DPL FA Cup vs. Crystal Palace

Ive a feeling it will go to penalties. Ill go for 2-2 after extra time and then fingers crossed. Kane or Whiteman to score. Re the crowd. Whilst its sold out it wont be maximum capacity as there will be an exclusion zone between the home and away fans.

Nookie: As the tickets are sold out, my understanding is that the crowd number will be already known and anyone with suitable access could discover it. The element of prediction thus disappears.

Zaha has lost his appeal against his second match ban.

A frustrating weekend to come - no football to watch! No EPL games, and iFollow does not cover the FA Cup. I do no know of any company here that is licenced to carry the FA Cup this side of The Pond.
I had a dream last night that we won 3-0, but that is highly unlikely. Still, Mike Dean was the ref. when we beat Aston Villa 3-0 in the League Cup many moons ago. I think Donaldo is about right, but I'll dream on with a 2-1 win for the Rovers with Kane getting the first.
Out of interest, what is the capacity of the Keepmoat? Wikipedia still quotes the original 15,231. However, haven't seats been removed for the Big screen? - and as Nookie says, there will probably be a "no-go" zone. The record was against Leeds back in 2008 before any changes and 15,001 attended.

I see the Rovers website says 15,231 so that might be after the screen. I just read the bit in the Free Press that mentions our last Fifth Round appearance, 0-2 against the 'Spurs. I remember that game - at least what I could see at 11 years old! I was standing on the Popular Side with my Dad and could only see about half the pitch. I think the crowd was 30,000+.

This is the preview in The Guardian

7) Doncaster could be the perfect fodder for Benteke

Whisper it quietly but Christian Benteke might be ready to be good at football again. Nobody should be getting carried away given this is a striker who has not scored since Crystal Palace’s 5-0 victory over Leicester in late April, but the Belgian is back for Roy Hodgson’s side after recovering from a knee injury and, having started their last two games, shown glimpses of the talent that persuaded Liverpool to once spend £32.5m on him. A trip to Doncaster represents a chance for Benteke to further his return to form and score that long-awaited goal. It will not be easy against in-form opponents but Doncaster have the worst defence in League One’s top six – 39 goals conceded in 31 games – and that should also fuel Benteke with confidence for this fixture. SN

Annoying - so I'm going to go for 2-1 to Rovers. Copps / Marquis.

John Oster...Another really good player the fans disliked.
2 nil Marquis Whiteman.
If we can beat the ref who will be biased.

The crowd will obviously be 14000 and 26!

I reckon that ground capacity is going to be around 14500, allowing for segregation areas.

Micky, if you put a VPN on your computer you should be able to get BBC i player and watch the match.

Due to flu (not me) I have an over 60 spare ticket for the West Stand - free to a good home.

Is not the sound commentary available on iFollow Micky?

posted on 16/2/19

Yes, but the last time I listened to sound-only was, I think, when we beat Leeds at Wembley. I find it too frustrating.
Nookie, my Internet security system is supposed to feed all from a VPN, but BBC iPlayer still seems to be blocked. Maybe it is not the same as setting up an individual one.

We hardly ever get a good result when we have a good crowd so 4-0 crystal palace

posted on 17/2/19

Not strictly true Yorkshire Lad.
It used to be but since our return to the league we have had some very good results when we have had a good crowd.

Micky, if you can download The VPN master app you should be able to get a UK link.

Nice feature about Copps in the national press. Pity that in the print edition they graced it with a photo of Herbie Kane. Words fail me. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2019/02/16/james-coppinger-add-crystal-palace-fa-cup-scalp-long-list-memories/

Disappointing after a dominant first quarter for which the pundits gave us no credit, then from their first attack they scored the perfect goal. Nothing really went wrong for them, apart from the trailing arm which could have been a penalty.

We needed a bit of luck which did not come our way, but it was no disgrace.

May seemed overawed and once in and around their box, we seemed to lose the composure that got us there.

Ok i will be prepared to be shot at.
Not disgraced at all in fact very proud.
Maybe the players were a bit stage struck today.
Marosi not seen the fist goal replayed so dont know if should have done better
So 6
Blair for prob mom 8
Andrew 6.
Both centre backs 6
Kane 6+
Whiteman 7+
Crawford 4
26.....6+
Marquis 6....never saw the ball not his fault
May 2.
Frustrating late first half goal..
Another fracas in the south stand.
Not disgraced at all.
I think only 1 or 2 offsides during the game.
They had done their homework and closed down whiteman and marquis very quickly.

Just one observation.
Im not an expert but
and not talking about defensive ability but when butler and wright play centre backs to me they appear better at distributing the ball from the back so not having to feed the ball to whiteman on every occasion

Thank you, Roy Hodgson, for your kind words about our lads - a professional manager of the "old school". It was a little different from Fergie a week or so ago!
Thanks also for all your comments on the game - on to Scunny!

No real disagreement with anything written so far. Blair MoM for me.Palace were as good as they needed to be and we didn't get the rub of the green. We missed Wilks more than Palace missed Zaha. May runs himself ragged but his final ball is lacking and he often checks back instead of taking a shot or trying to get past a defender. I was also astounded when he lost a race to the ball with Kouyate, who simply motored past him. There was some neat passing but Kane, for example, is nowhere near as dominant as he was in the first third of the season. I would be surprised if fatigue isn't setting in. It isn't just that there isn't much rotation it's also that the constant pressing must be taking its toll. Nevertheless, it's been a great season and I have enjoyed every game, including this one.
