To be fair to Benitez, I think he got rid of any bad blood between the fans in the end.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I'd have to disagree with that!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It eased because he announced he was leaving sl our energy shifted onto getting top 4 and moving on.

He was only ever appointed until the end of the season.

If you think it eased, you probably never sat in the MH stand.

After the Boro game when he had that rant, before then there was rumours going round Roman was happy with him and wanted hum to stay.

Nah Benitez is cool, I forgave him ages ago. And you can't help but respect what he's doing at Newcastle, you just can't.

The gentlemen comment was just laughable though. A true gentlemen would've apologized for those comments before a single question was asked in his first press conference. Address it, move on. Not rant about it three months later when he knew he'd get backlash for it.

Tbf didn't Eto'o and Fabregas say things about us just as bad but we forgave them quick enough

I can't imagine Ash had particular pleasent thought about us as a Gooner kid either.

Roman may well have been happy for it but the fact remains he was signed as an interim measure and Roman knew the fans would not fully embrace him - Benitez knew it as well!

Also didn't help that he was replacing RDM. It furthered a belief at the time that our board were at a complete disconnect with the fanbase. Then they rehired Mourinho and it's not really been a problem since, their general incompetence is the main issue

I know this'll be a divisive opinion, and I do completely agree with you, from the fans prospective it was never gunna be easy, but I do think Benitez was the right guy at the right time for a purely managerial standpoint. We were far too open under RDM, you could feel the results were only gunna get more erratic (IMO) and with the knowledge we'd almost certainly be in the Europa we were facing a fixture congestion pile up from hell with a very thin squad that year. Benitez was a defensive minded manager known for his effective use of rotation. It did make sense.

Not true. A lot of our strikers down the years have had the excuse of not getting the service (in some cases it was true) but that's 100% the case with Higuain.

He doesn't contribute much to the build up but that's not who he is, we knew that going in, but there's nothing wrong with his movement. I love that quick turn he does on the last defender, he reads the line/pass so well. Very elegant player.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Really DDA? So why do they have similar records with us? And why was Higuain’s scoring so average at Milan while Piatek is now banging them in? Higgy has had a few chances in good positions that he has missed, the same as Morata. I agree we are not a team built for strikers but why doesn’t/didn’t that count for Morata and Giroud and not for Higuain
------------------------------------------------------------
His finishing his been hit and miss, but again that's something we knew going in - one of the biggest criticisms of him his entire career is he'll score beauties, either through great strikes or leaving defenders for dead, then he'll miss chances you wouldn't expect him too.

I'm realistic with him. I was very pessimistic about bringing him in, and maybe it's because the bar is so low with our strikers, but I'm just happy we have a striker who understands how to move like a striker. That spin movement he does on the last defender is beautiful - real striker stuff
----------------------------------------------------------------------
He has good movement but then so did Morata unless he was having a day where he was very low on confidence.

Truly thinking about it i think the CL and to a lesser extent the FA Cup was Robbie's good karma for his injury raveged career here, the fact winning both fecked Spurs up so bad (the team he had a Drogba/Arsenal like hold on as a player) only fuels that theory.

I love him but he's not a very good manager, something he's aptly demonstrated since. I'm sure in his heart Roman was as disgusted as us doing the RDM/Rafa switch, but as a Swansea fan who became a board member said, to run a successful club your head must rule your heart.

It was the Solskjaer effect. Solskjaer's not a fantastic manager, his biggest asset to those United players right now is the fact he's not Mourinho. With the spine we had at that time, with the desire so many players had within that team to win the CL after so many near misses, anyone not named Andre Villas-Boas was gunna succeed in that position. Credit where it's due, he got the tactics spot on, but the motivation was always gunna be there.

I dunno about the second paragraph. I'm pretty sure Roman never wanted him tbh, was looking for any excuse to sack him whether it would've been the right call or not. I personally think choose Benitez once he made the call because he know Jose was a done deal and their tactical philosophies are similar, was a purpose driven transition move (and I just believe it coincidentally fit the circumstances on the pitch).

Devils i mean like as a Chelsea fan he would have wanted to give Robbie a shot, but as a businessman who needed to think with his head he knew that Robbie wasn't good enough.

I can never prove this but i think appointing Robbie full time was a lot down to the fact he didn't want to sour the "summer in the sun" post Munich, had we appointed Rafa days after it would have been like the CL win never happened

If it was any other club I would say they are absolutely facked and will be mid table soon enough but because it’s Chelsea you just know they will win the league next season with John Terry and the ghost of Hitler guiding them to victory

I hope they find the second coming of Ian Porterfield to follow sorryball

He was dreadful at the Bridge. The least fun time supporting Chelsea with the exception of that loser Rafa
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Rafa was by far the best man you have ever had associated with you club, mate.

Only when we were smashing his Liverpool sides.

He was rubbish manager who took us from 2 points off united to 20 points behind in three months

During that period he also blew the easiest ever World Club Championship, a Carling Cup semi v Swansea (with Bradford in final). Nearly got us knocked out by Brentford in FA Cup.

We gave away two goal leads v Reading Saints Newcastle.

Gave away leads to West Ham and Spurs

Lost at home to bottom side QPR for first time in 30 years.

Lost to Rubin Kazan and Steau in Europa League.

Embarrased ourself in Amsterdam, our worst ever performance in a major final but we fluked a win.

Only matched by the worst ever home games at the Bridge: 0-0 v Fulham and City

Player power took over and saw us get top four in the end.

People look at the final finishing position and Europa League with Benitez but he was poor as a manager. A better manager would have won the Club world cup and League cup that year with ease considering the runs we had in those competitions. Top 4 should NOT have been as close run as it was either.
