Rodgers has expressed quite openly that he doesn't have a favoured formation, hopefully we now have someone who will play to the players strengths while taking into consideration the Opposition where needed.

Viva good Management!

I'm getting really nervous about all this positivity.

I don't mind either 3 or 4 at the back, provided we stick to one system rather than swapping around. On reflection three CBs sounds good as it has the added bonus of irritating Dunge, almost as much as a 6.5 rating!

We have got our LCFC back and the players are going NOT to get their flip flops on like the last two seasons when we have been safe BR will want to see what they can do and they have to deliver.

"Puel constantly bemoaned the lack of intensity and pressing in our play, so you can't say that it was intentional. Rodgers has been able to put the message across much clearer and the change is noticeable so whether it was a lack of communication skills or BR's added pashun in getting it across, it has certainly improved."

--------

He bemoaned intensity; I never heard him talk about pressing. They simply weren't being coached to do it though, whatever he says. Rodgers had them doing it against Fulham in less than a fortnight. Puel had over a year. His style of possession football didn't incorporate it. Whatever he meant about intensity, it wasn't that.

Puel did always talk about: “intenseetee” and I was always reassured when he did. It was evidence that he could see what everybody else could see.

What he meant by that was more difficult to fathom. We rarely played a high press so it wasn’t that. I assumed that he was looking for the players to retain the ball better and move it more quickly. Teams that rely on possession to break down teams have to retain the ball really well. They have to be really creative when in attack and the movement has to be very good to prise an opening. I always thought that this is what Puel was talking about – that constant pressure that possession brings until an opportunity presents itself.

Puel’s issue was that style also relies heavily on patience and control. For whatever reason we improved on the first bit under his management, but never mastered the last bit. We rarely looked like we were fully in control of games and that the possession would lead to the desired levels of creativity. We can speculate whether that was down to Puel’s inability to communicate his message or it was just that we don’t have the right players to implement it. Personally I think it’s a bit of both, but not having very much creativity in the midfield area, sometimes out of the manager’s choice, certainly didn’t help.

The good thing about a high press is that it puts you on the front foot straightaway. You start games with a clear plan and energy and intensity inevitably follows. This should hopefully help us not to start games so slowly in the future. Too often, under Puel, the game plan failed very early because we rarely controlled the game well enough not to concede the first goal. You could argue that the high press style is more suitable for the Premier League and our climate, but I always believe that any system is achievable with the right players and the right coaching. The key for BRodgers is to recognise that and play the system that suits his current squad or buy the players he needs. Puel certainly didn’t do the former and ultimately he wasn’t trusted with the latter.

Mendy certainly suggests it was Puel’s communication issue in his latest interview.

/Mendy/ says that? As in French Mendy from France, who speaks French?

Dublin: In French GCSE, I obtained a grade of "C".

Or, in French, "C".

I don't know how but there you have it. The upshot is that if my aunt has ever lost her quill in France then I'm the man to start a search.

I’m with Dublin. I much preferred this forum when it had English speaking fans.

All these French speaking fans, coming over here, invading our forum with their language of love and sexy accents.

Football has changed for the worse. I’m so glad we have a strong British manager to take us forward in the right way.
