I was surprised when I heard we were playing 3 at the back. I noticed that we were when Cole went off but till then I thought we were 4-4-2.

Bogle is the most unlikely centre half `I've ever seen, he is far too small. We should go back to 4-3-3 and do it properly with players who can run.

Yes. The curse of the Red Button but with gaelic subtitles. I can now see what you have all been talking about..........

Huddz, Bryson and Nugent are all playing as if they know that they won’t be here next season no matter what. Wilson, now that the wonder goals have dried up, is looking poor as a midfielder. Maybe he is destined for higher things, maybe not, but while firing Derby to promotion might be good for the CV, perhaps scrapping it out in scruffy games isn’t quite his thing. Ten or so games ago he was our best player, now we are getting little out of him. Tomori has been a shining light though, clearly made of the right stuff, very competitive and consistent. After making a few errors early on he now looks the best of the loanees.

The worrying thing about last night was that we never even LOOKED like getting a goal. Is Neil Harris a tactical genius to be able to snuff us out so easily? Hardly. Any team can get mugged in a game they dominate if the luck goes against them but we can’t claim that last night. Lampard needs to solve this quickly if the season is not to fizzle out completely.

I also thought the same Vidal. We never looked like scoring. And for those who have clamoured for Waghorn and Marriott together...well...I hope your happy now. If I had any advice to Lamps is to go and watch the games we were very good. You will find yourself again.

Just 3 questions

How much did fatigue play a part after such I high number of games?

Has Lampard over prioritised the cups on the league?

The game being moved to Monday benefits you far more than us?

Our midfield was so ineffective and Marriott/Waghorn had very poor service. When Marriott did get a chance ehe fluffed it.

We only made 3 clear cut chances, two to Marriott and one to Tomori. That says to me we did look like scoring at least 3 times. The first Marriott chance was a clear penalty as well. Had any of those gone in we wouldn't be wrist slashing now. I think Waghorn would be best paired with Anya in the U23s.

We did have the luck go against us as they scored from our free kick. They didn't even play counter attacking but just had the luck of the clearance going to their only forward player.

I agree with you Spart, Waghorn can’t control a ball and cost 4 million too much. But there are others who are as bad. We need a lot of new players next year and I hope they are better than Evans, Zooom, Waghorn, Malone et al.

The game was almost a copy of the same fixture 5 years ago. That time although we dominated midfield all our attacks floundered at the feet of Conor Sammon (no pun intended). After much time wasting Millwall scored in the second half from a corner and hung on to their lead..

The main reason this game sticks in my memory was that Sammon was awarded Man of the Match which caused great mirth amongst the Derby faithful who had hung on to the bitter end. I gave up on Sammon that day and so did Derby because I don't think he played again for us.

Now I am not suggesting Waghorn is as bad as Sammon but they both seem to have read the same coaching manual on ball control.

I don’t agree that switching formation was to
bame last night. I was pleased we tried something different ie Waggy and Marriott up top. I for one don’t think that partenership is dead in the water after one outing.

The fact is we seem incapable of breaking (usually lower) teams down who park the bus, put men behind the ball and try and counter attack. It works against us - as has been proved far too many times this season.

This is where Frank and his staff have to earn their gravy.

Marriott and Waghorn both had very ineffective games but the service to them, other than Tomori’s pass for the one that Marriott fluffed, was non-existent. Like Baz says we have no idea how to unpick a well-organised defence. Unless you have a superstar forward who can create things all by himself you have to give him something to work with.

Any ideas who our top players are for assists?

With Mount off the boil since his original injury and currently out of the side with another niggle we really don't have a creative midfielder to select. Thorne in my opinion would possibly be the closest and given he's on loan at Luton and can't get a game gives a clear reflection that our central midfield is weak.

Of all the managers Lampard has played under it does look like Ranieri's tinkering with formation / players selected has had an influence on his managerial style. There's been a few games now that his team selection has frustrated me!

We all try to work out who a manager will pick but this season in midfield and on the wings I'm always surprised whether that's Mason Bennett, Waghorn, Dutch Dude or Lawrence (when not deserving to be in the side)

Lampard's insistence on Waghorn on the right is very odd to me. Marriott and Waghorn should be battling it out for CF with Nugent third choice given his goal scoring ability is fading.

Holmes and Wilson should be considered first choice wingers in my opinion with Lawrence and Dutch Dude back ups.

We definitely need to work on our pattern of play when tweaking formations - it sounded like we had no ideas what to do upon switching to 4-4-2.

When fit, I think in a 4-2-3-1 formation we should try King and Johnson in CM with Holmes, Lawrence/Mount and Wilson and Marriott upfront.

Desi, I love your optimism and positivity. Right now I cannot seem to raise the steam myself. I suppose it's after 3 depressing displays. Ipswich, Brighton, Millwall.
Tomorrow will tell maybe. Could be the end of our season or a new beginning. The latter I hope.

Rugby: Chemically enhanced ex public school boys standing on a field while one of them throws the ball from the touch line or a different one kicks the ball in the air. It is what football would be like if it just consisted of throw ins and free kicks.
