At the risk of breaking the tribal mood, I've always been impressed by Wijnaldum when I've seen him play. That Dutch-trained marriage of technique and intelligence. If I were to take one LFC midfielder for our side, he'd be the one.

But the obvious upgrade we could do with is someone in Matic's role. I'd be looking for someone substantially in advance of Henderson's ability in that respect.

Agree. I've always felt he isn't clinical enough in the final third though, but a very tidy player one I'd take at OT.

The reality is, the only top midfielder in either squad is Pogba. It's an area both have spent big trying to bring up to scratch and failed.

Picked my mixed XI..

De Gea (just, perhaps just for diplomacy)
Martial
Pogba

Are the only Man U players to make the side
--------------------
we'll expect a good thrashing on sunday then i guess
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Depends if Man U think it’s more important to beat Liverpool than PSG I guess.

True, wijnaldum takes Herrera to the cleaners every day of the week. Henderson likewise
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Haha, Scouse wit
----------------------------------------------------------------------
To add to this

Jordan Henderson.......0 goals.....0 assists
Ander Herrera............3 goals.....3 assists
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We don’t need Hendo to be creative, says everything when you rely on Herrera to be a creative midfielder.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Nah we have Pogba for that, who's stats alone more than double your entire midfield combined

Tend to agree, Fabinho and Wijnaldum for us are really dependable and can have good matches, both are about at their ceiling though.

Pogba is far more dynamic and a top player.

Our midfield will likely win the battle against Liverpools Sunday so tell me, how many midfielders do they need after after spending 100million on Keita & fabihno
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You spent 100m on Pogba for him to spend the best part of 3 seasons learning how to play football.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
You could argue that he spent 2.5 seasons being taught how NOT to play football. Then a Nowegian angel came and scrubbed that nonsense away.

This is a pointless argument because both are different players and roles in the team.
SAF saw the potential in Henderson and decided against him beacuse he didn't think Hendo would live to to it. Good on him for proving SAf wrong and doing so. But I think he was lucky Klopp came along, under any other manager he would have proved SAF correct.

As for the LFC fans knocking Herrera down. He out Kante'd Kante in 2016/17 in terms if interceptions, tackles. Also I think since OGS started he has the highest interceptions and tackles in the PL. He scores goals, has great movement and attacks well, and he is a leader. Whether you want to admit it or not, as an individual, he is having a bigger impact on United 's results than any if your midfielders are on Liverpool's results.

Imo Henderson would start in every top six midfield bar City. Managers love him.

Doubt it. Our midfield is integral to the way we play, Man U have a different approach. On average points per game we have the best results in the league.

He's one of those who isn't great to watch, but puts in 100%, follows instruction and seems to get more from those around him.

Herrera is a little similar in that respect, he really gets the crowd and players around him going.

Unfair comparison, he had more opportunity to do so as Mourinho parks the bus to let opponents come onto Man U.

Don't mind Herrera. I quite liked Joe Allen too.

What I will say about Herrera is that he does know how to disrupt a game, tactical fouls, drawing fouls, and general chithousery.

Wish our lot had a bit of that to take sting out of games.

Henderson seems to be a lightening rod for criticism and I have no idea why. He's not an exceptional player but his technique is sound, passing and tackling are both good and his energy is fantastic. He's also got footballing intelligence, he's been asked to play several roles for Liverpool through the years and he does exactly as his manager asks - it's why so many different managers for Liverpool and England have continued to pick him.

Herrera I haven't really watched enough tbh, Seems a tidy player though.

What a stupid question. Up there with would you like a £10 note or a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
