Yes, right now we are short on cover both at CB and striker positions, that I agree with. But what I think Boston is stating, is that we need 3-5 'better' players, which begs the same question...who do we leave out.

No it doesn’t. What it means is that when players are injured, suspended or just fatigued we can maintain the same standard with whatever 11 of the 18 or 20 man squad is on the field. This summer is about improving the depth of the squad. The same 11 won’t play every game

My point exactly.

We don't need that toxic sort of player anywhere near our squad.
Anyway he's past it.

Lots of online excitement from a message on one of the more reliable rumour sites last night that mentioned no names but just said ‘Wolves are about to do a madness’

Two players arriving for medicals today.

Also, Fosun are buying Patshull Park on the outskirts of Pattingham.

Where's my putter?

Christ it really is going to be Balotelli and Costa with Barton replacing Nuno with Muscat as his assistant.

Those who don’t like Wolves strip this season should take a look at the dreadful new one of Huddersfield. Big Paddy Power sash right across the front. And the away strip is even worse

There's speculation that it's a Paddy Power wind-up/ prank...

By implying that we need 3-5 'better' players than what we have now, means that in theory they should replace 3-5 of our current starting 11. If you'd stated that we need 3-5 similar players that would compliment the current squad, that makes sense, although I don't see that many senior players coming in during this window.

I'm fully aware that the same 11 will not start every game and that's the typical risible comment I'd expect from you.

We do need a bigger squad for the forthcoming season and I'm sure we'll get another CB and striker before the window closes. As to whether they will be better than what we have, remains to be seen.

3-5 better players to me means better players than those we are shifting on, therefore strengthening the squad.

That's not what he stated cinci. We all agree that we need to increase our squad, because of the extra games this season, but to suggest 3-5 better players, will take a lot of doing.

Nuno, I'm sure will get 2 or 3 more players in, but whether they're better than what we have, remains to be seen. I'm sure he'll rely on a few of our youngsters stepping up too. So I fully expect a senior squad of about 20, supplemented by U23 players.

Well I guess if we don't add like we hope then we won't be progressing. Could be a disappointing season ahead for some.

Man Utd in sixth were awful last season still had nine points on us, I think some are seriously over rating what we have done so far, we need to spend plenty to rival the top six.

posted on 17/7/19

Why can't we progress with the squad we have now, with maybe a couple of additions. We also have to comply with the FFP rules, so spending plenty isn't really an option. I believe the permanent transfers we made at the end of last season also goes into this seasons financial budget.

posted on 17/7/19

It's no good bringing in players that may or may not be better than we have shipped out. We need at least equal, preferably better than the first team squad, if we are to move forward. Competition is the name of the game and we cannot be complacent in thinking we can tick over for a couple of seasons with the same squad. No one player should think that he will automatically keep his place.
Good win today

COYW.

Not gonna lie Wolfie but i honestly don't really understand the point you have been trying to make the last few days.

You seem to be suggesting you will be happy if we do as little as possible despite having what should be a hell of a lot of extra games this season, relying on completely untested youth players to pick up the slack?!?!

posted on 17/7/19

Totally agree Boston. What a strange policy it would be to say our first team is good so let’s not try and improve it, let’s instead aim to get players in that aren’t as good. That way if a first team player is injured then we will not look as good a team without him.

Vinagre is the best example of what we need. It wouldn’t be easy for him to be chosen ahead of Jonny or Doherty but if either of those missed a couple of games then he may well make himself undroppable in their absence. That’s the strength in depth we ideally need all over the pitch.

Man City set the standard. If you asked 20 of their fans to name their best 11 you would probably get about 15 different answers because they have so many good players. At the moment at Wolves virtually everyone would name the same 11

----------------------------------------------------------------------

To be fair we agree on a fair few things except for when he is wrong.

posted on 17/7/19

I agree with DJ with regard to Vinagre but two other players have arrived and made themselves undropable.
Rui Patricio arrived and immediately replaced Ruddy who is an excellent keeper and is now working his socks off to be number 1 again. Dendoncker filled a gap in a revised formation and has made the position his own. These are the type of players we need, players with something a little bit special. Always upgrading is the only way we will ever progress.

posted on 17/7/19

Yes Dendoncker is a good example of the benefit of bringing in new quality players. We had the likes of Costa, Cavaleiro, Saiss flitting in and out of the team but from pretty much his first game you sensed he would make the position his own. And I suspect he will become even better this season with more experience behind him

posted on 17/7/19

Cinci, I've never stated that we don't need more players. Of course we do. We need cover at CB and striker positions, but even DJ is now stating what I have previously suggested and that is to bring in quality players, not necessarily better ones. it will very difficult find a better pairing than Jimenez and Jota, Difficult to get better than our 5 midfield players. Who's better in goal than Patricio and we have a solid back 3.

So unless we're going to break the bank, I say let's give the current squad the chance to get better themselves and remember, most of that squad last year had never played in the Premiership before. They've all got a great season under their belts and I see no reason to bring in too many during this window. Quality not quantity is paramount.

Remember too that Nuno wants to keep a smallish squad but understands that additions are necessary. He'll get the job done, don't worry.

You asked "why can't we progress with the squad we have now".

So you have stated that we maybe don't need more players.
