners to change that is to change the manager.

I’m almost wanting us to back Puel after the reaction of fans yesterday, but sadly I think it’s the right thing to make the change in the summer.

I worry which players will follow him out the door.

It’s a mess.

When he fired it straight at De Gea from 4 yards out. Did you even watch the game?

Nev - it’s a sad situation. I’m starting to agree with you and Foxello about some of our fans, having argued vehemently in defence of them.

I honestly feel that it’s the fans who may very well have a hand in taking this club backwards if we aren’t careful. I didn’t believe they were booing Ghezzal yesterday but if they were then they are a bunch of self deluded spoilt children with an incorrect sense of entitlement.

I don’t agree with Mersey that Puel is responsible for the toxic atmosphere. We as fans have to take responsibility for our part in that - it’s too easy these days to look for someone else to blame

Yesterday’s performance was fine, we should have had a point. I think if we aren’t careful the yo-yo days will be back again

BS - I’m not saying the fans should behave that way and aren’t responsible.

I just beleive Puel has contributed to that situation and his own downfall. Ultimately he is responsible for perfrormances on the pitch.

He’s lost the majority of the fans now. A small minority can be classed as fans needing to take responsibility. A vast majority means you’ve done something majorly wrong. Intentionally or not. Puel has lost the fans. That’s his fault.

To be honest he’s not here to please the whims of a fan base who have become completely short termist and want to see us hoof the ball up to Vardy like the good old days.

He was brought in to oversee a transition to youth. So I think Puel has responsibility for the state of the fan base? Yes - but I would say the short term toxic expectations go beyond a small minority.

Puel probably isn’t the right man for us but many of the fans are kidding themselves by thinking all our problems will magically disappear once he’s gone. They are in effect placing all of the problems of the club at one mans door - they’ve always done that.

Puel can start by winning some bloody home games...

posted on 4/2/19

Is the football really that bad? Or what other reasons do the fans have for hating Puel so much?

It’s hard to understand from the outside that the manager gets so much stick when he’s blooding a young team that’s naturally going to be inconsistent. The fact you’ve achieved some pretty remarkable results against the top sides surely bodes we’ll for the future, unless they were the purest of flukes that is.

Ah if only some of the fans could understand that.......

It’s just depressing to be honest BS. You’re bang on with your last paragraph. A new manager won’t solve our problems.

However, he can hopefully galvanise the players and fans, and get the club feeling more positive again. Because right now, Nev has it spot on. It’s toxic.

And toxic only means relegation unless something is done.

Let’s be constructive. If we’re not to change the manager, what do we change?

What do we change? Well as fans we have to change the expectations and accept that we are going through what we did when Pearson took over from Sven. A rebuild is required - not from an unsuccessful side to a successful one this time but a rebuild from an aging successful side - which is much harder.

The recruitment also needs to change - and I believe it is. We need to stop spanking large amounts of money on unproven players like Slimani or players like Iheanacho who were bought simply because they are available.

The recruitment has to go back to where it was when Walsh was here - remember the young prospects snapped up at a young age? That’s where we need to get back to

I think the atmosphere we’re seeing at the moment comes from losing at home to teams like Cardiff and Southampton rather than being narrowly defeated to a resurgent Man Utd. That’s not to make it ok to boo Maddison being subbed for Ghezzal, of course. But more when people are saying “what do you expect”, the answer comes back “to not lose our last 3 home games to teams 17th, 18th and 6th in the table”.

I find myself in the slightly unusual situation of being in heated agreement with most of Nev's post.

I was appalled by the treatment of Ghezzal yesterday, absolutely shocking - and it wasn't a small number of fans either. Disgusting behaviour and quite remarkable that he managed a reasonable performance given that.

Yes we lost yesterday and there was yet another annoying early goal conceded, but it was a decent game, you can tell that Solskjaer was relieved to have three points with his post match interview. In the end it was down to a couple of top quality players (Pogba and De Gea) making the difference.

Claude has a serious issue, we do well against the better sides, indeed sufficiently so to be showing top six form, but are awful against 'lesser' teams. It's hardly surprising then that you get idiots on the media
who think that with a change of manager and a couple of new players we would be top six - I heard someone yesterday on Talk Sport express this view.

This problem, which hopefully Tielemans will help address, particularly manifests itself at home. The potential way out of Puel starting to lose the fans is relatively simple, we need to do better at home against these 'lesser' teams. Which is why yesterday was a free hit, as was last Wednesday and is next Sunday. Where we need to show real progress is against Palace and Brighton. At the moment it's like taking a bite of cake and grimacing, then having someone tell you 'what's the problem, the icing is delicious?' - indeed it is, but the cake itself is mouldy!

Tonight's moan in should be interesting.

But if you understand the transition we are having to make and that young players still developing will be inconsistent, you’re more likely to see this as a long term project. Some saw that when Pearson came to the club in 2011, others wanted him out straight away when we weren’t top 6.

I’m not saying anyone should be happy with losing to Cardiff and Southampton at home - but the fans are acting like petulant kids at the minute who aren’t getting the immeadiate success they feel entitled to.

I was part of this as well, but I’m coming around to the idea that we need to look at the bigger picture - which is building a team that is competing in 2-3 years time. It’s not going to transition immediately.

The recruitment recently has been good, but the model you quote BS has been found out every clubs looking to find a Marhez or Vardy. We need to spend big bucks not the slim and ian money to get the kind of proven striker we need and then would they come ?
Dung given the improvement and bringing in Barnes and the new guy lets see what happens the next time we play a lower team will it be the same.
The players will be nervous about conceding early doors and getting booed at home won't help though

Well said Nev.

The way our fans treated Ghezzal yesterday was appalling and unwarranted. I don't think he's a player who will ever be good enough for this level but he tries hard and shows flashes of quality. His free kick yesterday was almost perfect. People forget that Mahrez was anonymous for most of the 14/15 season before the Great Escape.

Unfortunately I am starting to think that the atmosphere at the KP is starting to have a negative effect on the team. How can it not? It's been pretty dire for a long time, probably since the slump at the end of last season and it has never really improved. Indeed, the only time we have seen any sort of togetherness or support amongst the fans was after Vichai's death. Since then, it's reverted to apathy.

Is that Puel's fault? Well, partly. It's clear that his tactics and team selection are not well received and his own mannerisms and lack of charisma might play a part in that. But that's no excuse for the fans acting like spoilt children, demanding instant success. We have a young squad, a young squad that will have their belief and confidence damaged if they are not supported by the fans. Puel has clearly been given the task of implementing youth into the team, something he has done and been successful at. Results have been lacklustre but there have been signs recently that we are starting to improve.

As for Radio Leicester, it feels to me like they are indulging in the negativity because they know that it's more entertaining than positivity. Understandable to a point, but when your local station is sticking the boot in at every occasion it can't be healthy for relations. Ian Stringer even had to interject at one point to argue in Puel's favour. I'd be interested to know their response, Nev, if you get one.

I was expecting an article like this from Nev this morning. Previously I might have commented that the fans were trying to boo Puel, that we have the right to call out the negative tactics or that Puel only has himself to blame for the way he sets up his team to play. However, apart from the obsession with calling out the imagined conspiracy against foreigners I think Nev is dead right today.

First of all the game itself seemed an odd time to make a point. Manchester United are a resurgent side and we mostly matched them for 90 minutes and they only won because of the gifted goal and a world class David De Gea save. Puel had kept faith with the side that drew with Liverpool and had resisted the temptation to tinker. The performance, all things considered, was not too bad and a win against this side should never be taken for granted – even at home.

The atmosphere, however, was like a library from start to finish. There was no attempt to get behind the team and a kind of passive acceptance of the inevitability of defeat after the early goal. If the manager and team had approached this game like the fans did then we’d all be livid.

I don’t think that Puel is the right manager for us, but we need to manage his exit carefully if it is going to happen. For me he’s doing everything right to lay some great foundations, but it’s just that I’m not sure he’s the right man to build the house. Things need to change: we need to be more consistent; we need to start games faster and stop conceding early goals; we need to be more progressive in our play and in possession. The fans reaction, however, has made me more certain than ever that we should give Puel every chance to try and sort this out. Unless we start flirting with relegation then he should be here until the summer at least. We should support him and the team until then as we are a part of enabling the progression that we all crave.

I actually thought we played well yesterday and definitely deserved a point, at least.

Apart from the goal, Kasper had very few saves to make and we created quite a few decent chances that we should really have scored at least one.

Maguire and Barnes stood out for me as our star men on the day but, Gray apart, no-one played badly.

I was mystified by the Maddison - Guezzal substation. no problem in bringing Guezzal on but he replaced the wrong player. Gray should have been hooked as he just wasn't influencing the game.

Overall I quite enjoyed the game and thought we played with more pace and verve than on some previous occasions, and was surprised when I heard the torrent of moans on the RL phone-in on the way home.

Why, oh why though do we always have to concede first? We must be setting some kind of PL record.

posted on 4/2/19

All getting very repetitive now, concede early, not take chances, play well but get nothing.
We are going nowhere fast under Puel, there is more frustration than toxicity,we have the resources to be doing so much better.
I fear for next season, if we finish this season badly, there is the inevitabilty of starting the next one badly.
That is why Puel should have gone after Newport, when our season was over.
There is certainly an air of unhappiness at our club, and it is a hundred days since tragedy struck,
but Puel is not helping himself with his paint dry football, and his strange selections.
He is not the man for the job,and the fans are showing their frustrations,

posted on 4/2/19

We could of won yesterday thorney we played well even after conceding we attacked against a team now unbeaten in ten and De Geas save and pogba's pass where the only difference we must of been watching a different game?

posted on 4/2/19

I made my point and was thanked for my feedback,Ian did feel he had a pop back at Pipes about the negativity towards Puel.
Lets see the position on the moanin tonight. The toxicity from the Puel out brigade has seen me being acused of ageeing with comments to chat up young boys to some used my real name yesterday as their twitter handle to hand out anti Puel abuse. this place is a garden of treanqulity compared poor old BS would last two minutes out there in the trenches.

It's not in or out Puels the manager he's not going to get sacked he has got us safe and bringing through young players Madd's got another lesson yesterday don't stand still posing after every pass don't slow the game down and if you are going to take free kicks don't hit it straight at the wall. The manager did not shake his hand because he was annoyed with him so what.
