Sorry but play offs should never have even been in the equation. We had auto in our hands for most of the season then bottled it.

Stop crying

Nah, we were 2 up on aggregate after 44 minutes before pressing the Leeds button. Only got our owners, manager and defensive players to blame. No blame attached to the players as they've ran through walls this season. Couldn't have given any more than they did.

Owners messed up in summer and January. Manager messed up in January also.

Playoffs are playoffs. Not invented mid season. We had every chance to avoid it, but blew up at the wrong time.

Always hated the play offs not just for us but for every team over the, is it 30 odd years? who has to endure them, they are wrong.

We lost fair & square, no bleating from me

I said we needed at least 86 pts & we did not get them.

VOF......totally agree

It's only an injustice when your team goes out via them it seems. You have known the drill for 15 years ffs.

Utter garbage

Play off are right. Half the division would have had nothing to play for after jan.

Everyone knew the situation.

posted on 16/5/19

Sorry, just because everyone knew the situation beforehand doesn't make it right.

They're not there to keep people interested in the second half of the season, they are there to earn money.

They have no link to sporting endeavour and everything to do with earning more money.

I read the following on a website last night:

"Well done Derby, fully deserved! Leeds didn't deserve it, they simply were good enough over the season."

And yet we got 9 points more than Derby. Is there anybody who doesn't believe that there's something wrong there?

Yes, we all knew the rules beforehand.

Yes, we had it in our hands and shouldn't have had to worry about the play-offs.

But that doesn't make them right,

posted on 16/5/19

It makes it exactly right

It was be rubbish. People would lose interest after jan.

The play off are a great idea.

So next season if leeds finish 6th and win the play offs and promotion you wouldn't be happy?

posted on 16/5/19

Of course they are. Anyone saying otherwise are just bitter.

posted on 16/5/19

No, I don't believe it does make it right.

The team in third being promoted for their work over the season would be right.

The team earning 9 or 7 points less than the third team being promoted because of two games isn't right, on a sporting level.

Knowledge of the rules doesn't mean the rules are right.

But fine that you should disagree.

RadebeTed hit the nail on the head there. I find many of the replies here utter garbage apart from Radebe's which makes sense. Just think if you were a player for Leeds how you would feel, all of these guys would agree with me. Most of the answers here are cliche.

Polloks, Your Honour

You misunderstand. If we'd have got through having finished sixth I'd have been delighted. Of course, I would.

But it wouldn't have made me think the play-offs are any fairer.

They're not.

You could argue only top deserve to go up if your taking that line.

It’s is absolutely vital that there are play offs.

You need something to play for. The past ten years, our season would have been over at Christmas. You imagine going to last 13 home games with nothing riding on it. It would kill it.

Utter madness

This, It's really not that difficult to understand.

LIW you're being silly. Long ago there were no playoffs, it is just a money making racket.

posted on 16/5/19

Yes and the season ended for too many clubs early op

Have you got a season ticket pal ???

I have pal, and if nearly every season the season ended by december, I’d stop going.

The play off are great for fans

And you say it’s a money thing.

Do you work for free ???

posted on 16/5/19

With most agreeing on playoffs in this thread, why not have a playoff for the top 8 then, so if you finish 1st with say 94 pts you could lose out against the 8th place which has 70 pts, great justice isn't it ? ! ! !

being scottish i very rarely watch any championhip football other than the play off final and im sure there are plenty of others in britain and elsewhere who are the same

they are probally a big part of the tv deal and the money the clubs get each season

posted on 16/5/19

LIW you're losing the plot, cause we lost out on promotion and I can't blame you, and that is because of the stupid playoffs you see.

posted on 16/5/19

If three go up, it should the top three.

If one goes up, it should the top team.

Would you support Liverpool and Man City having a play-off match to decide the league?

Or Man Utd and Wolves having a play-off for the last European place?

Surely the league position has to be based on your performance over the season. And the team in third (whoever that may be) has performed better than the teams below.

I've no gripe about the rules for last night, they are what they are. And we got beat fair and square. We've had plenty of chances throughout the season and failed to take them, so no sour grapes from me.

But please don't try to convince me that the play-offs are fair. They're not.

Exciting to watch, money-earning for the clubs, thrilling for the neutral fan and great at keeping up interest in the season they may be. I don't dispute it LIW.

But that doesn't make them fair.

posted on 16/5/19

No what your wanting is to end half the league season at Christmas.

Obviously don’t have a season ticket and understand why it’s so vital for clubs to have something to play for.

It would be diasterous for football, people would lose interest and stop going.

we have just recently brought play offs into the scottish leagues but they are different. in the scottish championship 4th will play 3rd in a play off quater final with the winner playing the team who was 2nd in the semi final and then the winner playing the second bottom of the spl in a play off final for promotion/relegation

you could have something similar in england with 2 down and 2 up automatically then 3rd and 4th in the championship have a play offs to see who plays 3rd bottom of the pl in a play off final

that would probally be fairer but it's not going to happen anytime soon
