Fosu-Mensah - Loan hell

Management.

Management change too early killed any chance TFM had at Fulham. I'd bring him back and let him come off the bench for us. Though I think it's too late to do all of that now..?

He was okay at palace I thought. No more no less. Only watched about 10 games though

Been unlucky in that both clubs he's been on loan at changed managers relatively early as well.

On paper both were clubs that probably weren't expected to struggle and he'd get good game time. Change of managers (and the emergence of Wan-Bissaka last season) seems to have put a stop to that.

If he actively had a chance to end his "loan hell" but refused, i imagine any sympathy for him has gone, especially with Fulham fans.

I watched the highlights on the weekend in the hope of watching how he is getting on. But this is exactly what struck me!! He looked uninterested, and lacked energy and seemed to be meandering through the game without closing the opposition etc

Management obviously hasn’t helped. But if he decided against ending his loan, and has been putting in disinterested performances, then it’s hard to have much sympathy for him.

I’m unsure why he is persisted at RB. In his early appearances for you guys I thought he looked great in a midfield position. Aggressive, strong, quick, progressive passing. Maybe even as CB. Shoehorning the last 2-3 years of his career as RB is a bit strange

"My mate is a Fulham season tickets holder" ...

So he's the one , uh? God bless him

He played mainly cb at youth levels I believe. I think that will end up his best position.

Don't actually recall him playing in midfield for our first team tbh

His debut was at left back against arsenal... Played cb against Watford... The rest at right back bar late subs

I didn't know he or any other player had a choice in refusing to end a loan... Thought if the club decides to terminate it then that was it.

I would have thought the player has some say. I beliebe Pereira was against coming back last season and so was left on loan at Valencia - it was his choice, against Mourinho’s wishes, to go on loan in the first place.

I meant more the loaning club, if they wanted rid they could terminate when they wanted .

Valencia didn't and in the absence of a recall clause then its down to the player.

I suppose its down to whatever way the loan contract is worded

Calum Chambers is having the season of his career on loan at Fulham.

They've somehow managed to turn him into a decent defensive mid, and he's become a nailed-on starter for them.

I really hope the suits at Arsenal don't plan on cashing in on him at the end of the season.

That’s also what my mate says. That he was one of their worst players in defence. And he had no faith in him. But now he’s storming it in CM. And is very impressed. He does wonder if Chambers could possibly go back into defence with that confidence he’s gotten and get Cairney back in the centre of midfield again but otherwise he’s very pleased with how chambers is doing

Shugs, yep must come down to the wording. If Fulham were that desperate to bring someone else in on loan they would have just terminated the loan if they could.

Shows how a change of scenery plus a bit of confidence from the manager can bring out surprising qualities in a player.

He's even doing Cruyff turns and dribbling the ball past players in midfield.

Interesting that they don’t fancy Fosu-Mensah there but do Callum Chambers. There’s been so much talk from our fans over the years about him being ideal for a defensive midfield role yet nobody in professional football seems to have got the memo.

In both loans he started well, change of management happened and then the loan deal goes sour. I would think it might be prudent to give him a loan where he will get games and the team unlikely to change manager. Palace, I could understand. They changed manager and also had their own young player making waves there.

I think it would be good to integrate him into the squad next season or give him a loan to a German side. Some players aren't hits on loan, such as Kane, and it could do with a lot of factors. Claudio doesn't rate him and neither did Roy, so it's not like they'll spend time on him when they know he's going back.

Management at fault, for me.

A player needs to feel like there is some sort of plan for him and under Jose, what youth player would feel that way?

The only time I lose a little symapthy with younger players is when they continually sign contract extensions when they know they'll be farmed out on loan again - they'd be far better pursuing a career at a club more interested in their development.

Hopefully United have turned a corner in that regard and players no longer need to look elsewhere.
