Saiss

Saiss has done enough to keep his place. Bennett’s turn on the sidelines for a spell.

Agree with everything you've said Amiga. Even though Bennett has just received a suspension for excessive bookings, I can't help feeling that if Saiss had been the regular player he might have received even more bookings.

That said, starting from scratch, I would narrowly vote for Saiss, as he is more adaptable and can cover more positions in an emergency. However I agree that both could be improved on but I try not to take a "grass is greener approach", both have done well and I would keep them both on board for next season.

Saiss for me. Agree that Bennett has been great, but would replace both in the summer. Would keep Saiss as cover as he is more versatile.

Saiss has been incredibly patient this season always doing his best when called upon to fill in from the bench. Now his chance has finally come to get a run of games he is embracing the opportunity and will, I think, keep his place. Bennett's turn to occupy the bench for a bit.

There is really not much to choose between them. Both are solid defenders, Saiss is more confident with the ball at his feet and is the better passer. Bennett is stronger in the air and gives us more of an aerial threat for set pieces.

They have both done well Gem, but I agree with Wulfrunnut, And would be an area I would be looking to strengthen.

I'm not sure Bennett is better in the air to be honest. Saiss is also very strong aerially. Where Bennett is better is with his defensive positioning.

Saiss, especially when you consider he hasn't had many games at the position this season yet so would get better.

Would like to see us strengthen that position in the summer though with a full time defender rather than a flexible option. Saiss will hopefully stay though as he has shown he is plenty good enough for this level and extremely valuable to the squad.

Bennett

I'd go Saiss...BUT...this is the one position I'd like to see strengthened with a top 4 class player, so bench them both!

Good to see Coady still being overlooked by England but Hudson-Odoi called up already after half a dozen games

Interesting to note that all 3 recognised central defenders in the England squad are playing at clubs lower in the league than Connor Coady.

Has Southgate ever been to Molineux?

Just had another look at the England squad. Our midfield options have never been so poor have they?

There is no chance we will progress in any major tournament with that little lot.

I don't think Bennett has done much wrong and is very unlucky to have lost his place just because of an accumulation of cards. Don't see the weakness on the ball or passing the article refers to, unfair criticism of someone that has been amongst our most reliable players.

Having said that I think Saiss has done well since he has come in. He has his faults in that he gives away too many unnecessary free kicks, and would be more comfortable on the left rather than the right. But against Utd they had Shaw, Pogba and Martial operating on their left and they could easily have been their match winners, but Saiss and Doherty stood up to them well with the help of Dendoncker. I have been saying for a couple of years that if Saiss has a role to play for us in the top flight it would likely be in defence and he is justifying that opinion I think. In midfield he is ok if we want to play defensively but doesn't really help our style of play by slowing the game down.

Not much to choose between Saiss and Bennett then and I would be content for Nuno to select either.

As for Coady, Wolves play with a back 3, and he has been excellent. But England play with a back 4. I don't think he would get into the Wolves team if we played a back 4 so is unlikely to get an England call up unless Southgate changed his set up.

Can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, but many said the same before the world cup last year.
