Smalling loves a shirt pull too, you’d think at 28 years old he would have learned his lesson.

Good stuff from Ole tonight. What’s encouraging is knowing that this set up can be improved with some personel changes, as we’ve looked more effective on the counter with Martial and Lingard on the pitch. Smalling and Lindelof will be an interesting one, it’s potentially our best cb partnership right now, even though Smalling isn’t very good bringing the ball out of our defence.

Dazza.

Who do you realistically think we could get at CB to improve us there? I genuinely am stumped. VVD and Varane would certainly, but we have no chance of either for obvious reasons.

I really like Smalling and think he is our best defender but my god does he need to stop holding on to people at set pieces. If he carries on then he is going to be conceding a fair few penalties when VAR is properly introduced

He was bloody brilliant today. Our best defender. Agree he needs to cut that out, I believe he ripped Luizs' shirt

I don’t know who is realistic anymore, to be honest. We have a lot of pull in the transfer market but we are being priced out of signing some players, as our pursuit of a cb last summer showed. Toby could be an interesting option at £25m and would add proven, quality, premier league defender to the ranks. But then the issue with it is his age, injures, form dropping off and the fact that he doesn’t solve one of our biggest issues in defence: a commanding presence in the air. Look how many goals we concede from set pieces due to lacking that dominant figure in the box - and I’d level criticism at De Gea for this also. Koulibaly would be the ideal defender for us, but I’m unconvinced we can get that one over the line. So I’m not really sure who we need to come in that is attainable.

Yeah, maybe Sideshow Bob needed some ventilation, or Mike needed a souvenir. Glad we didn't have an ABU ref tonight. He was solid though, and has a real potential partnership growing with Victor.

Pretty much my thoughts too.

Toby prefers the RCB slot too, where Lindelof is also best. I'm not sure if hes the right signing we need.

Koulibaly mainly plays LCB, hes commanding like Smallung but much better with the ball. Napoli would be hell to deal with, and I'm not sure he brings guaranteed success for the outlay. Hes a better option than most though I would say.

De Ligt is an interesting option. Will be one of the worlds best in a few seasons. Barca seems inevitable.

I quite like Nathan Ake. Naturally a LCB he has a lot of qualities that would improve how we distribute from the back, but aerially we would get dominated with him and Lindelof together.

I've been keeping an eye on Michael Keane this season. Raw, but talented lad. Not what we really need right now but looks like the sort of player Carrick, McKenna and Phelan can work on.

You’ve got to be joking? He is awful

Solskjaer clearly doing more than putting smiles on faces. Really clever switching to diamond today. Mata was more influential and we nullified Chelsea well.

Just shows how little attention to take of other teams' players.

There are NO awful players in the PL. Some are fantastic, some just up to their job in the main.

Otherwise, they'd be out.

I think Lindelof’s most impressive performances have come on the left hand side, to be honest. Since he’s started looking like a defender for us he’s looked comfortable either side, which is a valuable trait to have.

We’ll wait and see, I guess. I’m enjoying each game as they come now so I’m less concerned about the signings we need to fix the squad - and I do think there are many - which was rarely the case under the previous three managers as critiquing our flaws and how to fix them become the main topic of discussion because the football lacked excitement.

So you honestly believe Micheal Keane could do a job for us?
Shows how little attention you’ve been paying. How about you ask Everton fans how good he is. I’m sure they’d be more than happy for him to come to us

Yes, he should come. He'd be taught how to use his raw talent properly, via a serious upgrade in the level of coaching he'd receive at Carrington. He's as good as anyone we've currently got in the U-23s.

Should think so considering he is 26

Keane would be a pointless signing, we have better cb’s. What we need are upgrades in defence. Fullback is still the biggest issue for me in this back four.

I’m still not sure on Herrera, I still feel he blows hot and cold too much. He was brilliant tonight though

.....

Good grief.

That Roy Keane was overrated too. Sure he'll give you a 10 against Juve, a 9 against Arsenal but I remember him in a game against Middlesborough where other players shone brighter.....

Herrera does blow hot and cold, and I think is lacking in the technical attributes we need to become a really top team. However, he’s definitely one for the big matches, he’s probably been our most reliable player in that regard since he’s been at the club.

Is He? Jesus, he looks so much younger. Thought he was around twenty! My apologies.

In my defence, it's my first Senior Moment of the season.

Pogba is more hot and cold than Herrera. I would say Herrera is more hot and warm.

Much a muchness in their time at United, though how they are playing under Ole is making it difficult to assess their time at United when you consider we’ve not found a system that has complimented them until now.

I think we need a more calming influence in central midfield to pull the strings from deep, could be potentially a very good midfield if we can combine that with Herrera and Pogba.

posted on 18/2/19

We need someone better than Matic that is for sure.

posted on 19/2/19

Matic has done well under Ole, in fairnes. I think we need better than Herrera as well, if I’m honest. But right now he’s proving himself undroppable, and is showing leadership qualities that have been sorely lacking in the middle of the pitch.

What’s available in the market will obviously dictate what midfielder we go for in the summer, if we indeed do. But as of yet, I don’t think we know enough about Ole’s preferences for how he’d like to build his ideal midfield because he’s not been in a position to do so before. So I’m intrigued by what kind of midfielder he’ll go for, as I suspect he will get the job on a permanent basis.

It's not like it would ever be a possibility for various reasons but I would love Rodri in that role. Big release clause though, obviously.

I find it amazing Castor Troy thinks we are clinical when we have one of the worst shots on target to goal ratios in the PL and Arsenal have like the best.
