He had issues with Jose but very supportive former team mate Ole Gunnar, he’s generally positive towards United unlike some of our former players some of them sounds like an alcoholic.

Why does it have to be an agenda?

Perhaps he's just giving his opinion and perhaps he's frustrated with how the club is being run.

Tbf everything that you quoted he said is true. We didn't set out to win the PL this season and rightfully so as it was a transition season.

The negativity is simply an extreme reflection of our entire fan base anyway. The getting 6th and not having a chance against Rennes while extreme you would've also heard a certain percentage of it fans say that.

Henry as a pundit started off quite optimistic and slowly the pessism even seeped into him.

Even a broken clock will be right at least twice a day.

I have to say Old Merse is dead on the money with that little rant. Dion Dublin should have let him let rip.

posted on 12/3/19

Aye? Where does he say we will finish 6th? He stated Spurs and Arsensl would get the last 2 CLplaces. Dion Dublin said United and Arsenal
It was on The Debate last night.

We’ve just taken four points home and away against Spurs and United both in quarter final of the Champions League so what’s with a little bit of positivity. They just go on and on regarding Ozil is this and that or Aubameyang this and that or Leno isn’t good enough am just puzzled like many fans what’s their agenda are they trying to derail our season so that they look like great pundits ie ‘I told you so’ because most of these pundits have already written us off before the season started.

“This is a middle of the table French team and they’re getting beat 3-1.

“I mean, they have put severe pressure on themselves next Thursday, severe pressure and I won’t be surprised they get knocked out.

posted on 12/3/19

That isnt him saying we will finish 6th though. Was it in a different interview or something? That quote in the article was from last night where he said we will finish top 4.

‘Defensively they are one of the worst sides I’ve ever seen in the top six of the Premier League,’ Merson told Sky Sports. ‘Even when they were on that unbeaten run, I wasn’t convinced and now they are showing their true colours. They might have beaten Man United but they rode their luck and they have no chance of top four even fifth I don’t see Chelsea finishing behind Arsenal.

The man is sicko.

About 38 minutes in. Merse says he will go Tottenham Arsenal. This is the article conversation.

When did he say this? Massively contradicting himself.

Seems very similar to what he said in January, without the last sentence...

I can sort of see his point, because we do play kamikazi football somwtimes but where is the belief or optimism?
People forget that this is Unai's first season, he has had to deal with the AW hangover, not much money to spend at all and is getting accustomed to our league.
If we do end up any higher than 6th this season, then he has done an excellent job.

The optimism is more over a longer term. We have just replaced a manager who ran the club for over 20 years. We are making a lot of changes behind the scenes.
I don't think it is fair to say Emery should win the league in his first season. Our expectations this season were to see positive change. 12 points up on last season. Only 3 points behind our entire total, with 8 games to go. Double the points won against the other top 6. 3rd highest scorers, 8 more than this stage last season. Conceded less as well. Unbeaten at home since City on day one.

Our away form is still a worry, but with 5 away games to go we already have 3 more points than last season.

4 of our summer signings have been a success. Only Lichsteiner - a short term solution - has flopped.

Lots of optimism to be had, tbf.

There's no shortage of belief and blind optimism among us ordinary fans. I approach every single match expecting us to score more than the opposition, and will readily shout myself hoarse for all the good that will do.

I still have a lot of time for people like Merse. Some things still need to be said.

posted on 12/3/19

The belief and optimism line was aimed at Merson tbh.

posted on 12/3/19

That is something I disagree with Merson on here. I understand the "Arsenal should be aiming for the title", but if he cannot see why this season is different then it is strange.

That's a bit harsh on Lichtsteiner. For a 3rd choice 35-year old right back, I'd say he's overachieved all expectations.

I don't think the people who brought him in expected him to play in almost half our league games so far.

He's also kept himself amazingly fit. A fact not lost on anyone who's an Arsenal fan. His name is almost always in the match day squad.
