Hmm, thought he stood out yesterday and other games such as pool away. I do like him but not for extortionate prices
I went to your game at the weekend with my father in law, I was impressed with Maguire. He reads the game very well and I do think he's getting better as well.
I think he's got another couple of years yet before he might reach the top level though.
He's not good enough to get you to where you want to Be, he turns like a bus and is too slow has next to no recovery pace.
Good centre back with the game in front of him but easily got at if there's any space in behind.

Alderweireld would be great for £25m, is that still a thing that can happen this coming summer? Should be all over that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes, and if I was Liverpool I would be all over that as well to partner VVD and to get rid of Lovren/Matip.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We won't go for a player of his age and ability. Gomez has shown he is a great partner for VVD. If we sell one of Matip or Lovren, we'll likely replace for similar age and cost.
Na Bailly isn’t overrated, nobody had a bad word to say about this guy for two seasons. He goes in two footed at the beginning of this season, gets sent off and all of a sudden he’s a mistake waiting to happen.
He literally had a single red card to his name in two years before now. He’s not world class but he is great. He contributed plenty of GREAT performances for us over the years.

Yeah, I can't see him playing in a side who press the ball and play a highline which I'm not sure United do but have heard they're pressing more, which usually goes hand in hand with a high line.
Very good player is Maguire
I’m not sure cb is a top priority. Be looking at tw and full backs, daliot or tfm might answer the righ back position, and I think we could improve on shaw. Who to be fair has been quite good this season, but is still limited going forward. A good RW and we’d be in good shape.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't think they are really, they're playing counter attack a fair bit too with a deep line, with moments of pressing within game. Exactly as Leicester do really.
Whether they'll keep doing that, I'm not sure. They have a front line that could play either (if they don't play Lukaku).
Maguire reeds the game well but like others said he is not suited to a high line. He is a good header and a passer of the ball.
Good player but would cost a fortune and would not be a huge improvement on what we have.
I’d certainly consider Toby for 25mill.
Skriniar and Koulibaly are being mentioned but have never watched either so don’t have an opinion.
De Ligt is a great talent but at 19 it’s probably too soon to expect him to fix our defence.
Maguire isn’t an improvement on what we already have.
Maguire is rubbish. I honestly cannot understand how people cannot see this

It’s because he’s an aerial threat so I suppose fans often go away from games thinking he’s dangerous... forgetting that his primary function is defence.

I've not come across a single person who agrees with you MUDD, seriously, professional or layman.
I don't think we have any idea how to rate Bailly yet, as he has yet to show us more than a hint of his potential.
I do think he will develop into a very good centre-back, but I read all of the experts here and apparently they all know what his finished product is, already.
Maguire isn't necessarily an improvement over Eric, we really don't know that yet, but for what he's valued at, I'd pass.

We've used different approaches under Solskjaer, melts.
We played with an unusually deep defensive line against Leicester (sensibly, and as most teams do), and we've sat more in other away fixtures, but equally we've used a pretty full on high press, particularly in our earlier games under Ole.
We’d be better off going for a more short term, established CB option (Alderweireld), allowing Lindelof, Bailly & Tuanzebe to develop. All are quite young in CB terms and Lindelof has shown good improvement.
Bailly needs a run in the team. His top level is very high - probably better than any of our other CBs, but he’s prone to major lapses in concentration and simply being erratic (and no, I’m not referring to possible red card incidents. Sometimes he just does strange things!).
That said, I don’t think we’ve seen Smalling under Solskjaer yet.
I like Maguire, but he’s not the right choice in my view.
Maguire would cost a bomb and right now isn't better than what we have.
We also have defenders who are quite young and have great potential to improve.
Rojo and then Jones could be sold with someone like Alderweireld and Axel coming into the squad. We then have a good balance of defenders in the squad. Or if Axel is loaned out for another season, keep Jones.
Maguire is still improving as a defender. He is a great threat at set pieces but we need a more established defender now to help bring out the best of the ones we have right now.
Are we all agreed that Alderweireld is a complete no-brainer if the release clause is as reported?
Is there anyone who doesn't think we should be all-in for him?
(I know Ed will be put off by the low release clause, but think what kind of signing bonus he'll be wanting to offer...)
And as CiC says, the following group would look pretty strong:
Alderweireld
Smalling
Lindelof
Bailly
Tuanzebe
