Police confiscate alcohol from supporters

For some category A games they don't even sell alcohol in the stadium before the game or at half time.
-----------------------------------------
So category A games in the UK, this includes all matches in Scotland since the 80s? There are also alcohol bans on trains to matches that there might be trouble at.

What I hated about this is that the police force essentially bragged about it on Twitter.

That backfired as everyone kicked off at them. Pathetic!!

It’s a criminal offence to drink on public transport and private transport on the way to or from a game and has been that way since the 80’s as has been said.

It’s also a criminal offence to be seen drinking out on the street.

Strange that nobody ever gets lifted at the rugby though

Because the minority of football fans are repitilian individuals, getting boozed up to have an excuse to shout vitriolic abuse to opposing fans, brushing it off as "banter" but it just causes a horrible atmosphere at some games.

Unfortunately the majority get punished for the actions of a minority...

They're too heavy. Fat farmers, posh priiicks and women. It is illegal and disrespectful to arrest a woman. Also it's all just banter at the rugby. Even if someone gets killed. That's all part of the banter.

How do they know you're on the way to the game?

It's not acceptable if you've got a ticket, but perfectly legal to drink on public transport if you're off for a fight outside the ground?

Were it that easy.

Transport police will ban the sale of alcohol on trains heading through to a game in Scotland especially if it’s us or Rangers away.

Police stay on the trains to enforce that.

There are some decent ones who’ll let you have a few on the return journey if everything has gone off without incident. We’re meant to be grateful.

Yet they let people drink on the last trains home on a Friday and Saturday night between Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Ridiculous behaviour from the police on this occasion but in general, you cannot blame anyone for banning alcohol at football.

For some reason, many football fans feel that a football match is an opportunity to behave like a moronic hooligan, hurling abuse if not actually behaving violently. Until that changes, it's understandable to remove alcohol from the equation.

I was at Old Trafford the other week and someone was rustling a bag of crisps so I complained and they were quieter but could still hear the rustling. I don't know what happens to people like that when they go to the football they just exhibit monstrous behaviour that they wouldn't elsewhere.

It took less than 5 minutes for one of the 'Liverpool gang' to make a personal, off topic comment.

Ban alcohol at football.

But you knew that.
