Throughout history people have thought that things were better in the past. If you're looking at intolerance and hatred, is it worst now that back in the 50's and 60's? In terms of social unrest and political unease, is today worse than when Thatcher was destroying the working classes and creating a class war? People "feared" punks and skin heads in the 70's and 80's in the same way they fear "youths" in gangs today. The only thing that I really look at as being something that is getting away from us is the knife culture in the capital.... Everything else is more of the same to be honest.

Winston did you vote for Brexit?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

No
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So are you not more annoyed at your generation who caused this, than the younger generation who are pisssed off because of what your generation caused?

Leave the UK, live somewhere else and you will see a world with plenty of sunshine and warmth and a lot less violence in front of your eyes.

Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself, I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today, I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is gone, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.
To be fair, I have been on heavy medication since a back operation, but still.😀

Maybe I'm over-simplifying it (and being overly critical) BUT this is how I see it:

When I was at school (60s & 70s) kids had respect and were taught what was acceptable behaviour. If you behaved like a ѕhіt in school you were dealt with to some degree or other, sometimes corporal punishment was the deterrent. Yes there were still unruly little ѕhіts who's parents couldn't give a fυсk, but they were few & far between.

Fast forward 10-15 years & corporal punishment has been abolished, Childline had become a thing and the aforementioned unruly little ѕhіts were now parents themselves. That new generation of unruly children had no moral fibre just like their parents but were now free to do as they liked with no recourse.

Now those fυсkwits have been allowed to breed and we have children dying every few days because the same amoral arses doing the killing have no moral compass like their parents & grandparents before them.

For every parent of an unruly little ѕhіt back when I was at school there are now an average of 2.4 (the average children per household) my age, plus their 5.6 children, plus their 13.8 kids today who will (or have already done so) bring an average of 33.2 progeny into this world. That is a total of 55 amoral arseholes with no sense of right or wrong.

Yes this country is going to hell in a hand basket and there is absolutely fυсk all we can do about it.

Greatteamswinit4times- a terrible enemy (U6008)

I don't think things are worse overall.

If people park like idiots and never speak to their neighbours, it doesn't really affect the quality of my life in anyway you'd measure, does it?

But it's still a factor in general happiness.

I would say to keep your eye on the wealth gap though. That has the potential to be a huge problem and would make things genuinely worse.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I guess that some people it could impact general happiness, but do people on the whole care? I certainly don't. People have their family and friends and there work and social life, the things that actually matter. Of course lots of small things go into your day to day, and negative situations can influence you in the moment, but overall happiness though? Not for me.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

There's no formula though, is there?

All the little things add up eventually.

When you are feeling good/happy, note down why it is you are feeling good (good food, exercise, giving, seeing friends etc). Same applies to feeling bad (bad food, no exercise, being a meany, comparing yourself to others). Then consciously try and do more of the things that make you feel good and less of the things that make you feel bad. Seems simple enough but a lot of people neglect to take the time reflect and evaluate.

Do they? I bet they don't to most people.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
At least you are acknowledging that they are little things. You can build on that and see the bigger picture eventually. The little things like bad parking etc will eventually have no impact on your happiness.

Was a child better off being born in prehistory? Probably not, probably chance of dying was much higher than surviving and if they survived they'd be eaten by a saber tooth tiger.

Were kids better off being born BC? Probably not, same story as prehistory, but instead a saber tooth, it was probably slavery that killed you.

Was a child better off born in the 13th century? Maybe if they survived the crusades, the plague, typhus, diphtheria or the common cold.

The 16th and 17th century saw big wars fought in Europe, again in the 20th century WW1 and WW2 and subsequent cold war.

Maybe in the 60s / 70s when the world was relatively at peace. But from the 80s on with the Iraq/Iran war and other conflicts till now the world has been a violent place. It has been from the moment man erected.

Does it affect me as an adult though? No, I live in piece in a town in Ireland. ISIS, violence, social media, do not affect me. I have two 3 year old boys. They are oblivious and happy. Their only issue is that if they don't eat my spaghetti, they wont get their yogurt, which pisses them off. We dont have TV channels, so they won't see or hear the news.

When they are old enough, they will be taught history in school and learn about the pre-history, about jesus, the crusades, the plague, the world wars and probably think they world was sheite and still is sheite. There is no difference if you have to fear the plague or fear ISIS or fear to be sold to the highest bidder.

The world looks facked up but it has always been. Difference is, now everything that is going on in the world is on at your finger tips so you are more aware.

Its all about how you raise your kids and what you teach them. Just don't let them join JA and they will be alright.

I'm not really sure what your point is.

Let's just ignore whether people couldn't care less about those around them because it's not generally something that makes you happy/unhappy?

Hulk's little brother Yoda (U1250)

Nice post. Funny ending

I try to be positive and I try to positively affect things. I take care of my old neighbour when I can, I do things in my local community, I pay my staff a good wage and any success we have is shared. I try to lead by example in that respect, but I feel like it's pushing water upstream in many respects.

Also rather than taking people's action at face value, and getting upset about how they affect you, try and think about reasons as to why they are behaving the way they are.

Yeh sure.

People who park on pavements are lazy.

People who play loud music in public are inconsiderate.

People who let their dogs crap on the pavement and just leave it are lazy and inconsiderate.

Any others?

I live in a town 30 miles out of London and I love it. Neighbours are pleasant, nice atmosphere in the pubs and restaurants etc.

I also work in the city and find the vast majority are decent people. You meet up with your friends/colleagues have a few beers and get on with your life. People say thanks when you hold the door for them etc. Have never really seen the evidence for the hatred towards Londoners.

I think the biggest issues come in the suburbs and those people are gradually moving further and further out.

But it makes your life better, and that of people around you. Thats your job done in making the world a better place. I don't feel the urge to change the world. I try to help where it does have an effect, like donations to local hospitals, or sponsor a kids walk for a local charity. That enough for me. I will never bring peace to the middle east, so I am not going to put that weight on my shoulders.

There’s good and bad everywhere. For example yesterday was our national holiday but the lads place you’d have seen me was Dublin city center.
It’s full of scrotes and toerags on paddy’s day assaulting and mugging tourists coupled with idiots who can’t hold their beer.
You don’t see that on the TV reports
