Can’t believe Herrera fell out of favour, he’s an absolute warrior, a perfect Jose player.

Watching Lukaku though pi55ed me off. Sanchez should have started with his energy. Lukaku cannot control or hold thr ball ffs.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
He had a fantastic first season under Jose. Then got dropped the next for Matic.
He must have fallen out with him.
I’m still not sure on Herrera, I still feel he blows hot and cold too much. He was brilliant tonight though.
Was brilliant. Ole was out classed against Tuchel, but he’s leaned and got it absolutely spot on today.
I thought Sanchez did well when he came on. Won the ball back on a few occasions and worked his arsse off and relieved pressure. Lukaku was just losing it every time in that second half
Always thought Herrera is an underestimated midfield terrier
Every club needs one
Thought Pogba was the star player. Strong, lanky and leggy, has vision and pinpoint accuracy.
When he's on song, he's unplayable.
Though Shaw and Lindelof should get a mention too
You guys should be confident of securing CL for next year, starting by beating those mousers next
A special thought for Mata as well.
Ole singled him out and mentioned the defensive aspect of his role tonight in his post-match interview. He kept Jorginho out of the areas from which he can do damage first half, whilst still finding space in behind Kante and Jorginho when we won the ball to take pressure off and link with the forwards.
Absolutely made the first goal with some brilliant transitional play in finding space, working the ball out, then finding another pocket to make himself available in on the other flank. Such a clever player, and, for me, with that nous, experience, care with the ball, and touch, an important one to keep in the squad.
But I thought when we start Mata and Matic then we will always play slow ineffective football? It’s as if tactics and how oppenents set up and play has no relevance to how we need to set up ourselves.
Are Mata or Matic the future of the club, clearly not but they can see be of use as they are still both effective players when used correctly as we saw tonight. People really need to stop being so negative on here before a balls been kicked.
I think it was also being Chelsea being absolutely pants as well as us playing pretty well

I think we just killed their game completely.
We knew exactly how they were going to try to play, and we stopped them. And they have absolutely no Plan B. Sarri's changes are always man-for-man. He's frighteningly dogmatic.
Yeah it was good to watch...
In fairness we played much the same way against Spurs and Arsenal, plus Chelsea are in a bad place right now, so it didn't come as much of a surprise.
As a side note, Smalling was immense!! Still our best CB (despite his deficiencies) imo!

This.
A night full of positives but Lukaku was so frustrating. His touch is woeful, and I lost count how many times moves broke down when he got involved. Sanches on te other hand worked his socks off when he came on, granted he didnt create much but he worked so hard for the team.
I can't believe how mediocre we made Chelsea look.
I've never seen us keep Hazard so quiet. He usually turns it on against us.
The whole team defended fantastic today. Shaw and Snalling particularly impressed me and I thought Matic deserved credit after very nearly getting sent off. He settled down and got on with the job.

Yes very much so. Can’t really blame Sanchez as we were sat so far back. Thought he did very well.

Agree Rosso.
If there is a plan to use the diamond often, hes a good option in the #10 role. I think most people's beef is when we play him out on the right, which is fair enough. When we counter and hes out wide, he cannot carry the vall like expected. At least at the tip of the diamond he is in the right position to feed the strikers and midfield runners on the break with his movement and vision.
sadly missed the game tonight
only saw the last 7 mins
and one thing I noticed was while we sat back the in intensity of pressing was on a different class compare to what we saw under the special
i gathered sanchez came on as a sub, and the way he pressed is at least what i expect from a sub compared to when lukaku comes on

All of this.
Defensively we looked rock-solid. How many saves did Romero have to make?
Matic was probably lucky to stay on, but for his limitations, he's a model pro. Played very well after the moment of madness.

Most weeks I'm hoping we'll see the 4-3-3.
But when we do play with a ten, he's our best player for the role for me
Herrera was immense. Complete performance capped with a goal.
I’d say everyone had a very good game. Even Lukaku in the first half was working harder. He faded badly in the second half but Sanchez did well when came on in terms of his energy and workrate.
Good stuff from Ole tonight. What’s encouraging is knowing that this set up can be improved with some personel changes, as we’ve looked more effective on the counter with Martial and Lingard on the pitch. Smalling and Lindelof will be an interesting one, it’s potentially our best cb partnership right now, even though Smalling isn’t very good bringing the ball out of our defence.

I've always maintained that Smalling is our best defender, and with Lindelof showing promise, I wonder if a CB is indeed as big a priority as we think.
Theres a lot of talk that we need a Pogba back up, but we need someone who does what Matic does too. Hes calm and composed and as you say, a model pro. I can see why Ole kept him on despite him being in great danger of being sent off.
Re. The formation.
4-3-3 is my fav formation, but I quite like the flexibility and the fluidity of the diamond we have played.
I'd love us to get Joao Felix as a #10, a dm to rival Matic and a right back, but hey I'm sure if Ole gets the gig he will get the right players to fit what he wants.
I really like Smalling and think he is our best defender but my god does he need to stop holding on to people at set pieces. If he carries on then he is going to be conceding a fair few penalties when VAR is properly introduced
That was a very Mourinho esc type of performances when Mourinho was actually good
