Poor refereeing for the penalty

It works better the way the referee done it.

There’s is no natural stop in play to consult the lineman and make a decision unless you blow the whistle.

He wasn’t insighted??
He saw the incident once from his angle and he gave a decision of penalty kick. Linesman will have asked to speak to the referee because he had doubt on the decision. (Players were pointing so assume he had his flag raised)

I wonder how many replays and angles you watched before coming up with your reasons. Some pundits needed 10 looks and were still undecided.

The referee unit yesterday were absolutely superb. A credit to the game.

Allowed advantage for Leeds when there was a free kick in the build up to the goal.
All key decisions correct.
The game flowed.
Sensible and well rationed decisions to keep it at 11-a-side .

I suggest you buy a whistle and go referee a game or two and when you have made so many errors and lost control of the middle you will see things differently

Luckily the linesman spotted the error otherwise it would have been a different outcome. Another example how video evidence at the pitch side could be crucial. If it had caused unrest or arguments they could have lasted for minutes, for the ref to go to a screen could take less than a minute, (even stoppage for most injuries last longer).. And on this occasion it would have clearly shown the foul on the Leeds player first.

Referee was wrong to give the penalty as he was unsighted and could not have been 100% sure. The AR bailed him out.

Other than that the only other points of contention were
a) the Derby player's two footed lunge - that should have been at least a yellow card. Remember Cooper got a yellow for lesser challenge on Grealish - all the commentators said that getting the ball was irrelevant. I know the Derby player did not catch the Leeds player but intent was there.

b) Klich's headbutt - but perhaps hitting someone in the midriff is okay - after all, the FA have confirmed that when not charging the Villa player for punching Klich!

Whilst I understand the initial point about why he gave it in the first place, Ultimately everyone makes mistakes. Mature and bold from the ref to consult his assistance who was getting his attention.

Ultimately the question to ask is did they get the decision right as a team. They did. As kebab says, they got pretty much everything right to be fair... and the ref let a fair amount go to keep the game flowing, then brought in the yellows when the cynical stuff started in the second half.

When you consider the refs we had this season seems strange to pick up on this one.

I was thinking the same at the time...klich must be thinking i’ll Butt him in the stomach as it’s non-violent.

The huddlestone forearm on Dallas was the other potential talking point

Thought he reffed a very good game, not cos 1 of the main decisions went our way either. Take that out of the game & he did a great job. Both teams could have had red cards, Direby maybe 2?

Linesman is a Leeds fan. But to be fair he was right with his views.

Two definite reds - the two footed challenge. He’s out of control once he is in the air. Totally different to Coopers the other week.

The forearm smash into Dallas - red all day.

Klich? Silly boy but hardly a headbut. I was surprised he stayed on though with it being us. I expected the lad to have to walk.

Keogh quite lucky he missed with his attempt to punch someone as the ref walked across to consult the linesman. A little bit of air boxing there

The ref had about 8 players blocking his view and saw a pen, yet missed Keogh swinging at Cooper right in front of him, the lino had the best view and was rightfully consulted. Frank said the ref had a far better view than the lino

This same referee sent off Heung Min Son for a shove last week and let off a player yesterday for a head butt. Consistent and competent he is not.

I Didn’t think the Son one deserved a red last week. However the ref didn’t see the klich incident yesterday, the linesman gave it. Not sure if it was a head butt... not sure what it was really, just bizarre behaviour from klich but stupid. To be fair to him, he’s seen a Leeds player get headbutted on camera this season, with no action taken. He was punched in the stomach on camera against villa with no action taken. Can’t blame him for not being sure what’s acceptable tomfoolery v violent conduct in the English game.

Huddlestones forearm on Dallas yesterday was more dangerous and sneaky.

Ref had a ‘mare that game so I was quite apprehensive about him doing the game yesterday. Had a great game other than;
1) signaling for the PK before consulting his AR, and
2) the Huddlestone wrestling move.

Regarding the two footed Direby challenge - he has come in from the side well ahead of the Leeds player and gotten the ball. Never a danger to the Leeds player and thus a perfectly executed tackle. Now if he is a second or two later, he may be walking as his tackle is going to meet the standards for a foul with excessive force. In my opinion, of course.
