Yep. They are so easy to pass. In fact failing them is practically unpossible.

No, but they should be modified to reflect modern skills, such as typing rather than handwriting. That pupils need to hand-write is baffling given that most people are using mobile devices all the time these days.

So what is the need for studying when you are so good at thinking?Pointless and stupid suggestion to replace writing with typing.Education and writing is quite important and underappreciated skill. This will be a wrong move to scrap GCSEs.

I think when kids get to Year 9 the focus should be on numeracy, English Language, ICT and another subject (or two) of their choosing.

Numeracy would stay pretty much the same but have more focus on finance as opposed to mathematics. Young people learnng about how credit, mortages, student loans etc work.

ICT could look more at web development, coding, analytics, SEO etc

The two voluntary subjects would let young people choose something they are actually interested in and have some aptitude for. So someone interested in languages can sit the mandatory subjects, plus Spanish and French, that sort of thing.

You can have ongoing practical assignments throughout the acedemic year combined with presentations and an exam rather than building towards this huge, stress inducing crescendo at the end of the academic year.

Unless you can't even spell impossible, of course.

I think it was a Simpsons reference.

Ralph Wiggum: “Me fail English? That’s unpossible.”

IT should be compulsory at every level of education these days.

I also believe the basic processes of business should too. The amount of dimwits who don't understand what things like an invoice, purchase order, credit note etc are, is frankly embarrassing. I believe having a basic understanding of this stuff will allow for more people to start their own business.

Financial educations should be key too, knowing about life after school. Nobody teaches you this, or the ramifications of not being sensible with income when young.

Thing is in the future humans won’t be needed for many jobs! So that’s going to be a major societal issue
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Universal basic income seems to be a natural evolution in society. Allowing for humans to monetise things they actually enjoy doing, leaving us as humans actually feeling fulfilled and a sense of purpose.

Of course, the corporations will push against this where possible. There will become a breaking point when there aren't enough jobs to go round.

Yeah, like all these students doing Media Studies just to get a cheap degree ... and don't get me started on Sociology, the study of the bleeding obvious. It used to be called Flower Arranging a decade or 2 back.

They do seem outdated. Most of the skills actually required to function in the real world are either not included at all or kicked to the edge/not respected.

Plus many kids just don't learn or succeed that way, they can be highly intelligent yet completely stifled by education.

Isn’t that something parents should be doing?

Depends on whether they have that knowledge.

IMO, it's not fair on those who aren't brought up in that type of household to be limited by this sort of information.
