Hope they get battered, and that Theresa May lookalike can sit there picking his whinnets and eat them/sniff them to his hearts content
You're right, this is unknown territory for German Football. They've reached a QF every world cup since I started watching, including the final one year after we beat them 5-1.
I'm sure they'll qualify but they have next to no chance of winning Euro 2020 imho.
I watched the Serbia game. It was not a good performance against an improving Serbian side.
They have a lot of talented young players but many of them lack the experience to cope with the high expectations atm. Sule and Tah do not look like a good partnership at the back.

I think Low has been there too long personally
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Agree with that. Should have gone after the World Cup, shocked he even got through the Nations League unscathed.
Now he is in charge of a new generation, when it seems to make more sense bringing in a new boss.
I agree with most of the post - though it does seem to be a golden age for German coaches. Klopp, that guy at Saints and the one at Hoffenheim at the moment.
Plus my outside bet for the Europe league - Eintracht Frankfurt look very very good. Some of the best counter attacking football I’ve seen in years
Right now German football is as you say poor but they’ll be back - they always are
Germany will be back, but I guess the real question is whether Low is the man to get them back?
I thought Ozil withdrew himself?
You still wouldn't bet against them winning another international tournament before England do.
They have a few talented players coming through, though I do think a change in coach is needed rather than just playing personal.
There has been a huge scapegoating of players, such as Ozil, and the trio that have been left out and even the City player.
If anything, they need to do what they did when they had an issue before and revamped their side and football.
I remember Germany having a downturn in the late 90s to early 2000s with that 5 - 1 defeat at home to England being seen as the peak of their humiliation.
Even through that dark time they still reached a World Cup final. it's very rare Germany are out of the picture for too long. It is simply in their DNA to bounce back even with weaker teams than before.
I agree this seems more of an unprecedented territory though.
I don't think Low is going to last much longer though, he's had a very good run however. Not many managers last as long as he has at international level, especially the major nations.

Yeah, with two shocking Euros either side of that final. No wins in those two as well - including an embarrassing 0-0 with Latvia and defeat to England.
Wouldn't be shocked if they won Euro 2020, tbf. But Low will either have to finds solutions quickly or go.

Similar to Anelka retiring before being banned from playing for France.

Exactly, such was the concern from EURO 2004 there was genuine fear that Germany would flop on their turf at World Cup 2006, conversely we actually saw a rebirth of Germany at that tournament which cumilated in the 2014 win.
Haven't read the article but what Germany is missing is a leader like Harry Kane. A true winner. Someone that is winning trophies year in year out at club level and brings that success to the national team.
I can see why they're giving Low a bit of time. Although arguably Klinsmann started bring the next generation through in 2006, Low definitely contributed to that and shaped them into World Champions.
His record in the big tournaments is pretty impressive aside from 2018.
In 2008 and 2010 his team lost to Spain (finals and semis respectively) but losing to that Spanish team is no disgrace.
Won the CL in 2014 and lost in the semis to France in 2016 but that was a good French team and they were hosts.
Arguably the only poor result aside from 2018 was losing to Italy in 2012 in the semi. Germany had the better team and probably should have won.
I tend to agree that it feels like he's been there too long but I also think he brought through one generation successfully, perhaps his record suggests he should be given an opportunity to repeat the trick. And Germany still have some excellent players - ter Stegen, Kimmich, Goretzka, Sane should all be coming into their prime years. Kroos and Reus are still under 30 and the likes of Brandt are exciting. I'm not overly convinced by Werner yet but they've got enough talent to build a team around.
Also how will it affect England going into games against Germany and Spain etc being favourites? The opposition will adapt and not let England pull off counter attack shocks like against Spain. The expectation will change as well within the media. The world cup was a free shot as no one expected anything. England are now expected to win the Euros and teams like Germany, Spain and Italy don't have the expectations.

Germany were due a dodgy tournament at some point. There's been times from around 2000-2006ish where they looked very average in qualifying but got their act together for the major tourney.
I think Lowe trying to adopt a more Spanish style hasn't helped as players have gotten older. Obviously it was great when they were at their peak but it's a style that small mistakes are punished, compared to the formerly pragmatic 'efficient' German style that could paper over some cracks in terms of the players actual abilities.
I doubt they'll be down for long though.
Yeah the recovered Netherlands is the real test tonight where we stand. I think we have a good young team all in all. What we lack at the moment is a goalscorer and both FB position are weak for a while.
Never thought that Löw is the right man for this position. He came in and inherited an already good team. He was right there at the right time. That's all. A bit like Pep inherited a very good team at Barcelona and he was there for the fine tuning.
It's time that he goes.

If they want a real leader they need someone like Rooney. Someone who has stepped up to the plate in every international tournament they've played in, by scoring goals for fun, and sometimes singlehandedly lifting the team when struggling against teams in the knock out stages.
