Er, surely it already has? Two transfer windows with no signings, despite hoping to challenge for the league and CL?

I believe him. If you didn't have the new stadium to pay for he still wouldn't spend money in the transfer window.

Wont' affect it, so still expect no transfer spending

Confirms we'll continue to spend nothing.

Thing is... if the plan was to spend a very minimal amount anyway, then he's not technically lying.

I'm sure there was SOME money available, but in practice that wasn't really worth much when there would be no squad space until non-homegrown players were shifted out. No way Spurs were going to keep a bunch of non-homegrown players on the books, earning a wage while never playing.

So really, whether there was £1m or £100m to spend was irrelevant until some of the foreign deadwood was shipped out. Which didn't happen, as we know. Meaning that the only players Spurs could bring in were homegrown ones, like Grealish, but there weren't really any on offer of a decent enough standard.

That's my reading, anyway. I'm sure the stadium HAS affected the transfer budget in the past, insofar as the club has had to budget for stadium and transfer costs and presumably the budget for transfers has always been a bit restricted due to the stadium costs. I'm sure he's being genuine when he says that the transfer fund hasn't changed, though, since it will have been ring-fenced.

We’ve barely spent a thing in a decade (net) so he’s probably right.

Our model is we sell to buy.

PL clubs can expect annual payments of at least £120m before a single ball is kicked.

Easiest it's ever been to manage a long-term stadium mortgage.

“We have a certain amount we want to invest in the team, and if we sell players that amount increases”

It then goes on to list a number of players we were happy to sell, but couldn’t.

Has there ever been a more obvious crock of schit. We have literally watched the opposite happen over the past year.

Levy has always maintained that the stadium debt (inflated though it is) is covered by a different pot to that of transfers and I don't think he's lying about that. Our transfer dealings have always been run on a net spend basis (a modest pot + player sales) and Levy has constantly emphasized sustainable growth as the important factor in the club's development.

What I do think it does, as Ace pointed out, is limit us in the next couple of years - it pushes back the day that we can increase the size of that initial transfer pot with the increased revenue from the stadium.

It's one of the few truthful things he's said. If he said it was affecting transfers then I'd assume he was lying.

With Season Tickets soon to be renewed, it's pretty obvious he's going to say this.

He said the exact same thing last summer.

The argument "we couldn't find anyone with enough quality", or "they weren't the right fit" doesn't sit with me. Either we have no scouting network, or the scouts we do have, need replacing!

Yep. Im sure the likes of Eriksen and Toby being sold this summer will mean a couple of signings at their expense. Few others moved on too, last summer we didnt sell anyone either.

He is lying of course it will affect transfers and has it will.

Assuming Spurs manage to offload Alderweireld, Lamela, Wanyama, Vorm, Eriksen, N'Koudou, Llorente Janssen and Aurier... by my count that leaves a squad of 16, of which only 9 are non-homegrown.

So that would mean Spurs could bring in up to 9 new players, 8 of which could be foreign.

sell 6 or 7. buy correctly 5 or 6. but we will run it down late into the window, sell Eriksen last minute and not replace him properly. Signing a few randomers.

Team will take 3-4 months to "gell", title race is over by December, rumours start about our best players leaving/not signing new contracts.

Rinse and repeat.

What Levy really means, is that the stadium will not affect the budget for new players, but failed to mention the budget is fack all.

On a side note, does anyone know if our first fixture at the new stadium against Crystal Palace will be televised? As it wasn't selected for TV prior to the announcement, I'm not sure of the legalities of now adding it to the list.
