Harry beware

Re the Vydra / Vardy anagram, well spotted Dunge. I'd also noticed that at the time that the former was performing noticeably better than the latter and had wished we had the Czech. How times change!

This is why we need to play a back 3 Dunge. To protect Maguire.

But you have been an advocate of a back 3 for a while so I’m preaching to the converted.

Is Maguire a big enough asset to demand a whole other person next to him for when he doesn't look over his shoulder or drop off when an opponent gets the chance to look up in the midfield?

posted on 21/3/19

Well he’s got Morgan for another 12 months for that role, helps both of them.

Depends if you rate his ability on the ball and ability to step forward as a big enough asset.

And the fact that a back 3 is tactically superior to 4 obviously.

Putting aside the stupidity of announcing....

Perhaps a ruse, and they’ll target elsewhere. Otherwise it’s daft.

Shhhh! Stop talking about Harry's defensive frailties and focus instead on his ball control and brave forays up to the opponent's penalty box.

We still want to be able to flog him in the summer to United for ££££££.

£65 million now being quoted with Utd still interested, BR also bring Benkovic back from Celtic much to their disappointment after he’s had a good Season up there so we might have a ready made replacement.

Yes, occasionally Harry doesn't look around enough and sometimes plays a dodgy ball putting a teammate under pressure.
But, his assets far outweigh his negatives. He can look slow when he get's turned. Probably more to do with the fact that he is a big unit. On his forays going forward he can be quite pacey. I wouldn't say he is slow.

Anyway, we could have been lumbered with Michael Keane. Now, he does daydream. Many attacking players get in behind him as he ball-watches a lot.
So glad we didn't pay the reported £25-30 million for him. He hasn't improved that side of his game in 3 seasons.

Back 3 of Benkovic, Soyuncu & Maguire with 2 wing-backs in Chilwell & Ricardo? Harry to be in the centre slightly forward of the other 2 as he brings the ball out more. Will Evans feature regularly next season? Not sure? Depends on how good the 2 foreign guys step up.

Will Vydra get nailed now? Keep your cool Harry.

PTP - by the way Rodgers is talking about Evans, I don’t think he’s going anywhere!

Soyuncu May be the May yo head out on loan next year.

FFS! May be the man to head out on loan

posted on 22/3/19

Well, this hasn’t worked out well for Vydra. 5-0 and Maguire’s just cropped him.

Fabulous performance by Stirling tonight
3 seasons ago £20 million would have
Been generous for him,
But now confident, with a good manager and training playing with that squad every day
Such a difference,
100 million??

I have seen a couple of articles that suggest that our Slabhead will move to Man U at the end of the season. Sad but inevitable if this were to happen. I wouldn't blame him for going.

Maguire leaving might not be a disaster dependant upon how well we replace him or the readiness of the likes of Benkovic to step up.

It also might mean that Soyuncu isn’t the May Yo Head.

I wouldn't be averse to selling Harry.

Don't get me wrong, very happy we've got him and he's a good quality CB for us, but he's not brilliant defensively and were Man U to offer £65M for him, that's a great deal for us, take it and move on - he's not irreplaceable.

posted on 23/3/19

His biggest asset to the team is when he moves forward as an attacking midfielder,,
That we will miss and properly organised corners set peices he can be useful / deadly

But as a traditional centre half / defender
He's above average but nothing special

But in a better team and playing with vandike sp? Could step up his game

Hey, I don’t want to be a “kn0b in your head”. Sounds quite unpleasant.

The 1st time I read your post I wondered whether he had a penchant for Mayonnaise or something. A bit of a harsh reason to send him out on loan.

On Maguire I would still exercise caution. We’ve done really well to evolve the team away from Morgan and Huth to a new era. Our ability to do that looked a worry for a while.

But I always find that players reputations seem to grow higher when they’re not in the team. Benkovic and Soyuncu are being held up as reasons why we don’t need Maguire, but I’d like to see an awful lot more of them before I was confident that was the case.

At the moment Maguire and Evans look a decent partnership. Certainly better than Maguire and Morgan. I also think Morgan looks more comfortable with Evans than he does Maguire. So we have a decent starting two and decent back up from Morgan and the younger two.

It might be preferable if we had Maguire for at least one more season as Morgan is transitioned out and the new breed comes in.

Admittedly, I suppose that could leave Soyuncu eating Mayonnaise elsewhere.

Benkovic is the next Maldini Joby. Nothing to do with the fact I’ve never seen him play and he’s not in the team. Purely to do with the fact he’s incredible.

I have a lot of doubts about Soyuncu. He seems good on the ball but defensively frail. Bit like maguire 🙃

As always I respect your judgement completely Mersey.

On that basis I’m happy for Maguire to go and look forward to Benkovic being talked about as potentially the first £200m defender in n a year’s time.

Apparently we’ve put a £90 million price tag on Harry, I think everyone should know our Owners don’t mess about, pay up or walk on.
