Out of interest, how many matches did Wenger win out of his last 50?

Good question.

Definitely won 0:1 against Huddersfield.

How can there even be any EOB's... Whatever happens in the next few weeks he's done very well with the squad we have.

I stay at the real 50 cents gaff quite regularly, he lives in the same complex as my best bud in NYC.

And yeah, Unai Emery will do a good job given time.

Dunno about that, mate.

Apparently someone here told Godfather any other manager would walk the league with Wenger's squad. That seems to be the benchmark now.

Well, apart from Wenger.

Joking apart, I think this just goes to show the different climate Emery and Wenger found themselves in starting out at Arsenal.

Patience ain't what it once was...

It's not all good with Emery but could have gone way worse under a different manager.

I am happy with Emery's work so far but surely he needs to be given money to built a new Arsenal.

Foundations are here already.

Most people on here won’t remember watching George Allison’s side win the league, it was a fine day, but there wasn’t any of this digital forums back then let me tell you. We named our cat George and planted a tree, it’s probably still there.

I can't believe he's won games more than Wenger did doing a bloody double

Do you know where that number sits vs other PL debut managers Lex? Personally I've thought, all season, he was having the most impressive first season for any foriegn manager. First one I remember not being phased by the xmas games.

Pep, you have to remember that Wenger's first 50 games include season '96/97 - he officially started at the beginning of October. Our first double season under him was '97/98.

Even so, this stat about Emery took me by surprise too. I mean the comparison to Wenger isn't even close.

Afraid not. I'm sure someone must have done one though.

Tbf Wenger had to completely overhaul the mentality at the club when he came. Diet, training, player attitudes etc.

Not saying Emery hasn't done any of that, but the gap between what he had to do and what Wenger had to do is quite large.

Well it's a well known fact that Wenger revolutionised many aspects of our club to propel us to higher standards and that many more clubs copied and followed suit once they caught on.

However, whilst Emery may not have made such drastically obvious changes he did inherit a boatload of problems left behind after the Wenger era and no doubt a modern refresh has been required in several departments/areas of the club too were things had gotten a bit stale and outdated. I believe he has already begun to do a remarkable job repairing some of the damage that became glaringly obvious in Wenger's final few seasons: under Emergy the squad does not seem as mentally fragile and overall they are defending far more solidly as a team - even with key injuries to players like Holding & Bellerin.

Actually he didn't do that over a season. It was a gradual change that included selling players who weren't willing to buy into Wenger's methods.

In my opinion Emery has had worse problems to deal with. Wenger had a settled board of directors and technical director who was producing title winning teams since 1989.

Emery had to to deal with new directors who are still embedding into Arsenal. Two of his bosses have already left including the man who appointed him! And the technical director position is still vacant.
