Rashford and Lingard in England squad

Redmond but no Maddison.

Lingard has played well for Southgate and seems to suit England's system. He had a poor season overall, but players don't tend to shine when their teams are playing very badly. He did shine as one of the better players during the Ole bounce and until his injury. It doesn't seem nonsensical to me that Southgate would pick him.

As for Shaw, I think it says more about the strength of the competition at left back than about our current plight. As with Lingard, it also reflects the fact that Southgate seems to be quite loyal to players who have done well for him, rather than chasing whoever is in form.

That's a tough one. Personally I prefer Maddison. However I doubt either would get much field time anyway.

Chillwell and Rose deservingley ahead of Shaw though, and we don't need 3 left backs in the squad.

Trippier being in the side is another thing all together though, been awful all season.

Wan Bisakka and TAA should be the RB picks, especially as you've got Walker in the squad as well who Southgate sometimes plays as LCB.

I'm not in disagreement with you. Just highlights how how behind we are. He's supposedly been our best player this season and he's not even in the squad.

And let be honest those two that are ahead of him are better but neither of them are world beaters either.

They're not, and I'd trade either of them for Shaw.

We're beyond poor in both full back areas and have been since Nev, Brown and Evra.

Is Redmond just in the squad because Loftus Cheek got injured? Has Redmond even been good this season? Where's Maddisson?

Lingard is one of Southgate’s favourites. He suits the system.

Is it a case of rewarding players that have done well for him before freshening it up for the qualifiers?

Delph, Dier, Redmond and Lingard should be the 4 binned when the squad is cut. All of them have been anonymous for large parts of the season.

There must be a better CB than Keane as well

I think we need new LB n RB. Shaw is decent enough defensively but we need to start offering more in attack down the flanks.

A sitting midfielder might free them up.

United don't have a natural, well Matic but he's finished.

Nah it won't. They aren't good enough. They need replacing just as much as DM.

It's not just being free'd up, Shaw has the ball in good attacking positions plenty (he gets into good positions, and overlaps well) but time after time hits the first man or sends a poor ball in.

He's improved on it in fairness but it's still way behind what we need.

Shaw is the only one of our English players who would have a legit claim to be in the England Squad.

I wouldn't trade Smalling for Michael Keane tbf.

Rashford does well for England too, and we aren't stocked in the CF area after Kane and Wilson.

Chilwell would be a great signing.

Unsure why i see Tuanzebe in many potential sides next season. He can't even get in the villa side.

posted on 16/5/19

Hasn't Tuanzebe just played in Villas biggest 2 games of the season?

I thought the only times he's not been played is if he's been injured.

Yes and no. I think he just has favourites. Look at Dele alli, he’s been shiiiiiiit under Southgate but regularly plays.

But I get you don’t want to keep making loads of changes to the squad when trying to develop a team, especially one that has done well recently.

posted on 16/5/19

id rather have a LB who could actually do the job he is employed to do foremost and thats defend.
yeah the game has changed and fullbacks are expected to offer more going forward, but the main objective is to be solid defensively.

Dalot is decent going forward, but i wonder how many times you'll complain when he is caught out defensively and costs us a goal, because defensively he isnt that great.

if we actually had wide players who pulled their fingers out of their a55ess and contributed something the reliance on the full backs would be nowhere near as big.

look at city, they have Zevchenko and kyle walker... neither great going forward but offer support... the difference being they have sane, sterling and Bernado silva in front of them.

Redmond is a good player, what Lingard should be.

There used to be a time when you had 2 or 3 regular England starters on your bench, or not even in the match day squad.

Not anymore though.

I love watching Chilwell, he's only getting better too and he's rather handsome.

he has played quite a few times, but to be fair villa ship goals left right and center
