It shows that no matter what we achieve, we will not get given the credit. Always a ‘but’

Which is exactly what happened when Leicester won it. It was a fluke. It was undeserved. It only happened because everyone had an off season. We won it playing terrible football. Etc etc.

It was a fluke that was also deserved.

I’m pretty sure most spurs fans agree it wasn’t a fluke. A one off but not a fluke and not undeserved. I’ve always said it wasn’t a fluke, so has Ace, GeniusGreaves etc

You’re just focusing on the few that say it was a fluke

The motive behind the article was to say that I think Pochettinos achievement is up there with Leicester’s if he wins the CL with the squad he has. A squad with some very good players but one that has no depth to it at all. It’s a one off - helped by circumstances such as the top european sides not being at their best - but it was the same for us when we won the PL. I think it will be a Brian Clough moment

Not sure what Real, Juve, Barcelona, and Bayern rebuilding has to do with us having no better time than the present to win a CL. You make it sound like we've had an easy run to get to the final. City, Ajax and Liverpool are as big a test as a team could have.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think what he means is you caught those big 3 at a lucky time, where they needed to rebuild, because otherwise neither pool or spurs would be near the final.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't really get that point. We, Spurs, in winning the CL, if we do, will have faced and beaten City and Liverpool when they've been really strong, and as strong as Bayern, Real, Juve and Barcelona teams in recent times, apart from possibly Barcelona under Pep, and the other season they won the treble.

Not sure there is a lucky time here.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Normally there are 3 or 4 absolutely top sides in Europe you have to overcome to win the CL. This season there’s two - City and Liverpool. Like i said, it’s good timing. If you don’t do it now you might not get the chance to again when the likes of Real, Munich and probably Barcelona become Europe’s top clubs again
----------------------------------------------------------------------
There were 3 or 4 this season too. Barcelona and PSG were considered top sides in the competition alongside City and Liverpool. Juventus too. I guess the only reason you're not counting them is because they suffered unexpected losses?

Thankfully, you don't have to play every single top side in order to reach a final, and it's unlikely that they'll all be unbeatable against the sides like ours, who are very good sides, but not quite the best sides in their leagues. If they were then City and PSG would have won or reached CL finals by now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Oh come on. This is the worst Barcelona side for 15 years or so. They’re absolute toss in comparison to the sides under Pep and Luis Enrique. Juve are a side with a back 4 that needed replacing 2 years ago. PSG have a couple of world class players - but that’s a mentally brittle team. They’ve capitulated yet again this season - they’re not ready to challenge.

I’d say City and Liverpool are the outstanding sides in the competition. It’s been the poorest quality CL for some time IMO.

It would probably have to be yes. Can’t see you doing it otherwise with the squad you have. It’s paper thin

You can’t honestly believe that. This is as good as it’s going to get. If you win it, poch moves on. Levy won’t change his transfer policy and the team slowly but surely breaks up. Nothing ever lasts forever and you don’t have the spending power to keep on competing with the very best

Maybe you right about the level of quality football played. But then that was cancelled out by the high drama.

So 2017?

But you previously berated Juve for having an ageing defence, yet they reached the final that year. That’s also before they signed Ronaldo

Atletico also reached the semis. They are a very tough proposition but not in the elite I’d say.

Monaco also reached the last four that year, knocking out city along the way. The equivalent run this year was Ajax, yet apparently they aren’t very good.

It seems you could choose any year and argue one way or other that it isn’t as high quality

Well juves defence were 2 years younger back then. It’s an aging defence right now which requires a rebuild. Back then it was still functioning brilliantly. Not so much now.

You also had a much better Real Madrid with Ronaldo, a better Barca than now, even if they didn’t do as well in the CL and Atleti were coming out of a period when they had been finalists twice. They were better in 2017. I think the quality was higher then now absolutely. This year has been waaank by CL standards
