Life after Bielsa

Point is we don’t know Jonty... say he stays next year in championship and we get promoted. Do you seriously think he’s gona walk at that point and not give the premiership a go?

He could be gone end of this season.

We could have a disastrous start next season in championship and he could be gone in December

We could win promotion next season and he might give it another year

Literally anything can happen and until you don’t know where you are on the pitch - no chance of planning for that.

or like having an alternative ready in case James deal falls through.

yep, totally different thing to what you're saying though, lets shout at one set of goal posts at a time

Succession only works in football for stable clubs that know where they are on a consistent basis..... city, Liverpool, Chelsea, Madrid, Barca, Munich all know they will be there or there-abouts so can plan accordingly. We are a yo-yo club in the championship itself let alone between divisions. Gotta be realistic

agree Afridi - I'm all for forward planning - but some things are just unforeseeable.. we have a life defining month ahead, utter madness to plan what the article is suggesting just yet

Utter madness to plan continuity and stability?

Seriously, what planet are you on?

don't be silly, you know what I'm saying... we don't even know what league we'll be in next year yet -

I just think you're being premature that's all

Actually not convinced Radz will be here in a couple of years time - even less so if we are not in PL.

Indeed Rev, good point...

Rev, he's in 3rd year of his 5 year plan. if we don't go up I think he'll leave before the end of the 5 years.

I'm sure there will be some thoughts on this by those that have to make the decision.

But formalise those thoughts by having conversations with prospective successors, and the news will leak back - and it will hasten a Bielsa departure.

Personally I can't see him staying beyond the end of the season. His very intensive management technique will be difficult to sustain long-term - which probably explains why his management stints are generally short.

What ever league we are in next season we need to prepare for next season as soon as we can and not leave it too the last minute like we usually do

Warwick, why would that happen?

Surely you'd be having the discussion with Bielsa, in fact looking for him to recommend whom he thinks can take the club onto next level after him.

Wasn't the plan to promote/groom Corberan? Or did I just dream that?

I think that's what people here have assumed, but as far as I know, the club have not said that.

posted on 24/4/19

Would the club actually say that or should they? I'm not so sure they need to say anything as long as they have a succession plan in place

If I had Bielsa nailed on for next season, I'd shout about it to the world.

If and when we have the succession planned, I'd announce that, telling the fans that we're building on foundations already laid, trying to preserve the style and model, it allays fears and keep fans from getting restless.

Jonty - Whilst it's likely that Bielsa would have been asked about his plans beyond the end of this season, it's unlikely he would want a public statement on his intentions. He would probably want to wait until the season is finished before deciding what he wanted to do. Bielsa is a man of integrity and great experience, so isn't going to be pressured into publishing plans he later may wish to backtrack on.
I'm not convinced that Bielsa would be the right person to decide the next manager. They tried that at a club over the Pennines recently, and it didn't work out.

It doesn't matter speculating on who the next Manager is going to be.
Unless there is a serious transfer kitty available, the same players will not get us promoted even if we had Pep Guardiola in charge.

Oh wait, there will be at least 25 million available when we sell Phillips and Clarke.

Not sure Phillips is worth £24.5

He'll be gone if we don't go up. As I said elsewhere, we will be seriously asset stripped by PL clubs and clubs going up if we don't get there.

We now have to win the playoffs or we are going to be a medium-sized club for a long-time to come.

amazing isn't it, we all lord up Phillips, who at the start of the season was the worst player in history, and only 4 months ago Clarke was the new Messi..

wow... we are fickle aren;t we

We do tend to think a couple of good performances by one of our youngsters and he will be snapped up by a top six club Prem club and be playing for England within weeks. Young players need to develop and show quality over an extended period. Some of the early season hype about Clarke on here was completely OTT. He may well turn out to be a good player and play in the Prem (hopefully for us) and England but we need to keep our feet on the ground
