What have formations to do with strikers scoring hat-tricks?

And not forgetting the mudheaps that pitches were in those days, heavier balls, less medical expertise for injuries etc

1 out of 5 points for the attempt at making a "pail" pun.

Although a part of me still thinks it was just the accidental result of a poor education

A lot I'd say. For example it's easier to score goals against two men defences than 4 and 5 men defences with defensive midfielders in front of them.

Aguero's record against Top6 teams is unrivalled.

Harry Kane is only 3 hat-tricks behind Aguero and five years younger. He will easily better anything Aguero does, if he stays in the Prem for the next half a dozen seasons.

Won't better his PL titles.

Sandy - I love our Harry, he clearly is one of our own, and long may continue to be so

But 2 points, the game in the 60s is completely different to the game today, far slower and more open where a class player like our Jimmy shone against mediocre defences.
Secondly Aguero is a top quality striker and for me a better finisher than our Harry. I know Harry's won golden boot a couple of years on the bounce and I've not bothered to compare stats like goals per min, games played, injuries etc
But for me Aguero is the better striker 👍🏻

I agree with your first point about it being easier to score as frequently as Greaves did back in the older days, but don't necessarily agree with your second. Kane is an excellent striker himself and a very capable finisher. I'm tempted to say that Aguero has the benefit of being in a better team.

That is a good point about Aguero playing on a better team. 👍

The game is only slower in parts, have you seen the way the modern defenders mobe the ball about across the back painfully slowly, just pass, pass, pass, that would have never been allowed back in the day, when tackling was allowed. And defending is not better these days, so many goals in the modern game are scored from set pieces, where defenders haven't a clue how to defend high balls into the box.

It is such a lazy analogy to say the game was slower years back, so it must have been easier to score goals. it wasn't.

Not disputing Aguero has scored more goals as it stands, my point being that Kane is six years younger and will in my opinion better anything Aguero has done. Kane has outscored Aguero last three seasons, and still may do this season. Let's see what Kane's record is when he is 30 the same age as Aguero is now.

Oh and a third point, would Aguero have been so effective on glue pot pitches, would he have been able to play with a heavier ball, would he have handled being scythed down very five minutes, or taken out with sliding tackles. The modern player has so many advantages over the players of yesteryear, that scoring goals today is a doddle to what it was say even 30 years back.

Aguero is outstanding and unbelievable, but I still wouldn’t swap him for our Harry not a chance. Harry Kane is still the best striker in the league for me. Obviously it’s a great debate and I wouldn’t turn my nose up at people saying Aguero, but I still think Kane is the best natural striker in Europe. Kane and Aguero though are most definitely the 2 standout strikers in the Prem.

Spurs fans would pick Kane
City fans would pick Aguero
Most neutrals would pick Aguero
Almost all pundits pick Aguero as the one they would not like to defend against.

I wouldn’t say most neutrals would pick Aguero. I think a lot would pick Kane actually.
