I personally don't think it's too likely that the referee's are deliberately favouring one team, but I'm just as sure that a certain amount of unconscious bias is most definitely prevalent.
I think it's only human.
You ask 100 Celtic and 100 Rangers fans to give an honest opinion on a contentious incident during a game involving both teams and there will be without doubt be a disparity of opinion that sways towards their own team, I know fine well I would struggle to call it perfectly down the middle everytime in those debateble moment s because my starting point is firmly entrenched in one side.
The vast majority of our refs will have grown up supporting a team in Scotland and that connection won't magically disappear because they have became referee's, and since our FA does not ask the refs which team they support like most leagues do it's gonna end up influencing certain debateble decisions in the split second they have to make a call.

Do you not think the article in the DR has a touch of Here fellas, see how Brendan Rodgers says referees do the best they can and never criticises you in public? In private he's actually trying to steal food from your children's bellies. Just so you know, for the rest of the season and that...
Cynical i know...
If referees were honest about their allegiance there would only be about 3 or 4 available for Rangers games.

And what about Celtic supporting refs? Couldn’t have them ref a rangers game or a Celtic game.... so all that happens is people fake which team they support so they can continue working, Celtic fans will never actually be happy, I’m sure refs down south have a preference on who is their ‘Scottish team’ yeah I know, it’s probably confusing when you see all the Irish flags ðŸ¤
Perhaps we could teach players and managers to stop cheating ... then a two year old could ref any game

We could also stop analyzing every single decision or mistake that they make. Do we repeatedly look at misplaced passes from players or goal attempts in row Z potentially every bit as much a "game changer" as a ref being conned into awarding a free kick etc.

All for foreign refs - ours clearly aren't good enough. We need to try an alternative to see if it is better. I think it would be.
No ref should EVER referee in a game in which his team are playing. But that happens all the time here without question. Disgraceful.

I agree, problem is it's not even that simple, coz refereeing their main rivals is just as problematic, and with a huge percentage of Scottish people supporting 2 teams that would leave us with very few refs reffing these games.
The solution I would prefer is VAR combined with some sort of like uefa review panel that deal with all the compliance stuff.
Telt ye robot refs linked tae VAR and AI
With all the complaints about refereeing standards, etc, then I don’t see why we shouldn’t explore this at least.
