What football are you wanting to watch? Where about are you staying? The National Museum of Scotland is worth a visit. Take a wander up Calton Hill or Arthur's seat for sunset.

It is mainly Hearts pubs west of Haymarket. Diggers, The Golden Rule and McCowans good for football around there. Malone's, Ryrie's, Platform 5 and The Haymarket around Haymarket station are decent for football.

In town the Standing Order is good for football if you are pond scuum, which I am. It is a big wetherspoons. The Amber Rose on Rose Street. The Grosvenor to the west of Princes street. Lots of places.

The Heriot Watt and Edinburgh Uni CSC meet in Dropkick Murphy's, which is near the National Museum of Scotland. They should still have a decent atmosphere even although some will be at the game, some will be on their Easter holidays, and the rest of the lazy b@st@rds will still be in their scratchers until half-time.

Otherwise, there are plenty pubs around town that will have the games on.

It is good if you want that genuine football match feel of being crammed in with people who do not wash, especially if you are a Celtic fan. No offence (loads of offence)

Never mind all that tourist nonsense, get yourself out to the Artful Dodger pub at the Sighthill shopping centre next to Wester Hailes, football on plentiful TVs and the patrons are of the "interesting" variety, I'll buy yeh a pint

If not the city centre is pretty much self contained and has everything you might want tae do, you've managed to avoid the Festival period and all those vanky Uni "actors" fcking hate getting sneaked up on by some nippy mime artist who's auld man runs a merchant bank

I've been in there. There's also one in Oxgangs that is pretty good. Dickens on Dalry road, The Central Bar in Leith and The Grapes on S Clark st can also compete with it.
