The other team committed a foul though...basically broke the rules of the game. They deserve to be obstructed.

"Hey man...I know I tried to break your ankle but please can you not obstruct me. Trying to defend here"

----------------------------------------------------------------------

That makes absolutely no sense.

'You fouled me so I get to do what I want for the next 2 minutes'.

What happened to no subs after 90mins? Nothing more annoying when chasing a game. I would even have gone back to 85mins but looks like its not being implemented.

So 4 basically means the team taking the free kick aren’t allowed any players to stand by the opposing team’s wall?

Problem with this is if the other team have genuinely injured your player, they then benefit from you playing with 10 men.

They are literally just standing there in the wall to block the goalkeeper's view of the freekick taker.

That can happen anytime. We tried that with Rashford last week when you made 3 quick subs. End of the day you wanna see a thrilling end and not someone come on as a sub when they have no chance of even touching the ball.

Except rule 4,I feel these are good changes.

What happened to the 6 second rule for goalkeepers holding the ball. All of them hold it for far longer, when they make an easy catch they just lie on the floor to waste time and then take ages to kick it up field.

It can only happen currently if you've made all of your subs.

Penalties will now become de-facto water breaks. You only need 2 players for one.

The defending side won't even be able to launch a counter-attack if the penalty doesn't go in.

Yeah with these new dumbass rules

No attacking players in a wall is a joke, players should be allowed to stand where they want provided they are the required distance from the ball. Nonsensical new rule.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep this is a farce, every player on the pitch is potentially an attacking player, full backs for example are often attackers.

They might as well have a 15 minute break if Pogba is taking the pen too

Okay, those moaning about the player in the wall, consider this.

It is against the rules to intentionally obstruct the keeper's view by standing in his way. That already exists.

So all they're doing is extending this to defenders. It will be against the rules to intentionally stand in a defenders way i.e. to take up a position that has no intention other than to obstruct the opposition.

Seems perfectly reasonable to me.

So what's gonna happen if the keeper saves the penalty it but pushes it out for a corner? Will it still be a corner or does the keeper get the ball like he would if it stays in play?

posted on 5/3/19

I like all of them. They make the game a touch fairer.

posted on 5/3/19

I kind of like the penalty rule. Only thing I have against it is the excitement than can potentially occur if the pen is saved - ala the Watford Leicester playoff. Leicester missed the penalty to win the game, but missed the pen, call was cleared down field and Watford scored on the counter.

Granted this rarely happens in the Premier League, but I feel it takes some of the excitement out of penalties.

Team defending the pen have gained a slight advantage too with no rebounds.

Are the rest of the players that are not involved with the penalty going to have a nice massage and chat whilst the penalty is going on?

You lose the drama of a spot kick, if it gets saved and the defenders and attackers race to get to the rebound. Bit like the Auba penalty in the NLD even though Vertonghen was encroaching but it was dramatic with the goal line challenge

I'm not so bothered about that as penalties in a shootout are pretty dramatic.

But I am struggling to understand the reasoning behind it. What benefit does it bring, or is it just saying the referees are not capable of watching for encroachment anymore?

I like the penalty rule alot I've always thought its very harsh on the keeper when he saves it only to see it end up in the net anyway. If it hadn't been for a great piece of defending from Verts it would of happened to Hugo on Saturday. Now Lloris has finally started saving them lets give him some help.

Most likely the latter, encroachment is hardly called by the ref. The majority of these rules are just to make life easier for a lot of the incompetent ref's
