Don't know why people are so sure City will win every game. If they can lose to Palace and Leicester, why can't they lose other games between now and the end? They could drop points to us or United. They have the FA Cup and the CL to contend with as well. It's still going to be really tough for them, just as it would for Liverpool.

The idea both will win all their remaining games is highly unlikely.

I think it’s inevitable we’ll drop points in at least one game. The question is more whether Liverpool will too. That goal that gave them the win on Sunday was huge.

The fact you have two teams hitting 90 points just shows how poor a league it is in general.

The teams in 3-6 are decent enough, and European results have generally supported that they are good teams, although I don't think anyone would claim these sides are great teams.

7-10 are a bit meh.

The rest are atrocious.

It's a poor quality EPL this season and it's been going that way for a while. The gap between the big teams and the fodder is growing.

Spot on. There is some terrible crap from around West Ham downwards who could all easily go down to the championship and look like they belong there.

Interesting why this has happened as most if not all the Prem teams are mega rich compare to other top teams abroad like say Porto, PSV, Ajax, Fenebahce etc and should be doing much better. So many of them seem to just accept defeat against the big 6 (apart from a notable few like Watford, Wolves & Everton)

Rex is put the curse on City. Can see Cardiff nicking a point now.

Obviously all in City's hands.

I'm a big believer that the money is in many ways a curse for your lower teams. They are too busy searching for the short-term fixes rather than investing properly and building their clubs up.

The answer should be youth and if you look at English youth sides they are bursting with talent. But the clubs won't take the chance on them (or at least not all of them, and not often enough).

English football should be about to burst into a golden age with the talent you have, but they're not getting chances. It's a shame (and I say that as a Scotsman who has no interest in you winning trophies at international level ).

Rex is so desperate for us to lose and it becomes more and more apparent with every comment he makes.

He was gutted when we got the opening goal against his local rivals on Sunday

Given the fixture list I really cant see City winning all their games. Saying that maybe it'll be the cups that they falter in.

If Liverpool can beat Chelsea I fancy us in the other games.

Southampton away will probably be a trickier fixture than facing us atm.

posted on 3/4/19

Yeah suggestions that teams that have already beaten them may beat them are laughable. Face it, either team could potentially drop points in any game.

Everyone knows that English football is currently operating in a bubble.

The entire pyramid is run by owners keeping their loss-making clubs on life support with money from outside football. You would be hard pressed to find 5 clubs at any league level turning a profit when this year's accounts come out. Most of these investments are simply "pump and dump" schemes to maintain or increase future resale value.

There's almost always a report of a club having a hearing at Companies House every week nowadays. These are clubs ranging from blue-chip names in the Championship, right down to non-League sides like North Ferriby (the latter eventually being wound up for liabilities totalling to less than £8k)

I wouldn't worry about English talent just yet. Won't be long before the inflated market corrects itself and forces clubs to rely on local talent.

Agree re-fixture list.

In the next 43 days City have a definite 11 games, potentially 13 if they make it through to the CL semis.

That could be a game every 3.3 days and (at least) 2 games a week for the next 6 weeks. Not just normal games either but CL QFs, an FA semi and the Manchester derby.

I'm not saying City can't win every game because they have the best squad in Britain, arguably Europe, but it's a huge challenge both mentally and physically.

Liverpool have a different sort of pressure to overcome, 29 years of it. Personally I'd argue that just looking at the teams faced by either team is just part of the story.

If City win the league with all the fixtures they're due to play then they'll deserve all the plaudits that come their way.

We will just have to wait and see, won't we?

Most of the accounts released last year were terrible. And there's been an overall increase in wages/player fees without a significant corresponding increase in revenues.

Top of my head Utd, Liverpool, Southampton, Burnley, Huddersfield, Bournemouth and Watford all make a profit in the Prem.

.......And Arsenal somehow managed to balance the books through a whopping £120m in player sales.

I'd expect the likes of United and Liverpool to be OK. But the rest of the clubs on that list will have to get very creative with their accounting.

posted on 3/4/19

Nah. The Prem is full of well run, orgsnised smaller outfits who coin it. Then you have the teams that get relegated but are prudent such as Wrst Brom who pick up paracute payments.

Thats why people keep buying English clubs, the money to be made is huge.

posted on 3/4/19

But then you have the Bolton example, and I fear more and more clubs, through mismanagement and poor results, will fall into that trap.

posted on 3/4/19

Bolton have been in trouble for years now.

I think we'll see that situation less and less just due to better regulation.
