Great player true gent and city legend.
Not treated as well as he deserved by the FA and establishment.
All the World cup winners should have been knighted for their achievements.
He wasnt the biggest of keepers , but one of the best of all time.True role model.

A sad day for English football. He was a leicester legend, and I’m sure all Stoke fans will consider him a legend too.

RIP to one of the best goalkeepers the game has seen.

The greatest of them all. There were no flaws in his game, unlike so many of today's breed. Positional sense, ability to deal with crosses, one on ones, shot stopping, leadership - he had it all. And all without the protection goalkeepers have had in recent times, no big wicket keeper's gloves - just a pair of green cotton gloves if it was wet. Peter Shilton owed much to learning from the master.
I met him once, at what was then called Euro Disney in Paris. He was there with his family. It was during the week following that 4-3 defeat to Wolves when we were 3-0 up at half time. He was as flabbergasted as the rest of us! A lovely man and what a role model.
RIP Gordon.

As i have said on here growing Sir Gordon was a freind of my dad and i used to go round their small house in Blaby, showed me how to get my body behind the ball and was a charming and kind man.
In later life despite his hips being beggared he kept his smile. A great dad moment fro me when he came up to me at the England at the KP and said Hello Graham the look on my sons face was priceless.
Good night God bless and keep saving them in heaven

We used to live near Gordon when I was a lad. He would always take the time to talk to us kids if we saw him in his front garden. I feel privileged to say I saw him play for Leicester.

Oh my...what a sad day this is.

Marvellous, marvellous tributes on the radio from Bob Wilson, Joe Corrigan, David Seaman, Neville Southall, Peter Shilton and Alan Mullery.

He had been ill for quite some time now, I was aware of this and felt he would sadly pass on sooner or later. Everything that needs to be said about this true legend will be mentioned today.

Stored away I have a photograph of Gordon Banks, pictured alongside David Gibson and taken by Neville Chadwick at Filbert Street in the mid-60’s. Underneath the caption reads something such as “Will we ever see their like again?” That just about sums it up.

Not my era, but I've seen the clips and heard the anecdotes that many others have.

He seems to be one of those players who wasn't only truly great, but was also universally liked as a man. To achieve that in life is something quite special and I'm sure this will provide comfort for those closest to him. RIP

Quote from Pele today...... " I scored over 1000 goals but nobody talks about them. They talk about the one I did not score against this Man!" Class act........

RIP Gordon a great keeper and never appeared anything other than a really nice man.

I wholeheartedly agree with all the tributes - Gordon had just joined the 'City from Chesterfield when I started going down to Filbert Street. He was a real gentleman and in my opinion the finest goalkeeper I ever saw. He wasn't at all flamboyant - just did his job with no fuss and made it all look so easy. Will be sadly missed but we treasure all the memories. He was well named by the journos "Banks of England" RIP

Downsouf, do you remember;

Aye, aye, aye, aye
Banks is better than Yashin
Gibson is better than Eusabio
and (insert opponents here) are in for a thrashin'

One perk of being an old git, is that at least I got to see him play. Old Warwick fox sums it up "greatest of them all'.

Very sad.

On a lighter note, there's a wonderful pic of him somewhere diving full length to catch a dog that had run onto the pitch.

The celestial onion bag will be a safer place.
