The 4 managers nominated for the manager of the season award are Guardiola, Klopp, Pochettino and Nuno

Nuno by a furlong I would have thought

Pep will win it. Nuno is "best of the rest" though.

Even if Nuno finished 4th in the votes it’s a great recognition of his achievement with Wolves

The choice is made partly by a panel of experts and partly from a public vote. If you have an opinion then you can vote at premier league.com. Votes need to be in by 18:00 bst on Thursday May 9th

It's all very well stating that we need to offload some of our 'fringe' players, but we already have the smallest senior squad in the Premiership. If we do that and I think we all agree that we will need a bigger squad if we get into Europe, that means bringing in 5 or 6 new faces. That's not going to be an easy task and sometimes it can have an adverse effect on those already at the club.

Fulham is maybe not the best example, but they brought in too many new faces and it's backfired big time.

Fulham is a terrible example. They brought in 12 new players, 10 of which were chosen by the chairman's son without ant consultation with the manager. Several of those players didn't speak a word of English.

Wolves need to bring in 4-5 new players to strengthen an already successful team at this level. All those players will be players that Nuno wants, will fit into his system that he and can communicate with.
No comparison.

I did say that Fulham wasn't the best example. So what type of players are going to dislodge our current first 11? I agree we need to boost our squad, but any new face needs to better than what we have and that's going to be a very hard task. That's why we should keep our current squad and add just 2 or 3.

I'm sure Nuno will give more game time to our youngsters too.

I think I understand what you're saying Wolfie but there's clearly no point in keeping most of the lads on my list if there's no chance they're ever going to play for the club again.

Anyway, where's the preview gem? Bank holiday is not an excuse if you're retired.

I understand what wolfie is stating. I don't agree with him though.

I think it would be pretty remarkable if we brought in 6 players better than what we have already. My money is on us to win the Premier League if we did. The norm for spending for clubs at the level we are at now at would be about £70m and we may have to spend £40m on Jiminez and Dendoncker just to match what we already have. So signing 6 players better than what we have is unlikely unless we get a few bob in by selling a few, and maybe that could include one or two we might not choose to sell but get big offers for.

I think what we might be sensible to hope for is 2 or 3 signings at up to £20m plus some unknowns of promise in the ilk of Jota, Boly and Jonny if we could only find such gems again. If we could generate £30m from selling players outside our current first 11 it would certainly help

Of course we could take players on loan with an option to buy, as with Jimj and Donk. Therefore we could get up to 6 players, some on loan and some signed straight away.
Simples.

We will bring in 4-6 players that will compete for a first team place and just like every other club we will look to generate extra funds also by shipping out a few that are not cutting it.

I think you missed my point Oldgoldilox. I wouldn't keep any on that list or the others that are out on loan. What I would like is, for us to keep our 19 man senior squad and add 2 or 3 more. We certainly shouldn't be looking to sell our better players, even if ridiculous offers came in. We need to move forward, not start to re-build again.

I have a horrible feeling that DJ actually agrees that we only need 2 or 3 more to boost the squad. Frightening.

I have a horrible feeling that wolfie has yet again failed to understand a post of mine

I think we're all pretty much agreed that moving on the raft of no-hopers and bringing in limited number of quality players is the way to go. Maybe one doesn't need to happen without the other but in practice I think it will.

I'm fairly sure Thelwell and his team will be offloading more players than they recruit this summer.

Big Question

WOULD YOU TAKE 7th NOW NEXT SEASON?

Not Me

posted on 8/5/19

Assuming we are in Europe then yes

posted on 8/5/19

Fair enough Cinci, 7th and Europa Cup Winners will be OK.

So Nuno is up for manager of the season along with Klopp, Guardiola and Pochettino. To be honest I genuinely think Nuno deserves it, but would not give it to Klopp or Guardiola under any circumstances. Very few PL managers would have failed to get Liverpool or Man City into the top two. I suppose Mourinho might have f'd it up.

Comical that pochettino is even mentioned ahead of the Watford manager.

Klopp and Nuno should be battling it out. Guardiola hadn't even managed to match last year's total

posted on 8/5/19

I think the 4 nominations are completely justified. To get over 90 points is a great achievement. Guardiola is a contender for the best manager ever. And for Klopp to push City so hard for the league and get to the CL final as well is pretty special and may well swing it for him. Pochettino has done brilliantly considering how little Spurs have spent. And to finish 7th in our first season, and playing such stylish football has been great by Nuno

I have a horrible feeling that our allowances for wolfie's stupidity are once again falling way below the necessary levels.

I don't know how you can lose 13 games as one of the big six with all that quality at your disposal and be doing 'brilliantly'?

Players out of contract this summer include Mata, Luiz, Sturridge, Girout, Ribery, Robben, Kompany, Balotelli, Herrera,
