I would really like to know why the club do not value or prioritize a DoF who specializes in mediating between player recruitment and transfers with club and manager.

Is it that they do not fully trust this kind of director with their transfer budget because he isn’t the same mound as a renowned managerial name? (prior to Ole)

Is it because they are trying to maintain the traditions of this club irrespective of poor transfer results?

Is it because they simply believe that there isn’t anyone deemed the right man for the club yet?

Or is it because they don’t want to be outshined by the professionalism and expertise of an actual member of the background club staff who can actually do his job, do it well and take the limelight of the hierarchy?

Yeah, you really love Ole with the respect you’ve shown for him on here the last few weeks.

I respect him as a footballer and a person. Would you prefer if I lie about how I feel of him as a manager?

https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/11719299/darren-fletcher-is-a-leading-candidate-for-the-manchester-united-technical-director-job

look what's breaking on Sky, it's not even Fletcher's name that's the depressing part either. It's what the 'technical director' position is supposed to be. I hate this club man.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It’s almost like the club are wumming us now.

I love Ole and Fletch. But are they the best options out there? Nope. Would anyone else hire them for positions at other big clubs? Nope.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

What top level manager would want to come and manage United right at this present time?

We are a mess, and there is much to do, that it will take some effort for any competitive progress to be noticed.

Right now we need stability, and that is from the pitch side alone. What we need in positional changes, we won’t get in one go. Transitioning between different phases of deadwood exits and better players arriving will be our most crucial and telling period. Because while we won’t win the league anytime soon, we need to make sure that we don’t slip down any further.

No you don’t, at least be honest about it. If you respected him you wouldn’t have made this knee jerk article straight away after the game. You prefer to respect narcissists like Mourinho who purposely ruined our entire season because he didn’t get the player he wanted.

Would you prefer him be sacked next season after the fans have turned against him for being what he is - an incredibly underwhelming appointment?

It’s the footballing equivalent of ‘I’m not racist, but...’.

I’d prefer to give him a pre season and the summer window to see what he’s made of.

Anyway, if this stuff about the technical director is true, it once again shows exactly where the problems are at the club. Quite clearly Ed does not want to relinquish the power he has over recruitment.

Agreed

He brings in the patsys like Fletch or Rio to look like the club is giving the past a say in its future in roles which I doubt have much power at all while Ed keeps control and gets to make the decisions the fans wish an actual qualified DoF would make

posted on 13/5/19

Yeah it doesn’t make for good reading if true. I suspect it’s role to act more as a go between and an advisory role, that way it doesn’t really impact Ed’s role and commercial strategy.

An excerpt from The Express Monday 11 May 2019.

'Manchester United boss Solskjaer will have Phelan as his assistant again next season after the Red Devils hero signed a three-year contract.

The club announced that Phelan would be staying on as No 2 on Friday, with the 56-year-old saying: “"Manchester United has been a huge part of my life since I joined as a player in 1989.

“And I am delighted to be able to continue that relationship in this key role.”

Phelan had previously been in talks with Woodward over becoming United’s first-ever technical director.

Man Utd boss Solskjaer has FOUR targets as Real Madrid pursue Pogba
The Red Devils are primed for a revamp behind the scenes as they plot a way back to the Premier League summit.

Woodward will have the final say over who comes in, with the United supremo holding all the aces.

Yet the Manchester Evening News say that, while Phelan coveted the role as director, Solskjaer had other ideas.

The 46-year-old wanted his trusted deputy to stay alongside him, rather than move upstairs.

And that consequently stopped Woodward from going for Phelan.

It is understood the United chief has talked with Rio Ferdinand and Darren Fletcher about Old Trafford returns.'

Sounds like a bit of ill thought out planning there by Ed. No surprise.

This is coinciding with his persistence to have the majority of influence over transfers.

Of course this is interlinked with him playing FIFA manager and connecting us with said global branded players to bring in more revenues.

Yet he still doesn't accept that he is the major problem.

Why would he? There’s no pressure for the owners to make him culpable. Which is why they are such bad owners, and ultimately the architects of the club’s downfall.

Anyway, let's not bash Robb on this thread. I've done enough of that on his one.

Like you, I'm looking forward to the new season. Have concerns but Ole has my support.

I know he wouldn't admit that. He's built up a big momentum ego trip nowadays. Because the Glazers have put all their faith him. They hold the key to relieving him off football related duties, but they don't want to upset the applecart.

And why would they?

In their camp, they are all are content with the way things are because it's working for THEM and not us - the club, the players, the coaching staff and the fans.

posted on 13/5/19

I agree, Prem. And sadly why we’ll be continually hamstrung under their ownership.

I've never known any situation where an owner takes a big football club after initial successes and then becomes not so bothered about remaining competitive at the very top.

Mind is staggered.

They did similar with American Football team I think.

There is so much money in the game you don’t need to be successful to make the owners a tonne of cash.

No one's disputing that Rob, but if you had the chance to make even more money, then i'm sure most (probably not you) would do so.

The funny thing is that they could make even more money if the footballing side was successful. Revenue and profits would be higher.

They're not stupid enough (I hope! ) to not realise this too. I actually think that they realise that it's just too much hard work to get back to the top, and thus they are now content with making a decent return.

posted on 13/5/19

It’s such an inexact science though. Coming say, 4th place doesn’t get you that much less money than coming first. And if you can spend less than City but still make a tonne of money it doesn’t make sense to try and take on a behemoth on the pitch when you can do things the way the Glazers are doing and still milk the club dry

Just playing devils advocate and if I owned the club I’d do everything I could do get success in return for my investment but the way the Glazers work seems to pay off for them so what can we do?
