Mahrez

You mention a very valid point regarding the laboured pedestrian style played under Puel and the fact that Brendan seems to have found a quick fix to resolve this, that said Friday night we returned to the slow game, probably because Newcastle played their counter game to perfection and all credit to them for the execution of a perfect game plan.

Wouldn't say no to a Mahrez loan move or maybe a cheeky say £15 Mil bid

I quite like the Ricardo/Albrighton combination on the right hand side, in that each can cover the other to an extent and also in that each provides a different sort of threat going forward. If we were to keep Teilemans then I think having someone like Mahrez in that position is less of a requirement. As for Gray, he has come on a bit this year, but again not really enough. He still doesn't really seem able to grab a game by the scruff of the neck at this level.

Mahrez at Man City is a conundrum, and it'll be interesting to see whether Pep can make any more of him next season. The reports I've seen from Man City fans recently suggest that he's low on confidence and constantly passing backwards to Kyle Walker, much like we experience watching Ghezzal. I wonder whether the expectations placed on players under Pep's regime - where you have to be switched on for 90 minutes in both defence and attack and can't afford a break or else you get subbed - is too much for him. At Leicester he got to zone out occasionally and then switch it on when we went on the attack. There's still time for him but perhaps he's incapable of adapting to the intensity required at the very top level?

I don’t think he has the legs for Pep’s regime Dunge. Not in that they’re like two chopsticks, more in that he just isn’t the type of player that can get up and down the pitch all game. He’s also incapable of staying switched on which will infuriate a manager.

What I will say is that he’s not playing his natural game now. We allowed him to do that. Now he’s fallen in to the Ndidi trap of overthinking everything rather than playing his natural game.

I guess my question is also asking whether Man City will want him anymore. I’m not sure they will as he just doesn’t seem to have adapted to their style, and they sure as won’t adapt to him.

I think he'll likely end up as a bit-part player for them unfortunately, unable to move because they'd have to accept a loss on him that would hit them square in the FFPs. (That seems to be the way accounting works at football clubs these days.)

Surely that makes a nice loan deal work for both parties no?

I can't imagine it exciting Mahrez. Just imagine him turning back up in the dressing room, loaned back from Man City, then imagine what wisecrack might come out of Jamie Vardy's mouth.

Despite his limitations, Albrighton remains our only proven performer at this level. The problem is that he’s a consistent 6 or 7 out of ten (or even a 6.5 ), but doesn’t provide that inspirational moment of quality that can make the difference in tight games. That’s why he was such a good balance with Mahrez. On one side the consistent, hard-working, team player who rarely let you down. On the other a sulky, wandering, peripheral player who’d suddenly unlock a defence with a moment of inspired quality.

Without Mahrez we need someone else to step up. Barnes might one day, but he isn’t ready to be our no. 1 starter really and should be learning his trade with more occasional starts or another loan spell. Gray is what I would describe as a “nearly player”. He looks like he could be decent if he added that extra 10%, but I’m doubtful he’ll ever have the football intelligence to do so.

So we either muddle through with Gray, hope that Barnes develops fast, move someone else into a wide forward position (Maddison) or sign someone. Personally I’d like to see what we could do in the transfer market. We’d probably need to pay decent money, but how about cashing in on Gray to get some funds? I reckon we might be able to get upwards of £20-25m for Gray, which would be pretty good for a player who might be at the limit of his potential.

Mahrez? I’m really not sure on that one. Whilst I’d love to see him back in a darker shade of blue it’s one of those where you perhaps shouldn’t go back. Part of what made him so great in 2015/16 is that he was part of a perfect storm of players complimenting each other in a unique style. We’ll never be able to create that and we probably need to be thinking about building our squad as a whole rather than building it to accommodate individuals – especially as his 15/16 teammates become fewer and fewer. And besides – Diabate and Bapustka are going to return as world beaters .

Ricardo could play wide right - actually his original position. And then bring in a right-back who can defend. 👍

In terms of bringing back former popular players who play out wide. Why don't we bring Anthony Knockaert back? Especially if Brighton go down.

A player who I know Dunge rates as: "Premier League ready"

Out of the stadium, King power,
We’d watched you lead out team,
You had a temper, like my arrogance,
Too hot, too greedy,
How could they sack you,
When they needed to respect you?
I hated you, I loved you too.

Bad dreams in the night,
They told me you and McArther had a fight,
Leave behind, my wuthering, wuthering wuthering heights

Pearson,
It’s me, oh Johngee,
I’ve come home now,
Let me in through your (pub) window

Leicester,
It’s me oh Johngee,
I’ve come back now,
Supporting Chelsea became so so!

That serious? He looks more limited than a gray on an off day. Knows how to tackle though 😳

Pheeeeeeewwwwww Joby. I was worried we weren’t the same person for a few moments there!

Joby - I'm warning you. I've already shifted Morgan up to an 8. Don't make me go to a 9.

Mersey - If JohnGee actually performed that, all would be forgiven.

That’s ok with me Dunge - but you might hear an explosion over Nuneaton sometime soon.

We would have won the league by March 2016 and set a record if Mahrez was any good at penalties

'Time for my controversial Monday morning article. Waiting for Nev to step back up but until he does I’ll do my best...…………... '

I may have been dreaming or even just not paying a great deal of attention to last night's moan in but I think Nev was on it and someone mentioned getting married this weekend? If so it may explain why he isn't giving this forum the full attention it deserves at present!

Nev’s getting married?

To Johngee?

What a time to be alive. All the best Nev and good luck converting John back to being a Leicester fan.

Last week he was trying to get pipes to agree that we should go back to two defensive midfielders, pipes just laughed him off.
