Sack Ole

Theres an obvious be element of the back to the future so to speak about oles appointment. Coupled with the return of phelan maybe the strategy is to rediscover some of what was lost in the years since fergie left. I think oles remit for now maybe just about getting the wrong players out, the right players in, blooding youngsters and gettimg the club heading in the right direction with a style of play we can all embrace.

Lots of maybes I know but you would have to think there is more thought to the appointment than everyone getting caught up in the whole ole at the wheel, PSG result etc

League titles where?

Might as well give Roy Hodgson the job then.. actually go on!

Put it like this.. if you took away the club, and asked a player who they would like to play for,

Pep, Klopp, Poch or Solskjaer..
I would predict 0% for Solskjaer.
-------------------------------

Not really sure what point you are trying to make now. You are all over the place after making a fool of yourself.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Just so as to place my thoughts here, on record and concisely.

Man Utd is a huge club, far too big a club to make the latest managerial appointment based on nothing but nostalgia.. that is what it is.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is not capable of running the club as someone like Mourinho did, he just hasn't got the experience and expertise, nor the contacts to have a coaching team he trusts.
He is not a top coach/manager and I doubt he ever will be.

Giving him time is folly, really, it's a hope for the best kind of situation. There's nothing to suggest he will succeed at Man Utd, nothing tangible, just that he used to play for the club.

If he doesn't get his targets (because they don't see Solskjaer as the man they want to play for) what then? Give him more time and more transfer windows?

All the while clubs with the right men at the helm, City, Liverpool, Spurs even Wolves, will be making further progress.

If Ole only starts to click and find his feet in two years time, that's mid table right there. Way way behind. He just hasn't got the draw like the top managers in the game do.

Man United as a club, a massive club, deserve way way better.

What are Ancelotti, Allegri, Deschamps doing these days?
---------------------

1. We don't want him to run the club like Jose did. He is one of the reasons that we are in this mess.
2. The fact that he has won titles suggests that he might have the transferable skills to be a success.
3. Even if he doesn't win titles, building a squad with the right profile of players for the next manager could be deemed as success, taking into consideration the mess we are in right now.
4. How does he not have a coaching team he trusts? He has told Phelan that he doesn't want him to be DoF as he wants him as his assistant. He has also got Carrick in there. You have just completely made this up in some futile attempt to add validity to what is basically just a load of waffle.
5. It is impossible to say whether a manager is capable of managing a top club until he has been given the chance. He might fail, he might succeed. There are no guarantees - just as there weren't with Moyes, LVG or Jose. All of whom had more experience than Ole but failed.

It’s a mental train of thought to give a job to a relative novice because a couple of experienced heads failed

You just keep on trusting that the experienced ones will get it right. Has anyone on here ever run a business with the alternative mentality ?

His work with Molde, the esteem he is held in there, his first dozen games with us, his words and ideas. Not a lot, about the same as Klopp when Mainz got relegated. Every one is a novice at some point.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

But Klopp did amazing work at Dortmund before getting the Liverpool job. It feels like Ole has missed out on some middle ground before getting the United role - seems a bit of an overpromotion
-------------------------

What about Pep? Should he too have managed at some lower level teams? Not every manager's path is going to be the same, just as not every player's path will be the same.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Pep was at Barca B.. in effect a lower league club where some of the star players to be were groomed by him.

You knew that, right?
-----------------------

Of course I knew that. Who doesn't? But if managing for one season in the third tier of the Spanish league is enough for Pep to become Barca manager, Ole has done more than enough having been in coaching/management since 2008.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
If someone has been managing for 10 years, shouldnt there be signs he's a top manager by now? Or at least a good manager. He won a title with Molde ffs. I didnt even know he was a manager. Surely you want someone managing United who has proven to be a good manager in the span of 10 years. He relegated Cardiff, Molde is his level.
----------------------------------------------

Klopp managed for 10 years before he won anything. Ole has actually only managed for 8 years at a first team club and won the Norwegian league twice and also the cup once. If we are going back to his time at United, he has also won Premier Reserve League, Premier Reserve League North, Lancashire Senior Cup & Manchester Senior Cup. Although I wouldn't really give them too much weight.

I would also note that Molde had never won the title in their 100 year existence.

Why would the fact that you didn't know Ole was a manager matter at all? You footballing knowledge has no baring on whether he is a capable manager or not. I am somewhat surprised that you didn't know that he was a manager to be fair. Aside from his time at Cardiff, he was in the press quite heavily when Aston Villa when they offered him the job.

He took over at Cardiff in January when they were already in real trouble. It was a stupid move to be with that owner in charge, who was rumoured to be meddling in team selections with the previous manager. I certainly won't judge his management ability on a short spell at a club that were already battling relegation under a crackpot manager like that.

Nobody has said that we should give Ole the job/let him stay because more experienced managers have failed. I am just pointing out that there is no guarantee that an experienced manager will work.

Likewise you can get relative novices come in and do a great job. There are plenty of examples.

Indeed, but that can also happen in other industries. I doubt there are many outside of sport where my original comment is true, there’s just a lot more competition in other industries.

It’s hardly surprising, there’s only a small pool of managers for clubs to choose from. It’s why they keep getting good jobs. And people still act surprised by this. Of course they facking will.

I would not give them trophies any weight whatsoever really. They are not major trophies by any stretch of the imagination and should not even be considered trophies when talking about OGS at Man United because they are never going to be competing at that level.

Also, fair enough he did a good job with Molde, but look at the standard of the league. It's poor. The best teams in Norway are absolutely nowhere near the same level as to what it is in the Premier League. It's a completely different league where the focus is based on bringing players through the youth academy and competing to win the league. You could finish 6th in the Norwegian PL and then potentially win the league the next season because the difference in quality between the team that wins the Norwegian league and the team that finishes 6th will not be anywhere near as huge as City and United this season.

Imo, there should be absolutely no comparison between what OGS has done in Norway and what he could do in England because the leagues are so much different.

Totally.. i think the crux is some man u fans dont want another manager sacked less so a club legend because of how the club would look.

In my view if a top coach with the right credentials came available, Solskjaer should be replaced immediately. If there is a better man for the job you would be doing the club a massive disservice by not going for him.

So this thread is still limping on, 24 hours later. Perpetuated by a small group of people who believe that someone doesn't have ability if they haven't already demonstrated it at certain level. And there's no way a club with the resources to pay for the best expertise and consultants could identify a talented individual who hasn't applied his ability at the top level yet. Like Dortmund picking out Klopp after he got relegated at Mainz and failed to get promoted the following season. That's different because Klopp is obviously a great manager, unlike Solskjaer, who is rubbish because he has only been successful at youth level (like Guardiola before his Barcelona appointment) and in Norway (like the Vikings).

You can think as much or as little as you want. You still won't have a clue.

The crux of it is that most United fans think that Ole should be given a chance to prove that he has what it takes to manage at the top before he is sacked. It really isn't that difficult to comprehend. Even for a wumtard like yourself.

It's pointless having a discussion with you redinthehead. You seem completely incapable of understanding that we want Ole to be given a chance.
You can point to Cardiff and Huddersfield, I can point to PSG, Cardiff away and others. It's all meaningless, he hasn't signed a player yet, the team was not fit enough, he had to try different formations and tactics, give everyone a chance. If you cannot see that you are a wum or a bit dense. Sorry to be insulting, but it's not complicated.
