Chances are we'll see a player every generation at their levels, but I doubt we'll see 2 together again.

Maybe but in my time watching watching football I haven’t seen any other single player at their level.

It’ll take some doing for anyone to reach their level, they’ve been doing it for over a decade.

True. Their longevity is amazing. We’ve seen players like R9 and Ronaldinho get close to that level but for for a much shorter period of time.

Look at Madrid- the fools thought Bale and Benzema can replace him.

Yes I agree with that too but that’s not what this article is about.

Just spicing things up a bit, the tried and tired argument of who's better

In my opinion only injury's prevented Ronaldo De Lima from being in that bracket.

Ronaldo (R9) and Ronaldinho were brilliant footballers, definitely in the top bracket. Just didn't do it for as long a period of time.

Injuries and partying. I do not want to generalise, but the Brazilians love to party.

Don't worry lads we have Phil Foden the next world superstar gets the last 4 minutes in a league game when they're 7 nil up and guaranteed a start in important cup ties against the likes of Cheltenham Town

Yes, Mbappe and Joao Felix.

I wonder how highly Hazard/Neymar and others even like Dybala and Griezemann would be thought of if not for Ronaldo and Messi.

Suarez as well. Probably higher as they wouldn’t be compared to such ridiculous players. They will affect perception of attackers long after they are retired as well, in my opinion. Even though they won’t be playing players will still keep getting compared to them.

Mbappe May rely too much on pace to have the same longevity. Also needs to leave PSG to become one of the greats imo.

I wasn’t being that serious, to be honest. But the thing with Mbappe is that he doesn’t rely on pace, despite using it to his advantage. His composure and intelligence for a player his age is incredible. I could see Barca going for him to replace Messi in a few years.

Hopefully Mo Salah will join them next weekend.

The biggest shock when watching these two is if they have a poor game, could probably count on the fingers of one hand how many times I've seen them have a sheite game?

We're blessed to have had them over the last how many yearsπŸ‘πŸ‘

Mbappe’s trending to have a similar, if not greater, legacy.

He’s already got 1 World Cup and 3 WC KO goals at age 20. Messi & Ronaldo have zero career WC KO goals and obviously no trophy.

He’s bagged 14 CL goals (inc. 7 KO goals) at age 20 yrs and 2 mts. At the same age, Messi had 2 and Ronaldo had zero.

Maybe someone like Vinicius Jr could form a duopoly with him.

A lot of Barca fans rate Dembele over Mbappe, but Dembele won’t put up the numbers to justify comparisons with Messi or Ronaldo.

As if they are still putting up numbers like that, and are still ahead of their peers.

We take for granted just how good they have been.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

It wouldn’t effect Hazard or Dybala, but Neymar’s legacy would be much different already.

If it wasn’t for Messi and Ronaldo, Neymar Jr would be a 2-time World Player of the Year and be perceived as the greatest player of this era, and as good as Ronaldinho or even better.

I think consistency has been and is key to the success of messrs Ronaldo and Messi. To score so many goals season after season is a truly remarkable feat, and something unheard of in my lifetime certainly.

In addition, because they have done so despite not being archetypal number 9's, they have redefined both the striker and winger positions and dare I say it, it is now a requirement for a forward to be able to be fluid enough and have enough in your locker to play anywhere along the front line if you want to be considered amongst the very best attackers.

This is why for me Mbappe especially has such a high ceiling as when he is deployed in a wide position, it is not a case of 'square peg, round hole' as he still has the movement and intelligence to be as effective as he would be when playing through the middle.
