Wow great argument. Born in London, English accent. 100% English

Payback time for the Irish trying to bribe any young english player going into playing for them through a distant relative. Luckily Rice saw common sense

So he is a traitor then playing for Ireland?

Either way, he is a traitor. Wasn't given a chance in England, so was happy to choose Ireland using his Irish passport. Its a stab in the back to the country who gave him a chance.

For England there is a big chance he won't play much or gets abuse for every wrong pass, for Ireland he'd be a starter and a hero.

London born, aren't both his parents English as well? Qualified for Ireland through the tenuous 'grandparent' rule?

Ok so being best placed to discuss this here it is. He is 100% not a traitor, despite the notion above from Tompkins of ‘payback’ (complete nonsense mate) Rice did play 3 senior games for us so the expectation would have been he would play for ROI but his levels improved and England decided they wanted him, fair enough clearly a talented player and he is, of course, English.

The FAI did this as a bit of a joke and that’s certainly how it’s gone down over here. He’s referred to now as England’s Declan Rice.

Fundamentally his career will be greatly enhanced by playing for England than it will playing for Ireland. When he leaves west ham in a year or two his contract will be much better off the back of being an England international.

Seems like a nice lad and wish him all the best

That was me, not Tomkins.

If he doesn't break into the England squad, his career would be better playing for Ireland.

And he is of course not a traitor, but when England didnt need him, Ireland gave him a chance. And now he is turning his back. Its not cool in my opinion, but its his choice and career I guess.

Could have had a nation at his feet, less likely to happen in England.

You can't be this dumb

Maybe he should play for Wales

Probably could if he has a distant relative, it’s why he qualified for Ireland.

So the Irish have called up yet another English player, josh Cullen. He is as Irish as I am, from Southend and Irish grandparents, same as me.

Do they not produce footballers in Ireland anymore? I consider myself 1/8th Irish but wouldn't dream of representing them. How long until a fully English Ireland 11? It's sad to see for the Irish public

Eoin Morgan captained and played for both England and Ireland...👍
