Marquis legend wilks.
Hope we are up for it
Wilks is suspended for the cup game so there is no reason for him not to start against Southend.
If he carries Saturdays form into this game he will cause them no end of problems.
Grant doesn’t like changing the team unless he has to so I don’t expect many changes to the starting line up.
He just might rest Copps so he is good for the Palace game though, with Sadlier starting in his place.
Meet the owners (iFolllow freeview) last week had a completely different flavour from all the others that I can remember.
Someone (fairly elderly, I suspect) asked why do not the stewards make people sit down in the South stand because it means people can’t see? Beyond a certain time in life standing up for 90 minutes becomes too much, but it seems that the policy is to allow it and according to one speaker the atmosphere, the noise the crowd makes, the singing, can only be generated if you stand up. Undoubtedly those who feel the need to point and gesture would be hampered by having to do so seated! The woman in charge of this aspect of the management seem to fear trouble if they asked people to sit down and was not impressed when reminded that at away games people who did not sit down were ejected. (I must say that not all the travelling fans I have encountered at away matches behave themselves and do not seem to suffer any consequences.)
However, the club’s attitude seems to mirror that if the police nowadays. If the overwhelming majority want to stand up when they should be in their seats, the club excuse themselves from confronting them, feeling that they do not want “trouble”. So never mind those who cannot see; they can sit somewhere else which is what I usually do at away games.
Apart from that, the emphasis was on exploring the effectiveness of sponsorship deals, which were a very fruitful source of income it seems, together with miscellaneous activities in and around the stadium all of which helps to subsidise the football, together with the money put in by the wealthier members of the Board. And for this reason, the money from the cup run would not be immediately put into the playing budget. On budgets, the Chairman said that Fergie left on amicable terms and there was something of a mystery as to why exactly, although he thought that his father’s illness was a factor; the (alleged lack of) playing budget was not a reason that he was aware of. The old managerial excuse of “no money” was not mentioned and it was rather comforting to feel that there was no need to even say that the club was content to work within its financial limitations; feeling continuously disadvantaged by a lack of money has been used as an excuse in the past and as in life, the mature approach is to make do with what you have got and not moan about being hard up.
One of the factors which worked in the favour of McCann’s appointment was his keen interest in developing players through the academy. He has continued his involvement playing a part tin the selection process of key staff and expressed his determination to bring on the young talent by providing playing opportunities in the first team. Many of the products have been on the first team bench and some have already featured as substitutes. I seem to remember Husband and Mandeville came through locally, but so far, the expenditure may still lack much of a dividend. You just wonder how much of the obvious talent remains after the top PL clubs have done their plundering.
Someone thought that there was an excess of aggression on the pitch and asked GMcC about it and he replied that he did not intend to do anything, but kind of implied that controlled, it was an essential component of his teams.
I have probably given more weight to the sitting down/standing problem, but there was not a great deal else; it was seemingly felt that we were heading for the play-offs, but when one questioner challenged McC on whether this was the limit of his ambition he asserted that automatic promotion was not ruled out. He thought, no, was confident that over 2 legs Rovers could beat all the other 3 teams in the play-off spots.
Hound, I dont think Wilks is suspended for the cup game. Something to do with amnesty after round 3.
From Liam Hoden.
I checked yesterday and I'm assured by various people at the club that there is a yellow card amnesty after the third round. So for suspension purposes Mallik is on one yellow and therefore can play on Sunday #drfc
Nookie, yes I heard that earlier today.
It has been discussed at some length on the vsc site and no one was aware until today that anyone picking up one yellow in rounds one two or three would have had it wiped from the record.
Butler got booked In Round one and Round three which is why he was suspended for the Oldham match.
I had read through the rules last week and they only mention that yellow cards would be wiped from the records on completion of Round six.
I guess that is so that anyone getting booked in a semi final wouldn’t be suspended for the final.
Great that Wilks can play because he has been in good form lately and his power and pace will give Palace plenty to think about.
With Smith cuptied we would have been a bit lightweight up front.
Well what can I say, had by usual 3.1 victory, Marquis first goal, forgot to press send
Anyway, the last 3 home games played on a Tuesday, we've won 3, scored 14, conceded 0.
So I'm going to change my usual forecast and go 4 nil, Marquis first goal, crowd around 7654,

I thought like Hound that GM might rest Copps and start Sadlier (or Smith), but an unchanged starting line-up.

If I were a cat I wouldn't be able to stop purring. What a performance. Take nothing away from Southend. They ran and harried and pumped loads of balls into the Rovers box, but our defence was superb. I recall Marko having to save one header in the first half. Ok, some passes went astray, but when they did everyone funnelled back behind the ball to win it back. Relentless. Southend must have felt as if they were playing a threshing machine. The first goal was from a pin-point Copps cross right onto Marquis's head. The second a piece of sheer cheek from the unplayable Wilks who not only nutmegged the defender, but his shot looked as if it also nutmegged the keeper on its way in. The piece de resistance was a sumptuous through ball from the tireless Crawford to Marquis who then squared it to bounce in off Kane's shin! Whitemen got the MoM. Glad I didn't have to do it as I simply wouldn't have been able to pick anyone out. Bring on Palace.
Of the half dozen or so games I have seen live, this was a near-complete performance with all those who started playing well. Kane forget the fancy stuff and was excellent and Wilks too remembered that there were another 9 outfield players that make up the team. Crawford played better than I have seen from him before, the defenders were all excellent and no one had a bad game.
I really cannot fault anyone.
Southend were not the greatest opposition; they were typically shaky at the back and it is a good job for them that Bishop was in goal. They need more space down the flanks to be properly effective, but Andrew and Lewis were right on top of them.
Lewis and Downing have slotted in really well at the back and Anderson is hugely impressive. You have to give credit to McCann in finding such players.
Altogether excellent.
Well done, Donaldo, on your predictions. I thought it a poor crowd considering our position even though it is a Tuesday night. However you were much closer than anyone.
We nearly scored many more, and with a better choice for the final pass or shot, it would have been many more. Marquis showed what was the best choice with his pass to Kane, whereas Wilks was a little lucky to score with his choice. Did Kane's goal remind you of Copps at Brentford - a first poor touch followed by a good recovery?
A competent and very professional performance by everyone. I thought Marquis had his best game for some time.
There were some weird officiating decisions. In the second half when the ball clearly went off the Southend player and the linesman, who was very near, gave a goal kick. The commentators on iFollow were speechless. The same linesman gave a Rovers player offside (can't remember who it was) who had broken clear on the far left side of the pitch and the linesman was yards behind the play. The ref gave Lewis a yellow for a relatively minor foul, and Southend went through the back of Marquis on two or three occasions, and only a foul was given.
Now to start dreaming of a quarter-final,,,
Ditto from me on the match reports above.
Plus it is worth mentioning two outstanding moments of skill.
The first one was by Whiteman.
During some close passing by our defenders, Anderson played a ball towards Ben who was suddenly being closed down by three defenders.
It looked as though he would be in trouble but with a swivel of his body he lost all three of them(without even touching the ball) and played a pass to one of ou4 boys on half way.
A truly wonderful piece of skill and awareness.
The second incident came in the second half and did involve touching the ball when Copps produced another of his ole moments and skipped passed three defenders in a really tight space and ran on to start yet another attack.
I can’t wait for Sunday now.
Great performance although I must admit the first 10 mins I thought It was going to be difficult.
Does the defence seem more settled with Marosi behind them?
Whiteman Mom .

Don’t know what was happening but I heard some lads singing get your bits out for the lads.
Hound they all ran off under in the bar areas at ft.
Dont know how you felt but I felt very uncomfortable with the Madline Mcann lyrics.
Just seen your comments, Hound, and I well remember those moments. When Anderson made that pass I was thinking "Are you crazy?" and thinking this was playing the team into trouble, but Ben was brilliant. I just hope we get promoted or it will be difficult to hold on to Ben. This was a great buy by Fergie.
That incident with Copps, and his jink and cross for the goal, made me frustrated that I won't be able to watch the game live on Sunday. I think Copps will really enjoy playing against an EPL team.
The lines are getting wobblier. Excel controls me rather than the other way round.
However after that piece of self-deprecation I am celebrating 10 bonus points for the Southend game. Mooli retains his lead nevertheless.
