My favourite place, both to work and for holidays.
What's a 'stone certain penalty.'?
How come your mate Keogh did really really well.? What does he create.? What threat does he pose.?But Cole did well despite not having any defending to do.? Cole was outstanding. I doubt he envisaged the twilight of his incredible career playing alongside Richard Keogh
Your bias in favor of our failure of a captain, is ridiculous.
What 'problems did Lawrence cause.? He had another dreadful game. Just watch him next time. Watch him off the ball. See what he does. Watch Cole, watch him off the ball. See the difference in what is an educated, intelligent, natural footballer. Then watch Keogh.
I hope Cole doesn't retire, he's absolute quality.

AJ, You have some very interesting opinions to which you are certainly entitled to hold. I thought Cole had a better game and you (I) could see his class. But Keogh had a great game - in my opinion. He saved a goal several times by his blocks, his tackles and his pace across the ground. And yes Cole IS in the twilight of a really great career and I bet you are right (If he ever thought about it which I doubt) about him not playing alongside Richard Keogh. But I don't see how that changes the quality and effectiveness of Keogh. Keogh did not put a foot wrong last Saturday - but then the opposition wasn't brilliant was it?
And, a separate topic that you picked up on. A stone certain penalty - is a penalty - an offence committed - in this case by two defenders, blocking off and pulling back Waghorn against the rules of the game. I think you must be the only person who read my summary who did not understand what was meant. You got out of bed the wrong side I think AJ. Happens to us all.
Oh and - back to Keogh - There are many managers who also think Keogh is a good defender, Frank Lampard included and he too praised Keogh for his performance.
I just voted for Keogh as Player of the Year.
The only other candidate that deserves it is Tomori, but I couldn't get past him not actually being a Derby player.
Must admit that another incentive was to pi55 critics like AJ and others off
Can't think of any other critics
As I pointed out, first game we haven't lost when Cole has started. Played 5 lost 4. He played better on Saturday but he really is only cover.
I see Keogh week after week keeping the defence together, dropping the occasional clanger but still one of the best central defenders in the Championship. Pity some try to fit what they see to their prejudiced opinion rather judging each performance on merit.
Lawrence made Mount's second goal with a run at the defenders. He doesn't contribute enough but definitely does make a contribution.
I have heard of a stonewall penalty. Not a stone certain penalty.
Listen, because I don't agree with you about King Keogh and pretty boy Lawrence, doesn't mean I got out the bed the wrong side. One decent pass he made on Saturday and people on here think he's a world beater. He consistently turns in below average performances.
Ask yourself this, if we make the Premier League, (which we won't yet again this season) would you want Keogh as one of your key players. I think the answer is quite clearly no. Be interesting, or not, to anylise all the blocks and tackles you mention. I must go to Pride Park blindfolded.
Anyway, at least I've added another dozen comments to your otherwise dull and oh so nice article.
By the way, renewed my season ticket for the 35th time earlier this month, so don't dismiss my opinion as if I'm some sort of casual observer.
Is a stone certain penalty even more of a penalty than just a certain penalty, or a stonewall penalty? It's so blatantly obvious it's a penalty that either of those don't do it justice, and so there has to be a combining of the two to make stone certain. Is there an upgrade on this? How about incorporating "nailed on" in there, you could have nailed stone certain penalty.
I thought Cole was poor first half and very good second half. At half time I said to my lads that if you didn’t know who he was you would think he was just a bog standard left back. In the second half I thought he looked what he is, one of the best left backs England has produced.
But this is just my opinion. I don’t state it as fact. I also think that Keogh and Tomori have been easily our most consistent performers. I would have Tomori as my player of the year because I think he might have star quality but I reckon Keogh has made fewer mistakes. Nearly every other player has such a range of performance, from a 9/10 to a 2 or 3, but it is very rare that Keogh has a stinker, in my opinion. Were the rest of the team as consistent we would be doing better than we are, this is the problem. Lawrence has plenty of variability, as does Mount, Wilson, Waghorn, Bryson, Johnson, Bogle, Malone, Uncle Tom Cobley etc.
Ramdini, thanks for your articles which along with View’s give us a forum to chat on. Not great to be criticised for making the effort.
Tomori is the only contender for player of the season. Wilson, possibly, Mount, maybe. Bogle in with a shout. I would rank Roos above Keogh. I think it's hilarious that Keogh is mentioned in the same breath as player of the season. Ever present, yes, committed, yes. Does he ever get booked, no, does he score goals, err, no, skillful, no, wanted by any other club in six years, no. Player of the season.? Christ no.
Shouldn't player of the season be someone who has punched consistently above their weight in the team, (exceeded expectations)?
Without trying to stir the shiite (honestly), I think Roos is a good shout?
Roos has only played in about half of the games, maybe fewer. It’s rare for it to go to a player who hasn’t played in the majority of games. I don’t know why punching above the weight should be the criterion, it’s called player of the season so it’s whichever player has played best over the course of the whole season. I would be very surprised if Tomori didn't it win by a mile.
OK Tomori fits the criterion vidal, I agree, but not him not being a Derby player probably won't do him any favours.
You could be right Scouse. Has a loanee ever won it? Leon Osman maybe deserved to but I can’t remember if he scooped the top spot.
So Keogh wins because he looks after himself, doesn't get injured and applauds supporters. Don't blame him. If I was as untalented as he is and crowds were chanting my name, I'd be clapping them too.
Vidal, don't forget to tell Jeeves to pick me up in the Bentley en-route to St Andrews on Friday.
I'm OK to sit in the front if you prefer (and its only about 130 miles out of your way in each direction).
Lampard seems to rate Keogh though, as have previous managers. Curious that, AJ. Maybe they have seen other qualities than the ones you list. It certainly seems a more likely alternative than that they all know a lot less about it than yourself.
From 1968/69, winners were McFarland, O’Hare, MacKay, Todd, Webster, Daniel, George. I think we can maybe all agree they were worthy of the honour. And a great variety of types, from some of the all-time greats to the relative journeymen. Whoever wins it this season and in any season deserves congratulation from anyone who calls him or herself a supporter, it’s a great achievement.
Imagine having the equivalent of McFarland, Todd & Charlie George in the team now?
Maybe we'd all be at the Nou Camp tonight?
Scouse, I am travelling by locomotive on Friday. Rather than spoiling him with a day off I shall take my chauffeur and instruct him to go and encourage the lackey who shovels in the coal so that we make good progress. From New Street I intend to walk to Bordesley Green which will be something of a safari I expect.
I'm on the train too vidal, we have elektrickery ones here now.
Are you going for a pre-fight beer?
Last season in Brum after alighting the train the coppers INSISTED (it was either this or arrest) that we got a taxi to the ground. Otherwise we would get beat up. Seriously.
It was utter carnage as EVERY DCFC fan had to flag a taxi or get an Uber. We were late.
I don’t know if there any safe hostelries around there Scouse. Maybe somewhere near the station. I went to a midweek match at St Andrews in the 80s and saw some horrible street battles. Maybe that has prejudiced me but there has always seemed to be a higher proportion of Neanderthals there than at most grounds.
