All this Cardiff City paying respect, "he's one of us" has been shown up as the farce it was with them refusing to pay Nantes the money.

Classless club, 'thoughts and prayers' were never going to change that.

Never got the one of us banners. Never kicked a ball for them. All due respect. And they should just pay up.

Everyone is quick with the show messages and fake sympathy until it comes to the money

The question is whether the papers were filed with the insurance. Just because he as signed doesn't mean he automatically gets covered by any insurance. They would probably have to file additional paper work with them to make the cover valid. Was this done immediately or sat in someone's desk?

Nantes were a bit insensitive asking for the cash so soon after sala’s death. However, the leak that they did that came from Cardiff.

Why would Cardiff leak that unless they were trying to get out of paying it?

Classless from both clubs.

Especially after the sheer class shown by Cardiff FANS (not club) afterwards.

Nantes aren’t being insensitive, the transaction was done before his death and are legally entitled to the money.

Who knows they might even be counting on that money to pay of their own debts in the transfer market.

Cardiff are the classless ones here.

Honour the deal and then claim back on the insurance.

I’d agree that Cardiff are playing a silly game here. They’ve tried to slant it their way but have come out looking bad.

Cardiff are very unlucky with this transfer given the circumstances. 15m is a lot of money for both clubs. They want to wait for the investigation to finish. Unless Nantes were involved with arranging the flight then there won't be anything that will get them out of paying.

Don't really see a problem with it. It is going to come down to who arranged the plane. I suspect there is a good chance that the insurance company won't pay out.

It doesn’t matter who arranged the plane as the deal was signed and he was a Cardiff player.

So Cardiff have to keep to their arrangements otherwise they’ll be in breach of their contract with Nantes.

Although I’m pretty sure it was Sala people that arranged it.

Cardiff should pay the money. Nantes, unless they needed the money, should have waited a bit. Cardiff did release the news of it so they can't claim to be innocent in all this.

Of course it matters who arranged the plane. Also the standard of it. Was it fit for purpose and was the pilot capable?

If this was done “as a favour” as is the suggestion then there’s every chance the insurance company won’t pay out. Insurance cover will specifically insist on any flights being by registered airlines and the like and quite possibly whilst on “company business”. This flight appeared to be neither.

Notwithstanding any of that both clubs have behaved abysmally over the “who pays who” scenario only a day or so after the young mans tragic demise but don’t even start me on bloody pathetic fans turning up in their thousands and grown men crying ffs when the lad never even kicked a ball in anger for them.

Pathetic Princess Di like nonsense. 99% of them wouldn’t even go to a relatives funeral most likely.

Agree with a lot of the comments above. Both Clubs are behaving in an unedifying way, that doesn't make either of them look good IMO. The human tragedy that has sadly occurred here has only had token Lip Service paid to it, before they have quickly moved on and self interest has reared it's ugly head.

As I understand it, if Nantes arranged a plane that wasn't covered by third party insurance, there would be an argument to be had about whether the player was insured during the flight, and if not, where the responsibility lies. Cardiff aren't going to hand the money over, if there is a chance that they player wasn't insured and that it was Nantes fault. All that would serve to do is create another layer of legalities to go through if there was then grounds for them reclaim the money from Nantes.
