The Wanda Metropolitano apparently only cost Atletico 250m Euros.
67,000 seats too. That's quite a bit cheaper than the New WHL.
I suppose that shows the upside to selling naming rights of a stadium. 1/4 of the price you lot paid.
Having had a look inside yesterday, I don’t think the overall experience is as good as St James Park, and you can get to St James Park quicker from central London than to WHL

To be fair, the £1bn figure will include all land bought, the hotel, all the houses that are being built etc.
Not sure how much the physical stadium on its own cost.

Defo...... would love to know the kind of numbers Levy is asking for the naming rights. Granted building costs on the outskirts of Madrid would be a lot cheaper than a built up part of London. I bet levy is asking for at least 200-300mln

London prices comes to mind. Should have built the new Wembley in the midlands somewhere and saved a fortune.
Would you guys not prefer what we've done at Anfield and rebuilding OT stand by stand? Just keeps the feel of the stadium rather than NWHL and the Emirates which are quite soulless.

We have sort of done that already. We were way ahead of the curve compared to Liverpool. North stand was done in the mid 90's. Amazing to think that stand is now 20 odd years old. Stretty and East Stand have also had upper tiers added since then.
South stand is the tricky one. We have the train line behind it which makes it difficult.

WHL always had a good atmosphere, the capacity has doubled, the stadium is in exactly the same place & the club has done everything possible (One massive home stand, stands steep and close to the pitch & high tech acoustics) to make it a great atmosphere. You can complain about the cost & delays but not the finished product
Plus it looks like the Millennium falcon !!!!

Perhaps I will, will definitely get a better perspective once I've seen a game in the stadium but there are very few new stadiums that are partially interesting.
Very nice, don't get me wrong, such as the Wanda which I think is the best stadium built in a long time, but quite unoriginal.
Bit of a buzzkill for Levy/Spurs that their first match there won't be televised, City vs Cardiff is on instead. Obviously it will be shown in other countries though you'd think.

Not fussed at all that it isn’t on t v as I’ve got a season ticket so will be there.
I’m going to the legends game on Saturday so will get my first look at it.
Fair play to levy for getting it built and with the atmosphere high on the agenda and making sure us fans are still close to the pitch unlike the emirates.
You beat me to it OP, I was going to do exactly the same article later.
The WHL stadium got a great write up in the Guardian yesterday, I probably won't get to see it, but will stand them in good stead for decades.
Generally I like the new stadiums, more comfortable, great view from anywhere, and safer.
Re OT, yes I think we need a new one, I had a season ticket for the 'new stand' in 1965 I think it was. That makes it over fifty years old, also our stadium is the Asda of stadiums, the first of its type, the biggest, but not necessarily the best.
I think a new one is called for, agree same name, and I would say no more than 80,000. A full stadium is better than one with lots of empty seats imo.
